Reluctor ring

Post by mobbsshane »

Hi

I bought a new 48 tooth reluctor ring off the net for my 2005 Dispatch however on attempting to fit it is far too large. The ring has an internal diameter of 90mm where I would say my existing ring is 85-86mm. The external diameter is fine (it is essentially a thinner ring).

I contacted UK Parts Direct who stock plenty of rings. They have indicated that they have never known of this (but are not surprised). They have suggested a Peugeot 406 mk1 ring which is 48 tooth and 86mm internally. I am somewhat reluctant as I would have thought these would be standard size.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

thanks
Shane

By the way - it is the same external diameter of 100mm.

I can't say about your Dispatch but the Xantia models do have a choice of two different sized rings.

There's a helpline number at this Ebay shop http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-DISPA ... 1e6850f32c I note though that they only list a 90mm on for the Dispatch range.

thanks - yes this is the company i bought the 90mm version from. It is visibly larger and is just far, far too loose for the hub (by 4mm). I suspect that I will end up buying the 406 ring and trying that. Would guess it is a PSA mix and match.

Possible some one has fitted a CV joint off something else that was 'near enough'....

That was my thought too Richard.

Although, I once had a Talbot Horizon in that the customer wanted new front brake disks for, only one part number listed for them but they were entirely different to what was on the car and the car was as delivered from the factory. I had a chat with a guy at the works in Coventry and he told me that when the assembly line was running if there was a supply delay on some item or other they'd just fit whatever was available in the factory, so the front brakes on the Horizon were from some other model, the only match I could find was for a Renault 9 so not even a PSA part.

OK thanks. I was hoping the variation in size was a common anomaly, but as you have both said it was either put in during production or post that point. I have ordered the 86mm 48 tooth reluctor ring and will just hope that fits ok. If not then I can pick up a full driveshaft for under £50.

A bit of a bother though as bought the original reluctor ring weeks ago, just hadn't got round to fixing it. Just hope the post arrives quickly (not great with the bank holiday weekend).

Where the driveshaft was unsupported I've lost some oil out of the gearbox. Now I am embarrassed to say this, but where is the filler point on the box? thanks

service.citroen can't decide and shows 3 types of boxes - post up the last 8 digits of the VIN and I'll see it if it can decide!

You may find there's no filler plug, as such.
Commonly on 206/306, you pull the speedo drive and there are max/min fill marks on it, like a dip-stick.
You fill through the speedo drive aperture. if it's this type it'll be retained by a single nut, or bolt, and horseshoe clip. It's actually easier to fill these than the ones with a filler/level plug in the side of the box!

OK, it says GEARBOX TYPE GEARBOX BE4R

This is a development of the good old BE3 gearbox, and looks like it has a filler / level plug in the end. So if you look from under the wheel arch you should find that one of the bolts on the end cover, at about 4 o'clock, is larger than the others - this is the filler / level plug. Fill it with 75W80 oil (nothing heavier) with the van level till it just runs out. Should take about 1.8 litres from empty.

You might find it easier to fill it via the reverse switch hole (probably hidden under the air filter box), but have the level bolt out so you don't over fill the gearbox.
