C5 driveshafts

Unread post by Paul-R »

I've been following the thread on vibration http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... hp?t=27518 as I think that may be what my car is suffering from.

I recently bought a 51 plate C5 as spares but 2 things are different compared to my 2003 HDi and I'm wondering whether the driveshafts are the same.

First, it's an HPi petrol model. This shouldn't affect the gearbox externally, only the ratios. Am I right?

Secondly, and possibly more importantly, the gearshift pattern has reverse opposite 5th whereas mine has the later box with reverse on a dog's leg to the left next to first gear. I would guess this was to facilitate the provision of 6th gear on later models but does this mean the driveshafts are also different?

So does anybody know for sure? Or am I about to become the expert on this subject?
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Inside every old person is a young person wondering what the hell happened.

Well - the BE box lists different driveshaft part numbers to those for the ML box. Autoboxes list different part numbers to the first two. And 2.2 engines have different numbers again. So it seems there's a big range.
