Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

If you're having problems with blower temp control or two speed fan not working properly try the following.
Remove the front courtesy light, then undo the 2 screws to remove the whole housing. Disconnect the orange plug which is for the cabin sensor. The heater then works by taking the mean average from the other 2 sensors ( coolant and outside )...

You get what you pay for. How much recon work has been done on an engine for £550? A full set of gaskets and seals will cost nearly £40, timing belt and tensioners £50, an oil pump must be £40. this soon eats into the £550 and does this include fitting? I may be wrongly thinking it's a diesel one, either way, you need to be asking how much has...

Thing is, for little more than I was quoted for the job at a local independent (£250), I notice that I can get a recon cylinder head fitted, complete with recon valves and springs, for only £295 including VAT.

Dont know about the lights but the front subframe, engine, suspension etc is all the same. The 309's rear axle is wider though. Best thing would be to go along there, if he wants to sell them enough he will let you try and clip them into your car first

I am assured by someone who raced 205s that the front ends of the 205 and 309 are interchangeable. How true is this?
I need some British headlamps for my LHD 309. The local breaker only has 205 lamps - £15 each - but swears they are identical.

Well looks like I need to replace a track rod end, I've got the clonk when steering and some vibration at about 50mph from the old girl. I see from a spare end set I have its in several bits, unlike a modern bolt on end. Anybody got any tips on changing these?

The two engines are: XUD9 which is 1905cc and XUD7 which is 1769cc. It's the XUD7 which is sometimes called 1.8 The only difference is the smaller engine has a piston diameter of 80.0mm and the 1.9 is 83.0mm. Stroke is the same in both. Slight difference in comp ratio.

I'm once again looking at Autotrader for a new 405 estate.
Have spotted a couple of v. low milage J regs, however they seem to have 1.8 litre diesel turbos. Did pug make 1.8 DTs? I thought they only did 1.9s. If these are genuine is there anything to note as a major difference/drawback to them?
How different are the 1.8s to work on?

Get yourself a 'breaker bar' if you don't have one (a long bar with a half-inch drive on the end) to undo bolts.
It should be a straightforward job, but getting old bushes out and pressing new ones in can be a pig if you've not done it before.
It's not much more expensive to buy new control arms from GSF complete with the new bushes already...

This is a commmon problem on the 306. It's likely that the wiring harness from the door to the door pillar is in poor condition. The wires become brittle and with the constant flexing they end up breaking down. I think this causes the CL to play up. Pull back the rubber boot on the loom and check for broken/breaking-up wires. It's tight in...

check first if voltage is appearing at the strip connectors. If not, then it will indeed be the timer relay which has failed (can you hear a click when you press the switch on?) If there is voltage at the connectors, then it may be that someone has put a big scratch in the rear window, and broken all the stripes. Bad luck if they have, cos they're...

The pipe came off the tailgate screen washer and the water soaked the tailgate lock actuator and fritzed it.

Dont know if this is any help but i managed to fit larger discs and calipers to my 1.9 gti from a wrecked 206 hdi,no problem at all.bear in mind that im running 16 rims so theres plenty of space.

Cleaned up my idle stepper motor on my 306 1.8 8 valve (which was filthy), but made the mistake of pulling the plunger out which then came to bits. Put it back together but engine running rough. Does anyone know how to get the ecu to realign the stepper motor?

Not sure about the struts, but a knocking when turning is often down to a split driveshaft gaiter. I can never quite remember which way round it is, but I've got a feeling that knocking when turning right indicates a dodgy left-hand gaiter. Or it might be the other way around Check both are in good condition as it's a fairly common part to perish.

I have the exact same problem on my ZX, as soon as you accelerate the engine holds back for a couple of seconds and then clears, have you noticed this happens more in the wet?

How long was it since you cleaned the engine last? If there was a leak it'd be more than just a film and would end up as spots on your driveway The engine in my old 306 was a mess, but half an our with a can of Gunk and a new camshaft breather pipe later (mine had a large split and no jubilee clip) the engine was sparkling and stayed that way...

The sensor / aerial unit for the RF keyfobs is located behind the glovebox.
Some very early 406 L & LX had the infra red remotes & the sensor unit for these was in the roof consoul.

I have a T reg 406 LX and the central door locking system is very intermittent and it's definately not the key batteries. I have been told it's located in the roof space above the mirror but it's not as there is only the light and arial connection!

Hi,
the 1.9td engine is the same as the 405, so the usual stuff applies, good cooling system, cambelts etc.
The 2.1td engine is much better; full electronic injection control, much faster but no less economical. It is, however, a more complex engine. Clutches are a horrible job (a days labour at least as it is hydraulic), as are cambelts (£400)....

Give us a clue on the mechanics that have done the clutch. Not kw** fit by any chance?

I've taken my 206 to have it's annual service done and they have reported that the clutch release bearings have gone and the clutch needs replacing. There is a noise from my 206 when the car is in nuetral and the clutch pedal is up.
I've since gone with the dealers advice in that the clutch needed replacing.
However, I have had the clutch replaced...

As far as I am aware all HDi engines have a turbo.
A 90 will (I guess) be the same as fitted to the Xsara Picasso, i.e. turbo but no intercooler.
As for the fuel leak / engine management light I have no idea. I don't know if they could be connected but it's probably best to assume not. And if they are selling it in this state it doesn't say much...

Check the intermediate bearing in the lower engine mount, The right hand drive shaft passes through this & a worn bearing or housing will give you all sorts of nasty noises.

I drove my 405 diesel today and stopped as it SOUNDED like I had a puncture, but the tyres were OK.
I tested turning tightly in a car park ,and on left turns there was loadish clicking.
This SUGGESTS the right hand shaft needs replacing.
Before I shell out to have repaired, does anyone have OTHER cheaper things to check first please?

Have a webb serch for Black country exhausts. West Mids based but I think they do nation wide delivery. Dirt cheap and last time I was at the base they had all the sporty looking stuff.

Hello, I followed the haynes manual instruction on how to deactivate airbag system, although i diconnected both terminals on the battery (is this okay?),so i could replace front seats. Unfortunatley i did not follow he correct activation procedure and now have a flashing airbag light. I just conected the battery back up and started it and the bag...

Hi
I know there was someone on a forum last year who was hit by a motorbike & the 405 airbag worked its magic.
What year is the 405 in question?
Some 405s where recalled because of a fault with the rotary switch behind the steering wheel that could stop the airbag firing even though the start up test light sequence is working fine, Perhaps yours...

What does it take to set off a 405 airbag.
I just totalled one smashing the car into a wall and then flipping it over when one of the rear wheels snapped off, and the airbag made no appearance at all.
Before anyone asks I was unhurt apart from a few scratches, although my bank manager won't like me for a while.

Hi
Firstly, Have you checked the oil level in the autobox?
You should find a dipstick for the gearbox under the bonnet, Do you have the handbook for the car?
Normally the level is checked when warm, Park up with the handbrake on & leave the engine running.
Put your foot on the brake pedal & hold it there.
Move the gear lever through all the gears...

Just bought a 1998 1.8LX Auto. It's perfectly OK round town and on short journeys, but after a long blast down the motorway, then off on to an A road, it starts juddering and lacks power, the auto box becomes erratic and the orange ECU warning lamp comes on, then clears, and comes on again repeatedly. Also the car will crawl forward in neutral....

The code on the petrols is stored in the ECU & Keypad, Both MUST match or the system throws a sulk & locks up.
Take the ECU to a Peugeot dealer & ask them to unlock it, After you have shown them proof of ownership which they will ask for.
You could always get hold of the matching keypad & the code & unlock it permanently yourself.

You might have a popped washer hose somewhere? Fill the washer fluid botttle right up to the brim then try washing the back window. If the level goes down but nothing comes out of the washer nozzle then it's quite likely. If this is the case then check in the footwells and in the boot for possible damp patches. Also check for waer spilling out...

Hi
I know there is a water level sensor located on the offside of the radiator a few inches down from the filler cap.
Can you see what colours the connector plugs are that these wires are attached to?

I've noticed the alternator belt has chafed thro some wiring which seems to run to sensors in the offside of the radiator. Have not had car long and haven't noticed any problems yet.Does any one have any ideas please.

I've let a peugeot mecahnic look and he couldn't find the problem in the hour I allowed. He expects it could be a connector as the unit doesn't seem to be getting any power.
Does anyone know the locations of the connectors/wiring leading to the temperature and blower control dash?
Would mine be linked to the ignition switch as well?

When I try to switch the AC on or the internal circulation nothing happens, I have no fans and am unable to change the temperature setting.

Does the standard exhaust on a 1995 306 TD have a catylst, as my son's peugeot that he recently bought has a modified exhaust straight from the exhaust manifold to the rear box. He wants this to be changed back to standard but he's unsure if he needs a cat centre of not.

i would consider changing the front bush on the arms aswell,if the rears are worn, then the fronts will be weak!
the bushes from GSF are normally OE spec,but in a different box.
take your car to a good tyre outlet that can do four wheel geometry check,that will tell you if theres a problem ie: caster/camber etc.

I replaced my lower arm bushes recently and all was fine other than major brake judder.... once the judder was fixed ( new discs) the front suspension has felt very loose.. ie when i slam the brakes the car thuds and the steering wheel straightens up sharply...

Its an XUD, it'll go for ever and ever! I've just sold my old N-reg DTurbo, It was on 112K and still going like the day it was new. Had to replace the radiator cos it leaked from road slat corrosion, btu that was about it. Did lots of preventative maintanaince on it, but it was very very reliabe. Oh and the glowplugs went a couple of winters ago....

Fitted it should be about £300 if you shop around. As for just the clutch to fit your self check GSF's main site there about the cheepest you will find - and it helps fund this forum :).

Easy, its the rubber mountings where the axle joins the chassis. Mine went with these symptoms. Jack the car up so that the weight of the axle is hanging from the car, e.g jack the car from the chassis not the axle. If its the rear mounts that have gone, they will pull apart from the weight of the axle. If not, its the more expensive front passive...

sounds like the main climate control curcuit board is faulty.
the 306 used to suffer with the same problem,cold air on one setting and hot air on the next.

I have a 1997 (R) 1.9 GLX TD. The heater only blows hot air out when the temp is set at 30Deg, but blows cold out between 14 and 29. Theres no fault in the fan, as that works full range in both manual and auto, and no fault in the A/C.

I would say the poor cornering, wandering and odd steering is one of 3 things, track rod ends, drop links or shocks, with the car jacked up can you feel any play in wheel movement if you shake it by hand?
I would do the droplinks anyway and the track rod ends as they are cheap and easy to do, if that doesnt cure it then might be time for a new...

If you look deeper into the forum, you will see my call for help with a 306 XSi very juddery to pull off, needing a lot of rev's. People suggested stepper motor's and whatnot, but now its solved!
The exhaust had a slight blow. I took it to Pro-Speed exhausts in cardiff (south wales) for a complete new £400 system, and bingo! Problem solved. Turns...

You might find it a lot cheaper to go to your local Bosch Automotive dealer for a new ABS sensor then a Peugeot dealer.
Also when you get the new sensor, DONT peel the white paper off the end of it, Thats there to set the correct airgap.
Fit the sensor so the paper is touching the toothed rotor, Now spin the wheel, The paper gets removed by the...
