306 Stiff clutch pedal

Unread post by Nikolaymk »

Hi,
I drove a friend's 1994 1.6XL 306 and noticed how stiff his clutch pedal was. What is the most likely cause and is there an "easy fix"?
Many thanks

Replacing the clutch cable usually helps.
Caused by clutch cable running near hot exhaust and drying out over time.

When you are changing the cable, would it be advisable to drop some oil in the new cable.
Also, changing the clevis pin and associated clips at the pedal end ?

Not too bad a job. Was slightly more diifcult on mines because of turbo getting in the way. Helps if you have a pit, or car is raised, as the trickiest bit is feeding the clutch cable through the bulkhead into the footwell.
Make sure its clipped back in all the original places. Also make sure you get the right clutch cable, as some are self adjusting (big hosed lump in middle of cable).
