Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I know this is a long shot but if you don't ask....

I've come across an hydraulic pressure gauge which ranges up to 1500psi. I thought I could test it using compressed air but it doesn't respond and I've been told it will only work on hydraulics.

So question is, does the xantia proved a suitable source for me to test the gauge is actually...

Hi,
The rear NS rear window has stopped working. I can hear the motor trying to do something but nothing happens.
A few days ago when the window was fully open, it would jam when trying to close by tilting slightly, by working back and forth you could get it to close.
Now however, it will not open or close even though the motor is trying to do...

Spoke to Main Stealers, they could not see anything that i was missing, so tried to fit peg which fell into two pieces!!???
Could not convince the peg to stay insitu with the window so resorted to peg and duck tape!! - good old modern technology.

Hi guys.
Got a problem with my synergie. Firstly , after been sat overnight it will struggle to fire up ( not a battery kind of stuggle ) , then after ive been driving a while it sometimes stalls when i slow down for a junction/ traffic lights etc. Then it wil struggle to fire up again unless i leave it a little while.

ive just had the manifold replaced because it did have a bad leak! ( car sounded like tank! ) and it needed a new RPM sensor (as the mech' called it) my mate whos a mech' had aquick look last night and he did say there was a stronger smell of petrol than there should be. It will sit idleing quite happy, so i didnt think it would be the idle...

Accelerator cable on my 97 Xantia TD jammed in the to the floor position the other evening so I replaced it with an older one without the cylinder springy bit. Whether its a coincidence or not the car seems to be running colder - temp guage sits between 70 and 80 - would alway have sat on 80. Mind you revs did hit close to 5K when the cable stuck...

I always ran my 2.1td Xantia hatch on Goodyear Hydragrip and latterly Excellence 205/60-15 tyres with a pressure of 35psi or 2.4 bar on the front. Used to get about 25,000 miles out of them before the outside edge of the nearside tyre started getting iffy and I‘d replace them both.

Ive had a squeak noise from my V6 since purchase, it started to annoy me, in the recent hot weather, as its loud with the AC on.

Both drop links on my V6 need replacing. Shame as they look quite recent but the rubber boots are split :( I don't think the MOT tester will be best pleased with them.

Your fault is not the Oxygen sensor, as that is not even used for the first few minutes after start-up, until the engine is warm enough to run with stoichiometric mixture .

Only 5mins from home tonight and clutch pedal went ping!. It was dark . I managed to turn off engine and select 1st gear. It went on starter and I got home in first gear.

I have just bought a 2003 Dispatch 1.9 and both the clock and fuel gauge don't work. The fuel gauge looks to be powered up as the needle moves to the empty position along with the warning light when the ignition is switched on. The clock is permently at the 12.02 position for some reason.

Hi,

About to replace rear suspension arm bearings on my 93 Xantia (for 2nd time at 370k miles).

I am pretty sure that ABS sensors will not want to come out of the locating plate, has anyone experience of cutting and remaking the ABS sensor cable so that the rear arm can be removed to workshop without damaging sensor?

Does anyone here produce WVO fuel and if so, what filter(s) do you use / can you recommend?

Yep, Vegoildiesel is the place to be :D

I stick it all in a 205L drum and let it settle for a few days, pre filter the good stuff through an Asda smart price pillow case, heat and settle, then finally through a 5 micron sock filter. I try and do large batches at a time so that it's time efficient.

While researching the subject of rear suspension mods I came across a procedure for aligning the rear subframe front mounts which it would appear could be fitted incorrectly if one was unaware that they have to be aligned in a certain way.

I have to say that this was not very clear to me as to the whys and where fores anybody know anything about...

The torque dampers ?

They are there to minimize suspension excursions on the subframe - in that direction they are fitted. One of the secrets in the C5 sublime suspension.
They need to be balanced eqaul side to side on the subframe.

I believe you will need a Citroen workshop procedure to do it correctly, unless you can see if its sort of self...

got a length of pipe into the filler hole and fed it up to my mate at the top of the engine and filled it from there, by gravity :P

I have aleaking front strut on my Xantia HDi 110.I know the strut top is different between Mk1 & 2 Xantia but is the actual strut itself different?

There is an internal leak in the left front strut.I took off the return pipe and there is a definite drip-not huge but a lot more than the other side.Also the front end sinks down over a couple of hours.The car is non-hydractive so I shouldnt have any trouble getting a decent strut if they do interchange.

I bought a replacement horn from GSF today but when I got home I found the connector on the horn is much bigger than the original one. Has this changed and will I have to get a bigger plug connector, although I think standard spade connectors will fit.

I have now got around to resolving the last defect on my C5 purchased back in February, which is the fact that it pulls ever so slightly to the left, not seriously but just enough for one to be always aware of it, generaly at a speed of 50 mph it requires two fingers worth of pressure to hold it straight, the steering wheel left to it's own...

Not veg oil but properly processed Bio should be OK.

I ran mine exclusively on bio for a while as I work next door to the plant producing it and we got a substantial discount on an already cheap fuel.

They had to stop selling it as it became uncommercial for them to continue and they now only run their own fleet on it.

I had no problems at all...

Hi all

I have recently bought a '99 XM 2.1 Turbo Diesel Auto Estate and the Cruise Control does not work - dashboard switch lights up but the Cruise Control does not connect with flicking the lever. Any pointers would help

Shane, the late V6 has an almost flat torque curve from 2000 to 6000 RPM, and with the autoadaptive 4HP20 box it is a real flyer. Mine also does 30+ mpg on long runs cruising at 80+ and averages 26.5mpg over the year so she'll do me. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it :lol:

Having recently unclogged a rather badly fouled C3 1.4 HDi 16V EGR valve I got to wondering about the type of driving most likely to clog it all up again.

I have read that short journeys clog engines up and that a long motorway drive tends to clean them out. My daily rounds lie somewhere in the middle though.

Diesels aren't tested for NOX emissions at MOT time, just opacity (particulates). The NOX levels will be used when certifying the car for production.

If you look at this screengrab you can see the amount of EGR on a 2.0 HDi 110 at idle. Most of the EGR is done at low revs/ low load. Hence the smoke and rough idle when it goes faulty.

My car has the 3030RDS radio and for some reason today it has gone into 'low volume mode'. That is, I cannot turn up the volume to a listenable level. The volume control increases and decreases the volume from inaudible to low.

Dear All

Back on the forum again at last! So much to do to the car, work just not permitting :(. Anyway the good news is that the Citroen Xantia passed its ITV (MOT)... wahey! Despite not being able to fix anything for 8 months or so.

My problem at the moment is that the key got stuck in the ignition.. after alot of wangling, it came out, but...

Interesting question for you all. I have a towbar off of a mark 1 XM that I broke a few years ago that has been nestling with the weeds behind the garden shed and a Mark 2 Xantia that is awaiting sale on the bay of E. The question is, will the towbar fit the Xantia?

My Xsara does have A/C but even so it's very easy to get the rad out. The only difficult part was disconnecting the very small air bleed hose (at the top of the rad to the header tank) where I had to cut the clip off and replace it with a Jubile type clip.

I didn't touch the fan at all but it doesn't look too difficult .

Can anyone tell me what the orange warning light on the right hand side off the dash is? Looks like an acorn with oil in the bottom. I've been told I need to drain the water from the fuel filter but no water has come out. The light is still occasionally on?

Just looked in the BOL and it shows a pic with the shim area nearest the ground and the small tang uppermost. So if you're happy to believe Haynes then that's the way it should be.

To be honest how many people have replaced more than 1 set of rear pads on the same car??

My V6 required new pads AND discs at the rear after 3 yrs and 30k miles... since changing them, the replacement pads and discs show no sign of wear after a further 70k... something was obviously amiss somewhere.

This has been a problem for some.

Initially the engine 'stumbled' on tickover occaisionally, then it would suffer some power loss whilst driving. It only seemed to happen at lower engine speeds.

Sometimes it would cut out as one came to a standstill at lights or give ways etc.

Hi does anyone know where to source an diesel pump for s reg 2.1 td. saw someone was breaking one on here but can't find it?. C5 2003 2.2 HDI Auto, had to come home today courtesy of the AA, they said Crankshaft Pully was on it's way out, is this just a matter of Aux belt off, undo Pully nut , pull pully off, new Pully on, inset nut ,torque up,replace Aux belt, or is it not that simple.
Any ideas for locking the Crankshaft so I can tighten the bolt, it is an Auto.

Picasso has thrown its toys out of the pram and decided to start cutting out. Did it on SWMBO yesterday PM, but by the time I got there it started and ran OK, and after a couple of engine starts the engine light went out, and it drove fine for 15 miles home - even giving it plenty of beans near home. I took it this morning though, and it died...

Hi, Does anyone know possible causes for this fault when it is displayed on its own? My car has had some work done on it and after driving at about 60mph it came up. Have taken it back to the Mechanic but his fault reader does not allow him to enter the menu for this section.

I'm supposed to take the car back to the garage on a weekday so the fault code can be read.
This morning the fault has gone. No message, no lights.

On Saturday the track rod thingy was change, and the error was still there all the way home.

So I think my car is fixed.

That's about the right scenario for a temporary fault somewhere in the ECU...

I have had to put a new clip onto the clutch cable and I took out the drivers seat to get to the pedal. anyway I found under the seat two conectors with nothing conected to them what I am wondering is has these conectors anything to do with the alarm system, and why are they there, car is a P reg xantia, :? :?

Is there anyone with a Lexia that can programme a CD changer to a C5 (2003 Mk 1) in kent (im in medway but willing to come to you) Im buying a changer and really dont want to pay a stealer to do it but would be happy to cross your palm with stirling instead.

Halfords list and sell a fuel filter, the haynes book makes no mention of changing it , it does how ever mention a charcoal canister located under the left wheel arch I am guessing this is what I and presumably halfords call the fuel filter. How often should it be changed?

If petrol C5s have no fuel filter that could explain the apparent common failure of the HP pump.
If the charcoal canister leaks then presumably charcoal granules will end up in the fuel, which might explain why a friend with a vauxhall found charcoal in his fuel filter.

It wouldn't be as simple as the battery earth? Friend of mine had gearbox replaced on an old Peugot 405, and then had starting problems . Turned out they'd not done proper job of ensuring a good earth when refixing earth cable back on to the body.

Was about to change radiator and the condenser and stumpbled upon on yet another connection behind the battery tray once removed.

There was a considerably amount of water in that connector, used air to clean out debris and water..lo and behold, it works so ever flawlessly. :wink:

Hi Gang,

My Bosch VP20 diesel pump on my Xantia would appear to be drawing air.
Having read citrojim's diesel pump stip down and rebuild. Ibelieve the problem probably lies in the distribution part with the seal.

I've spoken to merlin diesels who state Bosch no longer do a repair kit.

Does anybody out there know of anywhere else that does these...

I've finally managed to buy a Seem 105.5 belt tension gauge to accurately set the tension of timing belts but I'm not entirely sure how to set it up so that it reads accurately as when the tool is fitted to the belt the knurled knob can be tightened to achieve any amount of tension or Seems .

When fitting it to the belt I know it needs to be...
