Citroen published a Info-Rapid on this, the cause is that the motor cover has been overtightened. The remedy is to slacken the screw in the corner of the motor cover (the one nearest to the electric connector) by half a turn.

personally I'd look out for an interior from a VSX (better shape to the seat) or an earlier SX as those seats wear very well.

Yep, as the new owner of Xac's 2.1, that is exactly what I inted to do. Or perhaps the interior from a dead Activa.

The only upside is that mine are bad and therefore I worry not about what the kids might do to them....

That belt reminds me of the time I was talking to someone who told me his mechanic could change cambelts without playing around with tensioners and got it right every time.
It seems he refitted the new belt by levering on using a couple of fairly large screwdrivers..... :shock: :shock: So I'd imagine after a few miles, they could tend to look like...

The Ampére Hours (Ah) is not that important. 66-88 Ah would be sufficient.
Whats more important is the crank power, i.e. the minimum Amperage delivered shortterm at full load from the battery. This should be at least 420 Amps.

You will notice that the price of the battery follows the crankpower - more than the Ah rating.

Neither are daily use cars and are actually a step away from being scrapped.
I'd try a new heat exchanger/cooler before breaking the V plate HDi though
and the P plate is a difficult call as it has a nice/interesting history!

As regards the strange noise from the Acc sphere, I take it the car is pre/non antisink? If so then those earlier models do commonly produce a prolonged whirr-buzz-click noise as the pump recharges the system.

Lacquer lifting sounds like a repaint job.

I take it that it's a non turbo 1.9D, in that case a Lucas pump is not unusual.

From experience with my old fuel pump and return pipe leading from it, id say adding a T section and then running the return from the fuel pump back to the feed pipe, MIGHT take you down the route of a leaky fuel pump / fuel filter housing, as it was my fuel return line from the pump back to the tank that was blocked adding to the high pressure...

The screw IS behind the security shield unfortunately and it is very, very difficult to get the shield off.. I've done it once, never again :twisted:

It is easier to get another pump without the shield on it. Early ECU controlled pumps do indeed exist without the shield. Some P reg 406s are like this

Hi, there is a shunt in the fuses compartment under the steering wheel. The shunt has two possible positions and controlls, whether the cigarette lighter is powerred constantly or only with the ignition on.

Its really easy and doesn't take all that long.
Only tough bit is undoing the hubnut.
Don't think its very good workmanship but I couldn't undo mine jumping on a 5ft bar so resorted to using the cars weight and the floor to do it.

Aha! So the C5 problem is common - wonder why Citroen have not come out and said so (or as mentioned is it because they are unable to fix it)? As for the BX, the exhaust has been thoroughly checked so will concentrate on the rear suspension arm bearings. Thanks for all of your suggestions and info. so far. Definatly worth doing, its a 15 minute job if that, 5 to remove, 5 to clean, 5 to put back. There was crap on the reverse side of the gauze aswell, it just clips in, compressed air would be very handy for this job, as i wanted to clean the actual pipe aswell. Mine had definatly been off before for some reason, maybe for another sender? The ring...

Most veg users report a decrease in engine knock, which suggests, perhaps, that the timing is retarded somewhat when SVO is used.

The pinion valve is a sort of turret that sticks out of the rack and has a flexible coupling on top, form this coupling the whole thing connects to the steering column.

There are 4 x pipes on the pinion to remove the feed, the return and the 2 x pipes to feed the ram.

My guess is the water leak will turn out not to be the water pump, but the pump inlet housing on the back of the block. Not all that much easier to change mind you.... :?

I think I will have to go aftermarket, I've seen a nice sony one with bluetooth link to mobiles, and it plays ipod music, i have a over 3000 tracks on itunes, now to get an ipod, speakers, stereo.

I shall be keeping an eye out for the rear door panels.

Do the front have better panels? The speakers are indeed obscured by the dash when the door is...

Just check the breather hole, used to be in the cap. I have seen tanks collapsed from blocked breathers.

There is someone on Ebay who sells assorted low voltage brushes for power tools. If you measure them he will see if he can match them. Brushes for 12v motors have a different composition to mains types. I have never had the brushes fail on one of those, it's usually the regulator transistors.

you should never try adjustting any of the hight adjustments, untill you have made 200% sure all of the linkage is not siezed and the white nylon links are connected, as these are the usual point which cause problems, none of the adjustments can allter without being loosend by someone

just make sure you use the proper woven wire sealing ring not the one a lot of the cheap skate exhaust shops use, which is just a fibre one as this one breaks up in no time at all,

to disconect the old joint you will need the car up on ramps/stands and two 10mm spanners or one spanner and a long extention with a 10mm HEX socket and ratchet, not a...

I have bought a vegidiesel twin tank conversion kit and as I have just had a look under the bonnet todo some ground work to decide where i am going to put everything. The helpful chap at Vegidiesel Andrew i think his name was, was at a bit of a loss as to where to put the solenoid valves as his car was an older Xantia than mine and does not have...

In some of the TD applications,the turbo is set to boost at 1.0 bar at 3000 RPM. That's not bad for a car in road trim,as it were.

Some of the Saab turbos I used to run were boosting between 0.75 and 0.85 bar with their APC system and they were making up to 175 BHP! 2.0 16valve petrol engine,admittedly.

I changed from veg to corn oil due to price and noticed no difference other than the former smells of chip shop and the latter of popcorn :lol:

On the Xantia the clutch pedal when pressing down had a notch feeling like Anders mentions.

When I changed the fuel filter (couple of years ago this was) the notch disappeared when all the fuel spilled out.

The clutch plastic clip broke middle of this year if its related.

hello howie it was an air lock by the look of it i done 20 miles to day and no flashing red light telling me to stop will take it out for a longer drive so it seems you were right howie thanks mate for the info

The usual culprit is the ignition switch that can’t carry the fan current.
On the Mk II, the circuit is modified with a relay to take the high current off the switch.
If giving it a thump helps, the bushes could be binding, or the brushes are worn.

Thank to everybody who contributed. I've ordered the timing belt kit which is to be here this week. I checked the LDS Level, it took almost a Litre to bring the level up to the Minimum Mark on the tank

Absolutely fantastic toy for nice sunny days. Been dynoed at just shy of 340BHP and goes like nothing else I've ever experienced, would highly recomend one. 8)

New wish bones come with the bushes in place however no ball joint.
The balljoint is upside down compared to most cars it screws directly into the hub carrier and then the pin bit goes through the bottom arm and is secured by the lock nut underneath.
The balljoint is a (-expletive removed-) to do if you don't have heat, impact wrench, 20 metre bar or a vice....

Run mine on a 50/50 mix of veg oil, but it's certainly not as cheap as it used to be. I remember the days when i was paying 40p/litre at Aldi's.

Still, a lot cheaper than fuel costs for my my Mazda RX-7 Twin turbo....200 miles to 80quid! :shock:

My drivers electric window has started to occasionally make a similar noise in one direction only. I wonder if it's related to your probem? Keep us posted please. But I would urge you to give the mechanism a good lubing anyway. I did this to a previous car and it made a world of difference to the action, not to mention to my paranoia about it...
