Are you talking of the LP pump in the tank or the HP pump on the engine?

The low pressure pump in the tank is a known weakness. Only real way of knowing is when the ECU starts to close down due to blockage or even lower pressure.

The real nasty telltale is when you see small brass shavings in the filter, fuel lines or tank. By then it is too late and an expensive repair will ensue.

What symptoms have you got?

My low pressure lift pump failed at 155,000 miles and cost £136 at the time from GSF. Easy DIY fix, took about 30 mins.

That's bang on around the same mileage mine (tank pump) failed.
The car would not start at all, just spun over..and iirc the big giveaway was there was no 'prime' noise/whirr from the rear cabin when the ignition was switched on.

Mine failed at 220K I had suspected it was going as it had been noisier for about a week.. managed to get almost halfway home (4 miles) after it cut out when I arrved for my night shift. It would cut out every half mile or so, but got it working again by banging on the top of the pump each time.
Easy job to fix, just had to bend the fuel level sensor slightly to get it into the tank. there's lot of good advice on its replacement on this forum.
