Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi Guys I've just bought a new Lexia and a mate of mine is giving me an old laptop with XP on it. My question is tha the lexia comes with 2 discs and lots of leads but no instructions. Any tips on which disc to insert first and setting up are gratefully appreciated.

When I drive straight ahead the steering will is not align what I mean that its spokes are not horizontal and it looks like it turned. A month ago it was perfectly aligned and I didn’t touch the steering at all. How can this happen ?

Ahhha I couldnt get the new wishbone bushes to fit they seemed to big to me so I made the mistake
of filling the arm down so they would fit,
it passed the MOT fine there was no play in the beginning
but it cost me £70 for a new bottom arm with bushes already fitted to sort it out.

My Xantia 1.9tdsx is well and truly SORN ed at the moment, but from time to time I set to and tinker around, start it up etc.

hey-up.

Has anyone replaced a clutch in a Xantia 1.9TD 1996 Estate by unbolting the engine mounts on the clutch end, and dropped that end down through the engine bay for access?

Is it possible/worthwhile?

not sure what unit I have.. just the basic SX/LX CD player/Radio..,

been fine until recently..,

but last few days, getting intermittent dodgy FM radio.,. and more recently, a really high pitched squeal .. just about audible, and very annoying..

Unit more likely than the ariel? I did notice some water from the rear interior light a little while...

When I get in the car,(2.2 HDI C5 X7), it's always in economy mode so no suspension pump.
As soon as I start the engine the front of the car rises. Probably about 30 mm+.
As soon as I switch the engine off, the front drops by the same amount, but not slowly and gently. It just drops as if onto a bump stop.

Hi All,

I've just had my 1995 ZX 1.9D fail its CT (the French MOT) with worn bottom arm bushes. Haynes just says “…renew components as necessary.” OK. How easy is it to get the old bushes off and the new ones on? I was a mechanic until I retired, have a reasonable kit of tools, but don’t have a 10-ton press lurking about the place!

Hi Andy, I can say the ZX eye bushes fit 306 etc perfectly. Been there, done that.

I also put poly P-bushes for a 306 on the lingus as I was having a J Arthur moment in my parts buying. So they would also fit a ZX. The actual pressed arms are same right to left, orientation is chosen by P-bush as the balljoint can be flipped.

Having just passed the 270,000 miles, my door has started to make noises. At least I think its my door.. I had my son sit in the back seat last night and he agreed with me that it sounded like the driver door.

It's virtually impossible to stop discs rusting. Mine always have visible rust on them after about 12 hours when it's damp. Using the brakes to de-rust the discs is the best way IMO. It's not caused me a problem

Other than that, when I've laid cars up I've simply made sure all the fluids are topped up, the calipers free and greased, pumped the...

if your putting a Tarp over it then pop to your local wholesalers and get a painters dust sheet for about a tenner and put that on the car, Then the tarp, otherwise the tarp will scratch the daylights out of the paintwork! ;-)

i am looking ar cylinder heads for 2.2 hdi c8
i will need to take my head off as one of the bolts holding top engine mount in to head has snapped off and stuck down in head

i am thinking worst, i could end up needing new head

but would head from c5 2.2 hdi,607 2.2hdi, fit c8 hdi? my engine code taken from v5 is

Hi, all.

I noticed the Xm had a lumpy idle a few months ago. cleaned the ICV and throttle butterfly.
the idle got better, but not completely. still a faint fluctuation around 700rpm and sometimes hesitates on acceleration from start.
I hooked it up to a lexia while idling. it's 125k miles on it.

I have rechecked the temperature by lexia.
the ambient temperature was around 14 degrees,

　before starting engine, air intake temperature was 20 degrees, coolant was 15. might be a error? looks like it tends to read a little higher than it should, indeed.

Been working my way through all the broken wires that are stopping my HRW working, now all done (I hope) but the tabs on the screen the connectors go on to have come away. Done a bit of research and it seems that what's needed is this:- onclick= window.open(this.href);return false;

Well, the glass epoxy and silver conductive paint worked on my BX. The paint wasn't cheap (about £8 for a little tube), and it does go off over time, so I would suggest speaking to your mates to see if they need their HRW repaired.

The handbook says the car will have either the eco button,which mine has,or an aircon button where the eco button is....what I want to know is,does this mean the car has aircon or not? if it does,how does it work?? Hi all I've just brought a c8 to keep up with the expanding family, all seemed good on the test drive, but I didn't try the radio! Basically it beeps, fairly loudly about once a second, any idea what could cause this or more importantly how I can make it stop?

An aftermarket unit will normally work OK, I have a Pioneer in my C5, but the remote controls won't work unless you can get an adaptor, as modern radios have what purports to be a rotary volume control they are much easier to adjust so I didn't worry about one.

Bloody Norah!

Clutch cable just gone in the 'new' S1. Makes me realise why Paul likes S2's so much.

Not a job I fancy doing especially if it's as bad as doing a BX.

Any thoughts/feelings on cable quality? Genuine or pattern?

I thought cables didn't snap until clutch is ready for change

Cool. Thought I had interpreted it right. Anyway, in the end, I chose to go with 155 off carpet so approx. 135 travel and pedal is way above brake at that.

The metal clip is designed not to foul the clutch pedal but....

It is within a gnat's hair of touching the clip when fully depressed.

Q: :( I encountered a problem in setting the timing of the camshaft on my XUD. I am not sure of the correct alignment position.

Generally XUD's are aligned at about 2 o clock. HDi's are about 7 o clock.

At about 2 o clock on my camshaft sprocket, there is an a`adequate threaded hole in the engine casing behind, to take an 8mm bolt.

I need to look into a cooling efficiency problem. :shock: , and want to list the potential - and most likely areas for examination. I'd be grateful for your input on this.

Hello folk, I've had a truck reverse turn and crush my driver side front wing. It appears the outer wing is simply bolted on: is replacement only a matter of unbolting and re-bolting, plus sealant?

Hi Everyone

Continuing my saga with burnt out heater connectors....I've located the melted connectors and replaced the filthy pollen filter with a new one but now I want to remove the fan itself so I can clean and lubricate it. What's the best way to access it?
I've removed the glovebox for more space, what next?

Hello Chaps, chapettes.

The Clutch is slipping on Tank (2001 2.0hdi C5)

I have been quoted horrendous amounts of moneys to (£800) to replace (includes the DMF)

I cant afford that with the run up to Christmas. :cry:

How many miles do you reckon I have left?
Its slipping a tad in 3rd and 4th as the turbo spools up, and its difficult to put it...

I have a Picasso with a DMF, it's been chirping for a while now (years) I'll swap it when it starts juddering. It's got 80k plus on it and I'll be replacing it like for like, leaving it standard :)

I have a C5 diesel and one of the tyre sensors have started to play up though i dont know which one as first i got a warning, Tyres(s) deflated) then after 2 weeks, Tyre(s) punctured - checked all the tyres and they are ok, even let them down a bit and re-inflated them to match the required pressure.

I cannot tell which sensor is playing up so...

Hi all, I am having trouble with my 1.9D citroen dispatch vans gear selection, it will quite happily select gears 2,4 and Reverse but will not select either gears 1,3 and 5 and it feels as though these gears are 'not there'. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, many thanks

It's usually a good idea to have the head skimmed just to be sure. Even if the engine doesn't have a history of overheating it may need a few thou milled off to clean up the surface.
Alloy heads are a touch on the bendy side and tend to distort when you torque them up and unbolt them.

I would like to know what kind of preventive maintenance should I do regarding the EGR valve and the maintaining clean injectors.

I have 2.0 110 HDI 1999 Xantia Estate. The car runs well as of now at 114 thousand miles. my 2 issues are

Vehicle is a 2004 Berlingo 1.4 manual. 79k miles.

I was struggling with a stiff and sticky pedal, so put a new cable on which has helped. Biting point was right near the floor, and still is - in fact its getting difficult to get it into gear.

Am I in the realms of needing a clutch? I'm happy to spend the money, but want to make sure there isn't...

A car that was reported as suffering occasional stumbling at freeway speeds. No obvious issues other than a fuel filter well past its best. No smoking gun with Lexia. Injector flow corrections just about perfect.

Well I know it's a different engine but the symptoms are the same - 407 2.0hdi. I'd just bought the car and stumbling would be a good description of what was happening at 60-70mph. I thought it was doing a regen. Lexia/ PP200 said no, so I blanked the egr and the stumblings gone.

Started having a problem with the xantia alarm, for the last week or so it has started giving me false alarms approx 2-3 a day. I knew the ultrasonic sensors were knackered so i bought a couple from fleabay for £5, fitted them both and hey presto a working alarm with both ultrasonic sensors working 100%...GREAT...well thats what i though...

If you're ok with soldering and gluing you can replace the ultrasonic sensors with generic replacements which cost under £20 for the pair.

I have a problem with hard steering and squeaking alternator. Are these two connected somehow?

When the alternator is squeaking the steering gets hard and lights go a little dim. The squeaking only happens on low revs. If I get the revs to about 3000/min it stops and is silent also on low revs for some time...

Any ideas?

Replaced the crank pulley and the squeaking has stopped.

It was in such a bad shape that you can turn it by hand. :shock:

I have an fault that makes the electrical system go completely dead after the delay after the ignition is turned off.
Th tailgate can thereby not be opened. Also the suspension is going up to the highest level, and sometimes the windowwipers do one sweep when the ignition is turned on again.
I have check all fuses I can find. Any ideas of likely...

You should easily be able to leave the car for 2-3 weeks no problem without doing anything ! Like I said when the car is built its left in the park position till it gets PDI'd at the dealers. It saves any drain on the battery in case the car is sitting around for months in a compound.
There would be no problem moving it over yourself if leaving...

Last Saturday I went to a Esso garage to feed my 53 xsara picasso 2.0HDI. I just noticed it's supreme diesel after started filling...stopped but already got around 13L in. Then I drove off. I noticed the fuel gauge didn't go up, it looked like that I hadn't filled the tank at all. I thought the fuel level sensor might not like the supreme diesel...

Hi there - my 2005 (facelift) C5 1.6HDi is showing risk of particle filter blocking. I've read that it may be caused by the filler cap switch not being detected when refilling the tank.
T've taken the switch out (I believe a magnetic switch) but nothing is attached to it. How do I find the reed swicth (?) which is operated by the magnetic switch -...

On the 1.6 HDi the DPF and CAT converter are combined in the same housing. Also any price you see is usually the exchange price.

I recently noticed a coolant leak in my Citroen C4 (petrol, 1.4cc, 2004).
The leakage exacerbates when I use the cabin heater in the Hot position, in this case, the bottom part of radiator, and the surroundings gets really wet, and the coolant level at reservoir goes down significantly.

I notice there are other similar posts for this but on much later citroen's, maybe a daft question but one I am sure all citroen lovers will know.

A spanner icon shows up when the cars ignition coming on with roughly 2.5k left and it looks like its counting down, i think this will be a total of 55k by the time it does.

I remember in my Xantia service interval was 15000 km (9320 miles according to converter) but I changed oil every 10000 km (6213 miles) :)

In C5 it is 20000 km (12500 miles) :roll: and I still keep it as 10k km.
