Back in love with my Xantia

Post by rory_perrett »

After a string of trials and tribulations in my relationship with my Xantia we are now back home with a nice new MOT certificate. Now at 304,971 miles and 16,500 miles in the last year.
Two advisories, slight roughness in steering fixed then and there with a blast of spray grease on the UJ, and rust on the hydraulic pipes supplying rear suspension unit (but he mentions those every year, one day I will clean them up and paint them).

So another first time pass for the old girl. I don't think I'm going to bother replacing the electro valve for the EGR valve vacuum so that just leaves a potential clutch change. I might just be paranoid but occasionally I think I'm detecting a momentary slip. It certainly seems to be operating towards the top of the travel. Can't really complain as it is still the original unit and I do have a replacement that has only done 35,000 miles. Last time I did one it was while I had the engine and gearbox out of the 2.1. I'm feeling that getting the gearbox out from underneath may be no easier than taking the engine and gearbox out the top, either way I'm in no hurry to tackle it right now.

So here's to another 12 months of life with the Xantia.

Good mileage, two of my XMs did around 300k but not over it. Spray some oil or grease on the hydraulic lines, not only does it hide the rust it protects them.

Paul

I have slowed down a bit as my 25,000 per year is now split between 2 cars so I guess I'll be at around 320k at the next MOT.

Now if my Xantia had cruise control I might use it a bit more ;-)

And you can take some credit for my MOT success as it went through with the wheel and tyre you were good enough to bring over for me as I noticed one of the fronts was looking a bit iffy and I wanted to be sure. So thanks for that.

If yours is a Late W X or Y then you just need to do a bit of wiring and get lexia to tell the ecu its there as I think we have discussed.

Yes hence my comment, it was our conversation that flagged up the possibility of making it a reality.

Mines mostly wired up. I just want the later ecu and body computer from an X or Y reg to sort mine out..
