I don't have knowledge of the Peugeot, but the issue of a loose connection is known with several makes of car.
I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

Heater blow is a peice of peeeee!! But you have to do it standing on your head! no seriously you do! in the passenger foot well, remove the trim behind the glovebox. There is the heater blower. Remove the three screws( standing on your head!), remove the plugs and then stick in a new one. Job done!

Hello Everyone!
My 406 have a gear problem... In the morning, when temparature is below 0c, (when water freezes).. =)
it's very hard to shift from 1 to 2, but about 5 minutes when engine is running the problem goes away, i have changed clutch, gearoils (right one, 75w80) but no help.... any ideas? When engine is heated, gearbox works fine...

Sounds like an air leak allowing a small amount of air to be drawn in when the car is standing. Check all the pipes for signs of perishing and cast a critial eye aroung the fuel filter housing.
A very small hole an let air in, but won't let diesel out so you'll need to examine them well and replace anything suspect.
Also check that all the unions...

I can remember someone using that company a while back for a Citroen & were pleasantly surprised at how competitive the price was.
They aren't a complicated car to put a clutch in & they shouldn't have to take the engine out to do the job, just drop the box off.

Just thought I would enquire about this, before I commit to having the clutch replaced at great expense. My 92 405 GLD's clutch has started slipping, mainly when the engine is fully warmed. I don't suppose that can be cured by adjusting the cable? It's the same clutch at 108,000 so I can't complain.

I have recently bought a 405 diesel (K reg), and the electric windows seem quite reluctant to operate. One is worse than the other and it seems to have a tight spot, half way up.

The rev counter is probably the multiplug on the senser cable. Open the bonnet, just in front of the injectors on the r/h side as you look at it you'll see a plug connector. Seperate it and spray with WD40, make and remake it a few times, this will hopefully cure it. (It cured my erratic tacho anyhow). You should be able to replace the bulb on...

I have taken a flashlight and looked at the cable connection to the handle, and it does not go back when i push the handle back down. Went to see this car.
I was in good nick apart from the odd scratch.
One thing bugged me though, the rev guage did not work, I asked him why, and he replied its because it has a different fly wheel??
Anyone know how to fix this?
So we agreed on a price and he is going to get it MOTed.

That'll be an airlock in the heater most likely. Unfortunately, that usually means there is (or is about to be) an airlock in the head which takes out the head gasket and usually warps the head.
Fix the leaking core plug, then bleed the system using an expansion tank.
Don't leave this unlesss you like changing head gaskets, and don't be tempted to...

the water doesnt always go into the sump, the gasket might be blown right on the edge of the combustion chamber, so the water will go right in, turn to steam and go right out the exhaust. hope that helped

I don't know about the Pugs but on the Cits the header tank is below the highest point in the system so you have to rig something up to get a head of water. I found a length of waste pipe worked well with a little padding. Then open the bleed screws in turn until water seeps out.
You may have missed a bleed screw as well, look at the piping around...

Have you checked that all doors are securely shut? I had the same problem recently, and the passenger seat belt was trapped in the door, which meant the central locking kept unlocking after pressing the key fob. The central locking system is a closed circuit, so the fact that it locks and then unlocks, means that the circuit is open somewhere....

If its the Lucas EPIC pump I'm not familiar with it, but being as the lift pump is integral with it I would assume it to be of the centrifugal design, these pumps are not very efficient at starter cranking speeds and so don't come in to play much for starting.
The fact that the car will start at higher temperatures suggest to me that this is one...

It is possible to disarm the immobiliser by entering the correct code, waiting for the three bleeps and green light. Afer this you can simply disconnect the immobiliser and it will never bother you again. It is important not to disconnect it before you have entered the correct code as this can mess up the ECU.

Is it there at all engine speeds or does it gradualy fade as speed increases.
Does speed make no difference to the noise or does it stop abruptly at a particular engine speed.
Is it really a missfire, does the engine move (vibrate) on its mounts in time to the noise.

Not familiar with the 306 but if you can take the grill off there are usualy three relays in a box between the two fans (most citroens are like this), they can suffer corrosion of the spade terminals on the relays.
The fans will run in series at six volts for low speed and in parralel at 12 volts for high speed.

By adding an extra intercooler, you may be giving more power, but is it worth it ?

OK, I know it's coming in through the pollen filter, but I can't work out why. The plastic panel above seems intact, and is fitted correctly, but still the water comes in. It doesn't come in very fast using a hose though, seems to be much worse if driving, ie with the wind pushing it in.
Someone else must have had this problem???

Thats how I've done it on a ZX, its awkward so you might want a mate helping by pulling on the shaft while you wallop only the centre part that is splined to the end of it with a soft metalic drift, preferably brass.
NOTE: the last one of these I did this way sheared the retaining wire circlip on the end of the shaft, this did not matter at the...

Have you checked the timing? The 1.9 engines are low clearance engines, so if the timing is off even a little, then the knocking noise could be the cylinder/s slapping the valve.
If you can get hold of a Timing light... then I suggest doing so... because if the problem is left for too long it could damage the engine head. A friend of mine bought...

Just a bit more info is it helps!!!
This morning I got in the car and turned the ignition for the heater plugs and I get a load relay type click from the bulkhead area. If I turn the ignition off a second later it clicks again.

Turn off ignition. Hold down trip reset button (at the bottom of the speedo) and turn the ignition on, you don't have to start it. It will start counting down on the display 10,9,8.... etc. When it reaches zero let go and the spanner should be gone and it will tell you the mileage until the next service is due when you turn the car on.

Correction. Now does it all the time and gearchange up and down then becomes terrible. Revs at idle between 1100-2500. Water temp OK, car does it hot or cold. HELP, Peugeot dealer looming!

Presumably the Weber carb is just a standard downdraft twin throat carby? If so, turning the mixture screw will do absolutely nothing apart from alter the idle mixture; it has absolutely no effect whatsoever on the overall mixture settings.

306 boot interior light problem

The switch is hidden inside the hatch door. You have to remove the trim of the hatch door to expose the switch. It is a level switch which shuts off when the boot door is closed. If I could remember correctely, you have to bend the arm of the switch so that it senses the level correctely.
Having said all this, why don't you try checking the fuse...

These engines really don't get moving until that kind of revs (4500+), so short of it being dirty injectors it could mean someone doing a diagnostic check.
How long have you owned the car, because if it's a recent purchase, most new owners get caught with this. After a while, you tend to drive with plenty of revs on the tacho and use the gearbox...

Sounds like the sunroof drains to me. Lots of posts on methods of detection, using the forum search for Sunroof Leak Wet type stuff accross all forums will give you loads to go on.

Recently my 2000 406 has been getting wet/damp in the middle of the rear seats when it's raining.
It doens't only happen when I'm driving but the seats also seem to get wet when the car has just been standing still in the rain.
Does anyone have any idea if this is a common problem on the 406, and maybe have a solution?

The orange light is the Engine auto diagnostic warning indicator.
It is basically tell you that there is a fault with the Ignition/fuel injection systems.
It could be a faulty sensor or something as simple as a poor connection to a sensor.

Yes check the black four pin plug and socket on the injection pump, clean the contacts and if it looks necessary (and possible) squeeze the females in a bit
Might you have disturbed it some while playing around with the EGR valve, by the way leaving it blocked wont cause any problems for a diesel, as you have discovered they prefer it that way,...
