New unit fitted, used a Delphi system to calibrate the steering angle sensor.

New unit feels good nice soft clicks on the light and wiper stalks.

Check the wires as they go into the roof/body inside the rubber tube..my old C5 broke these for the wiper and the top stop light

That could also be knackered rear arm bearings, causing one side to 'stick' until it gets enough load to overcome it.

With the suspension inflated, try bounce testing each rear corner in turn to see if there's any difference in how easily/smoothly you can push it down/get it to bounce back up?

Fitted the new battery and found one of the main + cables had popped out so it could be a combination of situations.

I've got one of the latest slip rings in GWO - you can have it for a lot less than 45 quid!!

i suspect the condensor has rotted away/through from build up of leaves and rubish between it and the main rad,

this is what i found when we did an enginge change on my daughters 02 Picasooooo,

we sourced a new condenser for £100 quid fitted then got my friend who is a mobile air con repairer to check and re/gas the system,

were are you located...

for the fuel filter i disconnect the pipes and electrical plug,
then place an oil filter chain wrench like the one below to undo and re/fit the large plastic ring nut

Hello Richard , It was the first thing I did after dropping the oil. Absolute bugger to remove but happy now done. The car is purring now well for a diesel that is. A BIG THANKYOU to you and all those who passed on such good advise.

I had similar problems too, but little bit lubrication at local garage sorted it out. It´s very easy job to do now that I know how, and should be done regularly (read once a year) to prevent problems. Remember to put some additional support for protection under car when doing this though...

Nice to be able to source two brand new starters, just when you want them and over a bank holiday weekend.
When those kind of things happen to me I invariably wind up with a starter shaped jigsaw puzzle, where some of the bits aren't even from the starter I'm trying to repair!

1. With two fine instrument screwdrivers, prise the end button off the stalk. This has an extended plastic arm which passes through the wiper switch housing and there is a 12mm spring behind it which also comes away.

After having to work on good Friday I managed to break down on my way home and needed to call the recovery people out. Basically I could get so far and then the car would die on me. The fuel supply couldn't keep up with demand and every time I primed the system it would leak diesel but I could get going again for another mile or so then it...

If glow plugs are fine, then valve clearances are the next step, the valves receed into the seats and the clearance gets less with mileage, eventually causing one or more valve to remain slightly open. 140,000 is bang on the mileage this tends to occur.

Excellent, i'll pop the trims off in the boot and have another good look in there. The cable might be tucked away in there somewhere. I only had a quick look last time, but i was hesitant to strip it completely at the time as i wasn't completely sure that i wasn't just on a wild goose chase.

Changed the cat at 160k. No idea when the exhaust was changed, it's not in the history, and I haven't changed it in seven years. The fixing to the manifold is a pain and is so much easier with two people.

This is one of those jobs where if it ain't broke don't fix it is so true.

Lexia won't work with Linux, only XP and Windows 7.
The Linux suggestion was to make that underpowered machine usable.

Is the car an automatic? If so, it is possible that the double beep is happening when you have stopped the car, put her in neutral with the handbrake on, and turned off the ignition. Putting her in park stops the beeps happening.

What is the message you are getting on the info display?

Personally I would of replaced both of the callipers given the known problems/limits of the design.

Yea ALL Air COn pumps mount identically, theres just a difference in the overall body length, and the Earlyer Air COn pump in 1994-7 with two seperate connections for the Freon Pipes.

Just a quick update.

Fitted the new vacuum valve today, did not notice any appreciable difference in performance compared to just having the butterfly valves wide open all the time, but the smoke from the exhaust appeared slightly less. (or maybe it was my imagination). There is however a very slight diesel knock from the engine when driving....

Not the same car or even the same size/profile but I had a pair of 195x15 ZV5s on the Xantia for a several years. Liked older Avons for their wet grip, but the ZV5s were harsh and noisy on the Xantia. The replacement Goodyear Ultragrips (winter tyres) were amazingly quiet, and phenomenal wet grip in the cold. Just back from MOT on my Xantia. Tester noticed the roughness in the steering. I suggested it was the UJ that had had the grease washed out of it. Good blast of the spray grease seems to have cured the problem.

I know that the info I posted appears to be incorrect, but that is also why I posted the manual version number (and, by the fact it begins X2 suggests it could be for a series 2 Xantia) The last page shows a print date 04/2000. Page 118, F3, 10A, under dashboard.

Well I have checked Haynes and it says also F3 fuse under dashboard for hydractive...

I also hate the feel of them I don't care what anyone says they don't feel like a normal clutch ;)

Most Hdi's will start OK without the glow plugs - unless you live in Siberia.

If you take something, a sphere would be ideal, in the colour you need, to most decorators merchants who offer a paint mixing service they will have a gizmo to scan it and generate the paint code. It would be polite to buy a little paint which they will happily mix up for you.
