Woking to Aberdeen, poor weather and heavy traffic meant fairly slow going from south of Birmingham, up to Preston. Not too bad from then on, just a couple of heavy showers on the M74. Returning a miserable 46.4 mpg fully laden, but it's the first time I've done this run without a fuel stop. There must be something in this speed reducing policy! I usually use the full speed limits and a touch more and the fuel gauge drops rapidly. This time, a nice steady build up, no rapid acceleration and mostly on cruise control. Still not on the red so I have to be happy with that. The added bonus is, SWIMBO arrived in a much calmer frame of mind than usual.
The car drove very well John, with no suspension issues. Very smooth and positive. I tried sport and normal settings and both were comfortable on motorway and town.

Good news rick.. so up there on a tank ? How far is that? 500miles ?

The way you drive makes a tremendous difference to the fuel consumption, I tend to drive at no more than 60 mph or 2000 rpm and my 406 and C5 will return an easy 60mpg+ on a long journey.

it seems that an average of +50mpg is achievable. Have been close to 55mpg up to 4k but it just takes a few days stuck in traffic and the average plummets.
