The pump on my 306 HDi is giving problems, the local specialist has diagnosed this as a worn high pressure pump. ( lift pump in tank already changed)
my question is this, are all pumps on the 2.0 litre HDi motors( peugeot & citroen) substantially the same or do i have to search for one which precisely matches the existing pump?
how difficult are these pumps to change?

Yes, they are all the same as far as I know. There is a 2 micron filter in the pressure regulator on the rear of the pump. It often clogs after the failure of the in tank pump. It cannot be cleaned so the pressure regulator needs to be changed. Usual cost approx €150. With the bosch system you cannot be too careful when changing fuel filters. Failure to maintain surgical clenliness will result in problems with the filter in the hp pump.

What is the problem with the pump ? The problem with the pump, i have been informed by a local garage, is that it is possibly wearing!. The mechanic did add that a change of the pressure regulator might sort the problem , but that he could not guarantee a fix.
I am guessing that this was possibly to cover himself, I am thinking that a change of pressure reg. may well suffice.
Any recommendations on supply?

very helpful and good on price,I paid £54 + vat and carriage for a pattern part the bosch one was around double that.You will need to get the old regulator off to get the correct part number,its a bit fiddly but not too bad,you maybe able to see the number on the regulator by taking a photo with a mobile phone so not needing to take it off first but theres not much room.Good luck,it could be worth a punt.
