Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

According to Takata, the chemicals in the airbags’ explosive charge can...

Disruption to Parts Service

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

306 immobiliser

by r_306_XSi » 12 May 2004, 01:58

First post

Hi!
I am aware that there are two different forms of immobiliser.
One is quite easy to spot as it uses a keypad to disable it.
The second uses a chip inside the key. When the key is placed in the ignition and turned, a coil around the barrel energises, sending a pulse to the chip in the key. If the chip is recognised, the engine starts!
This can...

406 GLX stereo "overload" problem

When I play loud thrash metal for any decent period of time on my car stereo, the volume automatically goes quiet and the word OVERLOAD appears on the stereo screen.
Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way round it bar listening to music more quietly, which I don't want to do?

Is it the breather at the base of the filler neck round the back?

Hdi 90hp 110hp

by rossd » 10 May 2004, 00:02

First post

The 306 ony had the HDi 90.
Diferences include (but not limited to!) ECU, injectors, 110 has an intercooler.
If looking at a 306, check the crankshaft pulley has been changed for the redesigned version, some early high pressure pumps played up and some had clutch problems. Otherwise not much, just normal used car checks really.

Last post

Could someone tell me what the actual difference in between each version. I know the 307 is avaliable as 110hp but is the 306? I am interested in buying a 306 but would prefer the 110hp if poss, what do I look out for? Appreciate your advice.

Timing belt advice (205)

by JohnD » 07 May 2004, 23:49

First post

Thirteen years is a long time to run a cambelt, even if it has just done 30K miles. I would get it changed ASAP. All my experience has been on various Pug and Cit diesel engines, but I don't think your engine has a spring loaded pulley, so care has to be taken in getting the tension correct. I guess a small garage would charge around £130.

CV boot split

by RichardW » 04 May 2004, 16:57

David,
Sorry, the only (sensible) way is to take the drive shaft out of the hub and split the CV joint. About 1 hour's labour at your local garage, plus the boot. lower rad hose

by rossd » 29 Apr 2004, 14:05

First post

To get it back in? Or to remove it? I replaced the radiator on my TD 306 a few weeks back and the simplest way to get the hose back in was to warm up the radiator stub where the hose is inserted with a hairdryer. After holding the dryer in position for a bout 10 minutes, the hose just slid in!
To remove, turn the locking collar, pull the clips...

Crankshaft pulley on TU3S

by JohnD » 28 Apr 2004, 23:31

First post

Crankshaft pulley bolts are usually b******s to get out. Not only are they tight but they are put in using locktite. Therefore, to soften the glue, get the engine up to working temperature. You need to lock the flywheel to stop the engine turning, but don't use the timing hole. Sometimes you can get away with using reverse gear with brakes...

Last post

Anyone got any hints on how to remove the crankshaft pulley on a pug TU3D engine? The bolt is really tight and I can't remove it.
Cheers,
Antony

Performance exhaust for my 306

by macaroni » 28 Apr 2004, 20:27

First post

There are loads of performance exhausts, especially for Peugeots. It depends what you want. Despite their claims, none will offer any more power if you keep the cat, but they do offer nice sounds and looks. Magnex are as good as any, but Devil supply exhausts to Peugeot Sport so they might be worth a look. If you want a bespoke system, ie twin...

Bendix ABS

by mbunting » 27 Apr 2004, 21:20

Hi All,
I've got a 405 SRDT with Bendix ABS, and there's an ABS error. My previous Xantia was easy to diagnose with the wiring info and a multimeter, but I can't find any such stuff for the Bendix on the 405.
I may get underneath and look for the connection joints for the rear sensors, but it looks like the fronts are straight into the modulator /...

Dozey rear wiper

And, as if by magic, it fixes itself!

Last post

I caused much amusement to the driver behind me this morning when I gave my rear windscreen a squirt and the wiper lazily swished halfway across the screen and gave up, leaving the screen wet, mucky and with a wiper arm halfway across it.
I pulled up at work and gave the wiper arm a bit of a wiggle with the wiper switch on and it came to life and...

Broken brake bleed nipple

by reblack68 » 26 Apr 2004, 03:44

First post

1. With great difficulty, if at all
2. That's perfectly OK forever, all the bleed nipple does is bleed and you've done that. It's already been established that the nipple's securely in ;)
3. Lots of heat, lots of care but you still can't be certain. If it breaks do the hose trick again.

Last post

I replaced one of the front brake hoses on my Peugeot 205 today but unfortunately the bleed nipple sheared straight off!
My questions are as follows:
1. How can I remove the sheared piece of metal without damaging the calpier? Unfortunately it has sheared off flush with the surface of the caliper!
2. As a short term measure I bled the brakes by...

Peugeot 406 air con not working

by alan s » 26 Apr 2004, 17:58

First post

If it's got a gas leak & therefore low on gas, the air/con system will not trigger. Probably best to get things tested by an air/con mechanic particularly gas charge levels.

406 Trip Computer conversion

by bennyalford » 25 Apr 2004, 02:29

Hi folks,
I have a D9 model 406 (late 99) which came with the basic multifunction display (time and date). I have access to a crashed 2001 406 with the trip computer function, from which I've swapped over the display unit and the wiper stalk (with trip computer button). So far the new display shows the time and date, and if any systems are faulty...

205 Unleaded?

by philhoward » 24 Apr 2004, 00:53

First post

A narrow neck only specifies that you MUST use unleaded (catalytic converters, etc).
Most cars of this era will use unleaded, subject to a slight change in the ignition timing. I'd guess the 205 falls in this category, being ally-headed so should have harder valve inserts to cope. No doubt someone here will soon give you a definitive answer;...

Hi
My son's girlfriend is looking at an H registered Peugeot 205 with a 1.1 petrol engine. Can anyone confirm if it's leaded or unleaded petrol? The present owner says they've been using unleaded, but it doesn't have a narrow fuel filler neck.
Thanks

205GLD 1990 - oh dear the problem is coming back

by JohnD » 23 Apr 2004, 23:28

First post

It still sounds as though air is getting into the fuel lines. If using the hand primer allows the engine to restart, or prevents it from cutting out, then an air leak is your trouble.

Last post

Hello I posted on here at the begining of March about my 205D not idling right and cutting out. This was eventually fixed by replacing the Diesel pump and fuel pipes. The fuel filter was also changed. The diesel pressure to the injectors increased ie went from a trickle to spraying out when you losened the injectors off and all was well.
Now some...

1993 306 Indicators stuck on - Help

by Dave Burns » 23 Apr 2004, 04:05

First post

Stuck relay in the alarm ECU, disconect the alarm multiplug and see if the indicators go off, if they do you will need to replace the relay on the alarm pcb or free its burnt contacts, difficult to do and difficult to obtain a suitable replacement relay.
Obtaining a replacement alarm ECU from a scrapper would probably be a better solution.

Infra-red is like a TV remote, they only work when there is a line of sight to the receiver. The receiver in Infra-red equipped cars is usually in the roof, just above the rear view mirror.
Radio remotes work from a much greater distance and don't require a line of sight.
I think you're probably looking for an infra-red type but I'm not sure. I'm...
