Help needed Brakes!!

Unread post by maddave »

Help me!! Just trying to replace the brake pads on my 405 and cant get the new ones on cos the piston is stuck and wont move back!! Girling calipers.
I thought it might be a stuck caliper so tried the other side but both just wont move back. As my pads are worn down to the mountings I need to move the piston back a large amount and just dont see how Im gonna do it. Is there a nack to this?!!!
See pic for any assistance!!

if they are really stuck fast spray some release oil on the pistons leave it for a while come back do it again if you use a tire lever or good size scewdriver try to force the old pad back if its sticking out like the photo use abit of wood as a drift and hit it with a hammer.as the piston goes back the level of fluid in the resevoir can rise so stick an old towel or big rag on top so that it dosn`t spray over the underside of the bonnet.once it released try working it to make sure its going to move freely.

Success!! I used a huge screwdriver and levered it back in!! What a pain in the arse that job was. Only took me 10 minutes to put the new pads in after that!! Bloody haynes and its two spanners worth!!

Hi
It could be worse, You could have an airbag equipped 405 with its 405 / 406 hybrid wiring loom. The wiring diagram in the haynes manual looks sod all like what you have in front of you on your car, had to borrow a Haynes 406 manual & use both to work out how to fix electrical problems, lol.

Pleased you've sorted it!
My tip is to use a screw type valve spring compressor or G-clamp.
