peugeot 106 cold starting problem

Post by tomtaylor »

My Peugeot 106D (1996 and only 55,000 K) has a cold starting problem. I have checked glow plugs, battery and cold start system, which seem to be working ok. Once started and run for 5 minutes it will run smoothly (even after stopping the engine and starting again after 3 hours or more). A garage has told me that a likely cause is low compression and possibly liner problems - expensive!! However, today I have noticed a small fuel leak from around the stop solanoid. Is this likely to be the cause of my starting problem? I have attempted to prime system by using bulb to no avail. Any advice would be appreciated before I go to an expensive garage for repair.

your fuel leak could be the cause as the engine will be sucking in air as well as fuel and diesel engines dont like that! if you fix that and the problems still there i'll have to agree with the compression loss theory!
