Bottom pulley fell apart on my hdi so have replaced it with new. Refitted the old belt as i forgot to buy another one, belt has about 5k miles on it.
No matter how much tension i put on the eccentric tensioner i cannot stop the belt making a horrible noise on idle! Sounds like a blowing exhaust. The belt is flapping between the crank pulley and aircon compressor on idle, as soon as i pick the revs up to 900 it shuts up. All pulleys etc are fine.
The auto tensioner still seems to be very strong & working fine?! Would a new belt sort this out? Am i losing the plot here as it was fine before change of pulley apart from the clattery sound..

This tends to happen, the new crank pully COULD be slightly smaller, but not much.
You have turned the Eccentric tensionr right round to MAX, this will take up some slack, else the belt has stretched, and a newer one should sort the problem.
