Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

My C5 is just over 18 months old and over the past few weeks I have started to see depolination faulty anyone got any idea what to do to sort it.

Daughter has just passed her MOT with her Clio, ( using this forum as there isn't much action on the Renualt one) the emission reading were;

Test Limit applied 3.00 l/m

Absorption coefficient 2.29 l/m 2.53 l/m 2.83 l/m

Hi, is anyone likely to soon remove a Mk2 1.9TDair cooled xantia coolant radiator please?

if so can you please measure the diameter of the bottom hose connection which would normally be on the drivers side of the car.

my reason for asking is that I want to buy a thermostatic coolant heater that fits in the radiator hose.

I believe these heaters are usually plumbed into the heater circuit so that warm water will both flow into the heater and the engine block...

The thermostat will effectively stop any circulation if plumbed into a radiator hose...

Ok, I'm refitting a CV joint, which I've never done before. I have a new boot kit, which comes with new clips. Probably a stupid questions, but how on earth do you fit these things:

I assumed it would pull on with pliers, but it's way too tight. I have concluded there must be some sort of tool for them?

I'm doing the other side. Is there any way to get the CV joint off without removing the whole shaft and putting it in a vice?

As CitroJim says, you'll have to accept it's going to come out of the gearbox end. Take it off hold it vertically with the CV joint at the bottom and whack it with a rubber mallet, shouldn't take much to get it off.

After the issues I had today with draining the tank via the priming bulb, I thought I'd spend 5 mins and change the passenger side light bulb.

All done, turned the lights on and nothing. (exactly the same as before)
Dipped and Main, both work, just the side lights for the passenger side.

Checked the fuses and the rear tail lights both work fine,...

Hi guys,

decided to have a proper look over the under bonnet area today and everything is extremely clean except for one part.

I am guessing this is an EGR? there is oil covering it and pooling in the cavity below it. Its not flowing and looks like its accumulated over time..

Any ideas?

It's quite often you see a lot of caked muck on those after a few miles. I could take a picture of the similar thing on one of my Activas. An otherwise clean engine but the breather looks like it's wearing an oily fur coat... Diesel ones seem even worse.

Give it a good clean and watch it as Karel suggests. It carries a lot of oil vapour and mist...

Hi all i read a review back along on the latest new fangled merc e class 220 diesel that got a whopping 50+ mpg partly helped by its low energy tires has anyone any experience of such tires and how do they help are they just skinnier? I think in general terms, yes they do work. However, the extra you have to pay to get them is not returned in the fuel saved, so not worth it. I'm sure I saw this in a study somewhere recently. I know that the equivelant Michellin Energy tyre was nearly twice the price of the Toyo Proxes I ended up with.

Hope you can give me some clues how to fix the leak in my 2nd gen. Xsara.

The problem is that MOT failed because of this leak. The leak is coming under the fuel tank. To be more precise the diesel is coming from the front side of the tank. Also, the pump seems very wet from above when...

My Xantia V6 comes up to 10 years old in March, and the Green Flag/Citroen Assist policy I have had since I bought the car will not extend to travel outside the UK after that date.

Green Flag will give me temporary Continental cover but they want well over £200 for 15 days in France, even though I have never made any claim on my policy.

Hi all ive been having a lack of torque and hp problem of late witch can be a little annoying,i can switch car on and briefly the display flashes up eco mod for about 2 seconds and man its as flat as a witches cleavage area.
No lamp illuminates on dash to say theres a problem and if i switch the car off and back on again it will sometimes forget...

Anyone here do any towing (caravaning) with a 1.6 C5 HDI ?. Am thinking about changing and an 08 of the current model is very tempting - budget wise the 1.6 is about as far as it goes though :( . Currently have a 1.9td Xantia so the bhp and the torque on the c5 is higher.

Hav a 2002 C5 2.0 hpi petrol car, which has an intermitant fault with the windows.

It has happened twice, bout 3 months apart, after locking the car using the fob key all 4 windows open bout 2 inches. I close all 4 windows and the car and windows work fine.

If the steering has a stiffish and lumpy type feel, it can ALSO be the UJ joint, just above the pinion valve!

Even with a heat shield they still get warm and can try out the lubrication.. Id look here if you have fitted another pump with no real differences.. unless theres obvious air ingress from a split pipe etc..

it is the front screen washers every time i pull the stick back to clean windows no water but it comes from back?but you got to twist the stick to make back ones work with water with is working ok,so is there 2 pumps in the water bottle,or can it be down to the stick

Hi, it was mentioned a while ago that someone had a pinhole in their heater matrix in their xantia and they used a particular type of sealant to get them by .

I gather there is one make better than most for tiding you over with this problem?

does anyone know what it is called please?

I was wondering if anyone's ever found a set of clear headlights for a Xantia?

I'm considering trying to butcher a set of headlights to fit projectors in there, but I'd need a clear glass bit or the light beam will go everywhere!

I know about the legality of it all but with projectors and clear glass the light beam should be good and...

Can anybody tell me how to tell the difference between a 6+2 hydraulic pump and a '6 sucker' pump?- I'm trying to help my brother find the correct part number for the front offside suspension sphere supply pipe on his 94 1.9D - the part no. given on 'service citroen' from the vin no is 5270EC, and this is the same as the part no that his local...

My lad has just come in complaining of a smell of oil in the car. I have just had a quick look (it's dark outside) and there looks like a leak just to the left (looking at the front of the engine) of the exhaust manifold. Any suggestions? The annoying thing is he was going to try and sell it in a couple of weeks!

That's wierd - I cleaned the oil off with the jet wash, my lad took it for a run and now there is no oil weep! It's definately not the rocker cover because that is bone dry all round. He has taken it to work today so I will just wait and see. Thanks for your help.

As requested from brmartyn, here's the pictures of the XM Exclusive that I am bringing home from Malaysia. The car is owned by a fellow Citroen enthusiast over there.

It started it's life in England and was taken to Malaysia by it's one and only keeper from new in 2004. So it was a british registered car!

My AX diesel stopped a few weeks ago (luckily on the drive) due to lots of air getting into the pump. I've got a Lucas CAV system. At the back of the fuel filter head there's a blue plastic plug which was loose and leaking fuel. I removed this to find that the only thing holding it in place was some glue. Just wanted to let you know that I took delivery of my Xantia Activa S2 from XantiaMan ( Gareth ) YEsterday afternoon and am pleased as punch with it.

Hi all,

I have a 98 Mk2 1.9TD (with aircon) Xantia and i've noticed again the auxilary belt (the one that drives the alternator) seems to have jumped a tooth again towards the engine. So as you look at it the right hand edge/tooth of the belt is sitting over the edge of the pulleys and this edge of the belt is slightly fraid.

HDi cambelts can and do break, what I meant to say, HDi engines do not break the Cam Shafts!! But im un-certain if the cam shaft has to come out to get at the rocker fingers - in which its these that break...

My sons car was hit by a clown speeding around a roundabout. A shame, because it was in good nick for it's age, doing all my son wished----economical as hell,comfortable, and with the HDi 110 engine, a great puller with caravan on the back. Obviously a write off.

Our recently acquired (for free) Berlingo is playing up in another way now.
On the trip back from England I noticed the occasional 'flat spot' where it appeared to slow down and be struggling to pull very well, obviously much more noticeable going uphill. Going out in it today this condition was much more pronounced and seemed to happen more...

My 2002 C5 manual is very sluggish below 2000rpm, when the turbo seems to cut in. I reckon my old 2CV has more poke! There really is nothing there regardless of gear. In fact I have stalled this car numerous times when pulling off, a problem I never had with my faithful 1.9D BX estate.
Could there be a duff sensor or somethng sticking?

I took the carpets out of my Xantia yesterday after realizing I had water in the foot well again.

All going as planned until I noticed this connector in the front passenger foot well.

As you can see it is quite corroded. 1 wire came away when I touched it so I used a small connector block to join them together again.

Apart from a brake bleeding kit are there any other unusual tools required for C5 brake fluid change?

Someone on this forum mentioned that Lexia is required for a proper C5 brake fluid change - is this the case?

According to my local citroen indy, lexia is needs to depressurise the system. As when low is selected in a C5 it doesnt go into fully low. Though i can only go on what ive been told.

Hi All

Simple one I hope.

Using Hazard light switch on centre of dash (red button) lights flash, indicated in instrument binacle but the red switch doesn't flash.

Is it meant to? If so how does one remove to replace bulb?

Yes it should flash. Only the small triangle lights, but it does flash when your using the hazards. It also lights when your headlights are on. Does yours?

Not sure how you would go about replacing the bulb, might be a new switch.

Right, after taking the Xantia in for its Citroen MoT yesterday it has failed on the following points:

1 Offside and Nearside front suspension arms have excessive play in a pin/bush
2 NS steering rack gaitor split
3 Parking brake has no reserve travel
4 OS/NS front brake discs are excessively worn
5 OS/NS front brake pipe inadequatly clipped...

In your case, the connector is in use under the seat as your seats have partial electric adjustment.

Look under the oddment tray and see if there are the two yellow plugs present as shown in Mikes pictures above. They are present in my MK1 V6 even though I have no seat heaters. If the plugs are there, they'll be wrapped in foam and...

I'm getting on the ball with this Lexia now.

I decided to read the codes off the missus HDi and see if i could figure out any reasons for it smoking or generally being a pain in the ass.

Here's what I got from it:

ABS ECU:

Intermittent Fault - Safety Relays

this is quite usual Fault on HDis with the Eberspächer aux heater. You cannot diagnose it with Lexia, but the engine ECU always give that Fault. So just ignore that one. If you have the glowplug-auxillary heater, than you should take care of it :-)...
