Xantia clutch cable

Post by lexi »

Thought I would change clutch cable to see if it would help chances of not breaking another clip.

I got one from GSF..........but it turns out to be different from the one on the car. Existing one has a gaitor affair in middle section. I assume this is the auto adjust cable?

I know the one I have is manual. Before I trek across the other side of City to return it............are they interchangeable? Can I use this cable and adjust it up?

Given the amount of aggro required to change a Xantia Clutch cable, I'd go for the right one.... I think the pedal spring action is different on manual and auto adjust cables - a manual would probably work in place of an auto, but maybe not the other way around - Citroen saw fit to change the pedal for a reason!

Just to bring this up to date. I have the correct cable. There is a rubbing juddery feeling when the pressure goes on the pedal .

Was about to start stripping the cable etc when I thought to get an assistant to work the pedal inside and see if I could see /hear the friction.

The rubbing and judder seems to be coming from inside the clutch.
When operated and you have your hand on the actuating lever, you can feel it inside bellhousing. This seems to be transmitted all the way back down to the pedal and you can feel it on your feet when pressing.

Yes, I'd agree. For all except the top nylon bush (and that's the one that normally wears) it's a gearbox-off job to sort. These bushes should be replaced at every clutch change but rarely are sadly... A shame as they are dirt-cheap from Citroen.
