accelerator sticking

Post by froggy »

Hi, my Xantia's throttle sticks.... sometimes! I have checked ,and it's not catching on anything. If I remember rightly, could it be the damper? is it repairable or maybe needs replacing? any thoughts anyone. cheers Terry .

Remove the dampner arm on he front of the fuel pump anyway.
The cable can fray inside the spring plunger cylinder thing if you have one by the air filter box.
New cable kit is approx £36 if memory serves.
Alternatively the inner cable can be replaced with a bicycle gear cable with a small blob on the end.
If you gently prise out the plastic clip from the pedal by squeezing the gangs you will see how small the blob needs to be.
Pull the cable out via the foot well, gently remove the cable from the plastic clip and press in the new cable then feed it through the hole and in the old sheath.
Get someone to floor the pedal, rotated the throttle arm on the pump fully and tighten the cable at that end.

First thought is the cable is fraying internally. This can happen anywhere along its length although usually its more likely at the pump end.

The damper piston on the pump, that is unlikely to be the cause, some used to throw them away without any ill effect. If you think its that you could remove it temporarily to see but my initial thought is the cable.

EDIT... Did not see Xac's reply. :)
