rear end rattle

Unread post by citroenxm »

Hi all..

Car in question.. Xm S2 2.1 td auto hatch..
Car came to me for a routine check over and fit some spheres.. Rear spheres, all 3 thats the two corners and a centre sphere were ordered from AEP Glasgow.
I got them fitted and all seemed well.. For about a week... The owner then started complaining about a rattle comming from the rear.. The spheres were date stamped with 2010 so were new. So we got under the car and looked about.. I found what looked like a loose connection between the strut and arm fixing point so set about changing the rear arm and strut.... After re fitting everything the rattle remained... Cause?? It turned out to be the spheres!!!! Really!!

I put some older 2003 spheres on and way hey the rattle went away.. Im not sure why but its not the first time ive experianced this.. I had it about fout years ago on a front sphere on a xantia..

That's odd Paul :-k

Can't think what could cause that unless one of the corners was flat...

Strange...

That's a strange one Paul, sounds as though there is some air trapped in the sphere - can't understand how though. What a pain having to do all that work!

Wonder if it's a loose damping element?

They were far from flat as the car had a beatufully nice ride.. Smooth and soft...

Yes the ride is just as good.. It WAS the spheres... Had the same on a xantia... That too was a sphere..
