Noisy clutch when depressed

Post by oscarloco »

Hi guys

I have a problem with the clutch of the ZX. The pedal seems a little hard and when I depress the pedal, the clutch mechanism sounds like a Caterpillar engine with the clutch depressed. This sound stops when the clutch is released.

I suspect the throwout bearing. What is your opinion?

If its done a high mileage could be that the fingers have worn through. Or - could be the bearing.

Well the car has about 175,000 miles on it so both are possible.

I guess you'll need cheering up now Oscar...

It's not such a bad job to remove the 'box on a ZX.

Ahh yes, I recall well that on a Saxo a while ago. Against that though, you've no hydraulic pipes to get in the way nor a Pressure Regulator to fight with

And no LHM reservior to remove in order to get at the gearbox mount

'Tis about 50/50 at the end of the day

yep spos so,

but i never remove the hydraulic tank when doing a clutch on a xant,
i just undo the two 18mm bolts on top of the box under the chassis rail

Now I do need some cheering up :?

The noise has gone from a mere "whine" some time ago to a louder sound. Well, looking at the bright side, I will have to learn about gearboxes

Thanks to everybody for their help and jokes, at least I laughed some
