I would concur. I think the 8 valve 110 engine is fine with a good balance of performance and economy, I also have a 2.2 which performs very well but is dreadful on fuel - give me the 8 valve any time. I dont think the 2.0. 16 valve engine was introduced until later, that has more power and I think the fuel consumption is also good, but it has a DPF and is a pig to work on.

Stu, I think you must have had a friday afternoon engine in your car as I agree with peter that the 110 hdi really is a perfect compromise (certainly for ten years ago when it was released).
In a car as heavy as the c5 it is never going to handle and perform like a hot hatch but I certainly couldnt complain about mine. In terms of citroen introducing the 16v engines as it realised the 8v 110 hdi to be underpowered, im not sure thats the case.
Way back in 2000ish which was when the 110 hdi started 100-120 bhp was the standard output of all the marques diesel saloon engines whereas now it is generally around 150bhp.
The decision to up the power probably came more from the marketing dept than the engineering dept. Im open to debate but im sure the engine with the best mix of power and reliability must be the 110hdi, with the most notable exception from this setup the dpf.
Maybe get another car and try again you might be surprised, sam

411514.....I dont expect to handle like that but I'd like it to be more taughter/stiffer and less soft, like many other est's I've had, but yes I know that's the way it's designed....if the likes of Volvo, Merc, BM ect ect can do it, so can/could Citroen

Peter....I beg to differ, but that's my opinion

Oneday...I'd love to but being in South Glasgow could be a problem.....unless I had a day out

I think basically a C5 is not what you want stu, the reason most people buy hydropnumatic citroens is because they prefer comfort to speed, I have been running them for 25 years for this very reason. Most cars made today have a hard ride and taught handling so you have plenty of choice, comfortable cars are few and far between and the Citroens are among the best.

I'm not a fast driver Peter, never really have been, I have my "moments" sometimes but that's about it - the reason I meantioned Volvo ect is simply because, they have comfort too as well as very good rd holding (for what they are) esp the T5's (yes I had one...bloody great cars).

I think my problem is - I'm very indecisive and just enjoyed driving for many years, as I get bored quick and either sell or swap whatever I had  ....I wish I wasnt like that and could just enjoy something for what it is. Dont get me wrong, I like the C5 but I would like more grunt, not tons or tyres ripping torque lol, just enough to pull away without lagg - it's not too bad (not great) about 2-2 1/2 grand, but below that it's a slow as a week in jail so to speak - hence if I was to try to keep/run it, a remap would hopefully be in order.

I know the C5's a good car, you can tell that when you get in - but still not in the same league as Volvo, BM ect, but then being German, Swedish - well nuff said

PS - yes I had a fault P1112 (high pressure leak - number 4 injector), I also blanked the egr, it's made some diffirence but not alot

I have a 2.2 C5 going cheap if you are interested. My other car is a 406 estate, that does handle well but the suspension is harder than am used to, I must admit though it is more pleasant to drive than the C5 and the seats are good, it gives you a great feeling of confidence and goes exactly where you point it. That has the same 2.0.Hdi engine of the C5 and I can easily get 60+ mpg driving gently, a really nice car, but for long journeys I still prefer the comfort of the C5.

Yea because it's a guzzler compared to what you're used to

Y'see that's why I kinda prefer the 306 2.0hdi est too....you're more in more touch with the rd, it's like a mini 406 (my mate's got one)

PS - nearly forgot.....it's the most horrible front on a car I've saw in ages, who ever in Cit designed it should have been sacked.....as for the rest...it's fine
