Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

For a while now I have been trying to understand why I've been experiencing starting difficulties after an overnight stop on the 205D.

I am posting this in the Citroen part of forum as the Xantia uses the same type of filter, as do many Pugs.

All the symptoms I had pointed to air in the fuel lines.

Here, in the end, was the cause. A pattern...

I'm going to replace my rear spheres at the weekend, please can anyone confirm I need the following part N45368. It's for a HDI Exclusive so hydractive 2 suspension. I've checked the GSF list but see no mention of HDi or hydractive 2, have I missed them?

Also a further question if I may, are the spheres different for HA1 and HA2?

I've already swapped all the other spheres (6 of them) in the late summer so I'm hoping these are still alright. It's also been flushed for about 1500 miles so I'm hoping this will finally transform the ride to soft and floaty when cruising at usual speeds, i.e not when sport mode...

Hi Folks,
love my BX but it sure can be quirky - can anyone suggest what the issue is from the symptoms described below...
My hydraulic pump makes a chuckling noise - not a squeek, or a rumble but somewhere in between. The noise occurs every 10 seconds or so, and lasts from a second or so, up to about 5 seconds, at engine speeds of less than about...

Hi,
Just been scavenging @ the breakers & there's a ZX with genuine citroen roofbars on - no key, unsurprisingly. Only a tenner, so I'd quite like them...

Any posh people out there with these? ;-)
How are these fitted/locked?
Is it possible to remove them without the original key?

Thanks for the leads....

I went back on my way to work, armed with my Allen key box - couldn't appear to get one to fit & the hole was too dim to see what was going on.

Was just about to give up when I noticed a cranked widget lying in the car rear console...

Took less than 5 mins to get them off - much easier than my Thule ones.

All hyropneumatic Citroëns are above average for towing, however you must be aware of the fact that the BX is a relatively light-weight construction for a car of it's size, so don't go towing anything too heavy or with too much wind capture!

Warning light is a good idea - and if the fans are running for any length of time when you're going more than 30 MPH I'd say you'd got problems - as the draft from the forward motion of the car should do all the cooling you need.

The starter has been intermittently not working on the first turn of the key. It has been doing ot on and off for a few months, but this week it filed completely until hit with a hammer.

So I removed it today, and it is in pretty good condition, except the solenoid terminal where the main feed is attached has been overheating (presumbly not...

it seems i'm plagued by water leaks with this car, i've had to fit a new expansion bottle, then a new heater matrix and now it has a leak from where the hose from the radiator goes onto the cylinder head below the fuel filter, the part that bolts to the cylinder head is made of plastic and is secured by three bolts i removed this to find that...

i fitted new strut tops on my old 1.9td xantia but there was a small weep of lhm from the nut that secures the ram through the strut top, tried to tighten it a bit more but it didn't make a difference, i've since changed the car so i swapped the new strut tops over to the new car and replaced the seals in the leaking strut top and all seemed ok...

Thats right Phil,i had my previous Xantia TD done.115 bhp,185 lbft torque.It cost £385 in 2002 from www.vanaaken.com
It was still running fine after 60k odd miles.SteveG has it now.

1.9D non turbo when I set off for the first few hundred metres the car makes a horrific squealing noise. the belt is tight could this be the water pump? A search of this and other boards will show that camshaft bearing failure is unknown (unless there has been a collision between valves and pistons which usually breaks the camshaft and the bearing caps.)

If the noise was there with the alternator belt removed I'd remove the cambelt and examine all the idlers - and the waterpump. Water pump seems...

The xantia that I have bought, 2.0HDI year 2000 has an issue with the blower/fan that I hope someone can help me diagnose!

Symptoms:
Heating/AirCon works, however, the fan is either 'very slow' until the point i move the slider right up to max where I have a tiny bit of control before the fan is blowing at maximum.

Will check the filter as suggested and will wash it too. Transistor probably a bit more tricky - but i will get out my trusty soldering iron and give it a go.

To programme....put a key in the ignition,(you may have to take a key out of one of the fobs) turn on to the first position, press the button nearestthe key repeatedly at the receiver above the rear view mirror, do the same with the second plip. Turn off the ignition, remove the key, open and close the door and nor try each plip. Any problems get...

Alright folks, having looked around on here there seem to be conflicting reports as to wether or not the keyfobs can be coded by yourself (with several plips with key in etc) or wether it is a dealer only job.
Below is a picture of the type of key I have (an RF one),

Can it be reprogrammed by me? Or is it a trip to the rip off merchants :(...

well got a key off ebay, now im just waiting for Citroen to cut me a replacement copy to go on the plip, £25 for the Citroen key + £20 for the plip inc pnp off ebay, not bad compared to the £130 citroen wanted for a new one with a new key

though any one trying to program the infra red type, it may take a couple of tries, dont give up on the first...

Does anyone know a off-the-top-of-my-head price for replacemnt wing mirror glass for the ZX, must be heated?

The windscreen washer filler pipe on my wife's ZX seems to be detached from the tank, it's loose and when I try to fill the tank most goes on the road.

As it's buried in the right hand front wing the obvious thing to do is remove the wing. The Haines BOL gives no info - obviously a half-spanner job. Problem is, I've removed the top row of bolts...

Thats the thing see.My local GSF in in Bristol.Its only about 7 miles away,but its getting there through the traffic.ECP`s is just around the corner for me,so i get most of my parts there as they are usally the cheapest.Peugeot & Citroen dealers are a pain to get to as well. :)

Xantia Hdi 90 year 2000 estate

Briefly my one and only working plip - (I have a non working one) has decided to unlock remotely but not lock. I presume this is dwindling battery power.

I am aware that once I change the battery that this being a radio plip Its an expensive trip to Citroen main dealer.

My 1998 Synergie 1.9TD has recently become a bit sticky when slipping into gear. I went to adjust the clutch cable but it's fitted with the self adjusting type. There appears to be a fair bit of slack in the cable so I suspect the auto adjust isn't working. Does anyone have any experience of the auto adjust mechanism or suggestions about how I can...

it is usualy a sign the clutch is on its last legs,but the idea of pulling the cable is to lengthen the outter cable so as to give you more travel at the clutch fork,so it might disengadge the clutch a bit further to allow to gears in a bit smoother

Hey guys...

i have a big problem, the main supply pipe from my hydraulic pump down to the flow divider at the front burst on my 24v XM on Friday night.

When i last ordered one of these for my last black V6 it took 3 weeks to come from France, and i need this one urgently as my other car is off the road for maintenance work at the moment aswell....

Tailgate lock not working have changed the actual lock and proved the door switch but still not working suspect no signal (12v) being sent from central locking module(BSI) any other ideas as to fault on BSI and how to rectify it?

Quite funny really I was going to post earlier in the week as the clutch cable was getting right to the top of its bite and I wondered if it could be adjusted.

Driving back from work this morning and clutch pedal straight to the floor, so I think clutch cable has snapped. :(

Is this an easy repair, and how much would I be expecting for a garage...

Yep citronut it is steap but it was day after boxing day i was 200 miles from home and no tools so had to pay it.oh at first they tried to tell me it needed a new clutch at £400 including fittin i said ile risk just havin the clip done this was dec 05 and 20,000 miles later its still on same clutch that they said was knacked.

Hi , as I have only been using the plip to open my xantia 1.9 td . the locks on the doors no longer work off the key ( the key just turns ) is there an easy way to fix these . regards john.

my lock works 3 out of 4 times but then the rest of the time it locks solid and i cant turn it either way, is this the same problem,

if i push down and turn it sorta of clock wise it usually sorts it. so before i go stripping it down would this suggest siezed lock or worn lock?

Driving my car today I suddenly lost fifth gear.
Now whenever I try to select fifth it stick jumps into neutral.
Is this a new gearbox job or can I get away with replacing the fifth gear cog?

Any help much appreciated.

PS Car = 197,000 miles other gears seem fine.

Unfortunately this is a common problem on Estate models Robin
The problem is similar (but not exactly the same) as to the BX front door hinges on the A-pillar.
I suggest you make arrangements with a well-reputated bodyshop knowing about this Xantia problem.

Try feeding a LOW (say 3-6V or so) AC signal into the 'instrument' end of the sensor connector. If you don't then get a reading of some sort, further 'downstream' investigation is needed.

My drivers door lower hinge is breaking away from the panel. There is a crack in the panel spreading round the hinge plate where it is welded on and some misalignment has already taken place. Getting in on the other side gets tedious! I think the only remedy is to gain access to the space behind the hinge and weld a patch over to reinforce the...

Hi,

Currently putting interior back together on my Xantia Hdi Exclusive.

Most switches have colour coded connectors so you know which goes where, however the Suspension sports mode switch and the Alarm sensors disable switch are both blue.

A previous owner has it in bits, and I suspect put them back wrong as the suspension switch wasn't...

The 3 that you can see at the back are the corner ones and the anti sink system central one which I ommited from my last description :oops: - the hydractive system has yet another again at the back.

my heater /aircon blower does not blow as hard as my daughters in the same type of vehicle she seems to have another 2 power levels on hers even though we have the same settings.IE my fastest blow is equivalent to two settings below on hers. are the blowers going west can they be repaired.

My 2.0LI vsx (early 155bhp) has developed an intermittent erractic idle, where it revs itself up occasionally when warm. I've got a Citroen Berlingo Multispace Forte, 2000. It doesn't have central locking and unfortunately the locks on the boot and the drivers side door no longer work. Euro Car Parts say they don't sell them, and my local Citroen dealer wants over £200 + vat for locks for both front doors and the boot, which seemed excessive. I'd be grateful...

Morning

I've had an ongoing problem since I got my Xantia last Christmas which I've posted various threads about but still not cured. Through process of elimination I have now come to the stage where it my be internal leakage.

The symptoms are;Regulator cycling at 6-16 seconds apart
Front suspension drops down nearly to bump
stops after 5...

Some times it clicks. Some times it whooshes. By this I mean the sound the pump makes when the car is rising from lowest setting every morning (non anti sink).

wonder if anyone knows waht this could be. I have a 96 Xantia 1.9 TD with aircon. The slider control on the demister to cold inlet to car slider has stuck on the windscreen bit, ie to the right. hi I've just joined the site. I sold my fiat cinquecento last week and bought myself a 1999 xsara 1.4 west coast on wednesday. It cost £650 and seems to be in mint condition. Its a great drive and really comfortable.

the engine oil warning light keeps appearing when i start my 94 xantia 1.9td

it has only started to do this recently, but was only a couple of weeks ago since i put a litre of oil in it.

is this anything to worry about or is it just low pressure with the engine starting?

It’s very common for the oil level light to flash at start-up when the car is parked at an angle.
It’s the orange light at the very right of the top row of lights in the left side cluster.
There’s got to be a bit more oil in the sump than the dipstick’s maximum indication.
Not too much more in a diesel though, the engine may suck the oil in to...

Hi all,

Above has started to crunch slightly when changing into 5th. Sounds like its just clipping really. Can be avoided if I keep the gear stick pushed to the right whilst selecting 5th. Any ideas?

Also, anybody know of any specialists in Manchester?

If it engages easily but crunches especially when cold, the synchro ring is wearing. If its anything like the CX gearbox you can take the end off under the n/s wing and get to it, only mine fired ball bearings all over the place when I took it apart but hopefully the Xantia one being more modern wont.

My trusty ZX ground to a halt the other night, diagnosed by me as no fuel at the carb.

I recently replaced the fuel pump with a 2ndhand one, so immediately suspected that. However, I've just tested the power supply at the pump & there isn't any....

I'm trying to find the fuel pump on my L reg 1.4i ZX - can't see it anywhere near the back of the engine and it doesn't appear to be under the back seat. Haynes not overly helpful here....is it electrical or mechanical for this model?

Having sold my '93 Xantia TD, I've just bought a '99 Xantia HDi SX estate with 97k on the clock.

Aside from what's in the service schedule, what preventative maintenance should I do to avoid known design problems in the future?
