Odd question but have a '00 xantia HDi LX and i can't work out what position 1 is for on the wiper stalk??
I've been told the LX didn't have rain sensitive wipers so that only leaves intermittant with possible variable speed setting?
Because it sure as won't do anything if i just leave it there if its raining or not???
Anybody have any ideas on how to get some sort of intermittant setting as really annoying now that its raining a fair bit?
All other speeds and manual wipe (push down) works fine so don't think the stalk is faulty.

Re: Xantia wiper stalk
Just a short comment on above quote:ellsy66 wrote:... All other speeds and manual wipe (push down) works fine so don't think the stalk is faulty.
In mine wiper stalk failed, only windscreen wash didn't work
while all other functions were available
Here is a pic from mine where intermittent wipe is controlled by a rain sensor.
Hope this helps a bit.

It could be that the relay for the intermittent setting has failed?
Usually this could make the wiper work but not intermittently.

LX car, conventual Intermittent wipers, with NO varible speed setting, so there should be a Intermittent wiper control relay..
Cars with Auto Wipers, as said above, the intermittent AND Wash Timer is controlled through the rain sensor! IF on an auto wiper car the Intermittend AND Washer Park settings DO NOT work its the Rain sensor at fault, or the wires to it. I know this from a recent problem on a HDi SX S2 Xantia.
So, Id guess the Timer Relay is playing up.
