ZX Central Locking Problem.

Post by Rhothgar »

I suppose I have been selfish wanting to keep my Xantia in tip-top condition and on the forum regularly enough not to keep using the 'I'll sort yours when I've got mine sorted' excuse with the missus.

It's worn thin now.

She has a central locking problem amongst other things. Read into that what you will!

I think the fuse has blown a couple of times and she worked this out for herself - allegedly.

Is there a common problem with ZX CL? Only the driver's door is unlocking under the key not central locking and when she needs to open the rear doors she puts her key under the latch and uses a lot of force to raise it. There must be a knack to it because I cannot unlock the rear door catches in this way.

Assuming that she is wrong about the fuse, or even if she not, what could possibly be the problem?

Ideas / thoughts/ comments and quips all welcome.

Seized buttons maybe (early 306's had this too) , although they tend to 'bounce'

This could cause the fuse to blow if they are seized enough to overload the solenoid.

The other 'cause' is broken door looms (again a 306 shared issue) , these can be a right £"$dfs!! to do given the wiring colour (or lack of)

Id go with broken wire or two between the Door and Pillar

Ive been having this problem with a Xsara! Seems to affect the cars with the "Plugged into Door" looms rather then straight hard wired ones.... though high milage xantias have suffered too...

chaps just got the 306 locking problem.. the locks all close then straight away, re-open..

(1998 306 TD 5 door)

I have got the interior light to go out when the front doors are shut, and the boot interior light goes out when boot lid is lowered.. so I am sure the car thinks everything is shut.. (there is no dash light on these)

but still it locks then unlocks straight away.. I have taken every door skin off, and disconnected every lock unit including the boot, but it still happens? (I had to leave either front door units plugged in to be able to try the C locking)

Am i missing something obvious? I thought unplugging a lock took it out of equation.

unless..could a broken wire in the door shuts could the locks to actuate like this and then open again....

hmm... I guess it could.. going back out..

Defenatly a Broken Wire John!

Between the Drivers door an pillar! Unscrew the large connector on the door and pull the gRommet back along the wires...

If NOT the drivers side then on the passenger side

You can give yourself a clue to which side... Inside the car, close the doors, and push one of the door locks if it goes down on its OWN without actuating the locking thats the door side you need to peel back on....

hmm thanks Paul..

well .. i disconnected the large connector on the passenger side and the remaining locks still did it, I did same for drivers side and same result.. I unplugged both back doors at the connectors between pillar and door and tried running each front door lock on it;s own with the other front door disconnected .. still it would not lock...

just kept jumping to unlock..

have i proved that the locks and wiring to all doors is probably ok... I guess I haven't, but I dont know which pillar/wiring combination is the bad one..

gave car back and will investigate further in a few days..

is there a black box that could cause this?

DO NOT remove the plugs to do the Lock Plunger Test, that defeats the object!

Its bound to jump with one or the other disconnected

Dont worry about the rear ones, It does NOT sense if these are locked or not, it only bounces when either one of the fronts are faulty.

So.. Leave ALL plugs connected on the doors, and sit in the car, close the doors and press one or the other... One of them will not operate the lcoking.
