Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

The sun is going down on my spares Xantia-literally I need to reclaim the space in front of my house again.

I didn't bother salvaging the hatchback or the attached paraphernalia, and this went with the shell when Elvis took it away with his hiab.

I guess the boot solenoid should be well crushed by now :)

If you had spotted this earlier I would have been happy to extract the bit you wanted.

Hi guys,

As stated in the title my C5 clutch is about to go because the car has started to over rev when pulling away and changing gears.

It needs doing and before i go to a garage i would like to get an unbiased view of how much i can expect this to set me back to put right.

Mr Clutch gave me an online quote of £315 - parts, labour, vat, 2...

thats it got it changed and all good.
got the solid flywheel and clutch fitted this week and have now tested for couple of days and to be honest the only difference i have noticed is slightly more power BHP is that even possible?

no excessive vibrations, noise ; can't tell the difference.

Had the dreaded mot test on my Xantia today, got myself all prepared for a big bill (like i usually seem to get for my mot,s) but lo and behold she went straight through no prob,s not even so much as an advisory notice to worry about!! RESULT!!
50 plus mpg motoring plus cheap and hassle free mot, cant be bad!!

Hi,

the unlock button on my xantia S2 ignition key has disintintegrated and my spare key which seems to be all intact but hasnt had a battery in it for a very long time doesnt seem to want to arm or disarm the alarm on the car even with a new battery in it.

I'd like to know please is there a special sequence that has to be performed to...

Maybe its worth popping down to one of those little key cutting places and finding out if the remote is still transmitting? The transponder is obviously still communicating with the car.

Dunno bout the young but makes them fly for longer I'd say :P

Hi All.
I have a developing problem on my S2 V6. When running from cold the motor will 'sometimes' just cut out dead... very disturbing at junctions and of course dangerous.. I'm thinking temp. sensor! any advise/thoughts etc would be gratefully received..

Hi
Is there more than 1 sort of screen fitted to the mk2 xantia ? I have finally found a secondhand screen from an LX spec car does that have auto wipers ? If not does it cause me any problems ? I think i read on here that i can cover the sensor over and it will give me intermittent wipers ?

New screen finally installed ! I am now £100 poorer but now dont have a crack about 1 1/2 foot long !
I have put the rain sensor back inside the mirror housing and all seems ok, It now has an intermittent wash wipe which maybe be better than the auto any way ! We will see how it goes !
Quick question did LX cars have tinited glass as i thinkthis...

It appears that my instinct was right, in that the Feu Vert in Huelva had incorrectly filled the system.

I went to another Feu Vert in Seville that i know are good- they refilled it and hey presto! A very grateful english man able to drive his car without stripping down to his pants with the windows wide open :D

Not having any joy with the £18.50 supplier - he's just not clued into selling to anyone outside the UK. :roll:

I pulled over to find the engine bay undertray (does it have a better name?) dragging on the floor as the rear bolts had gone missing. I undid the front bolts and removed the tray. In my 2001 xantia there is an electric plug that is connected to the motor (Bosch). the plug and the socket are of 9 pin (is it with the anti pinch?) but onle 5 pins are actually conncted. from what I've seen, pins 1,3,4,5 & 8.
I would like to know what is the assignment of each pin. could you help my out on this issue?

When I connected my Lexia 3 to my Citroen Xantia 2.0 16v make year 2000 I read the following fault: “Display serial supply short to earth or open circuit”.

It's the input speed sensor, a device that's inserted from outside the gearbox near the speedometer drive.

I have had this one; checked for continuity and it was OK so I cleaned both halves of the plug with a generous spray of Servisol contact cleaner and reassembled. Been fine since.

Just noticed that the hazards on the car are not working.

Had a search on here and found that the hazards are triggered by making both indicators flash at the same time.

Indicators both work without issue, and stop working when the hazard button is pushed.

Have checked the fuse feed for the hazards and there is no power there.

Got it sorted, well sort of.

Added a 12V feed to the input side of the fuse for the hazards. Only a temp test, but possibly worthy of FMB membership. :lol:

Touched the other end of the wire to a live circuit and hey presto hazards working.....

Obviously going to do a proper repair over the weekend, but glad I know what needs to be done....

If you're removing the EGR valve it would be best to also remove the pipe to the inlet manifold and clean that out.

The best thing to use to clean up an EGR valve is Wynns EGR3 aerosol spray.

You can get it from GSF.

Evenin all,

Finally going to sort my osf abs sensor out tomorrow,my mot man will be pleased..(he's passed it twice,but he wasn't best charmed last time!).

Haynes says disconnect the battery negative lead.

Why? Will it spike something or other? (yes,electrics aint my forte').

I can't remember now how I tested the sensors,ie,battery on or...

no no i know Xac, what i was trying to realay is you should not use an ohm meter on anything with current up it :wink: ,

also if the battery in you meter is dead it wont work on the ohm setting,

Hey Peeps... whilst in Helfrauds yesterday evening I attempted to purchase a Drivebelt for my '95 1.9td vsx estate with no aircon. When the chap asked me which hydraulic pump was fitted I was completely cafubbelled.... Just got my C5 2.2 HDI Exclusive with Navidrive 07 plate yesterday, very pleased with her, so many toys.

The maps say 2008/2009 on them, do i have to go to a main dealer for updates or are they available on the internet for download?

Also its got all its main dealer service stamps, is it really every 20,000 miles for oil changes on these modern...

My Td xantia is running on veg at the moment and i have noticed that the veg oil is coming out of the pump i can see it runnung down the engine :( The chap i bought it from says that it did it befor and that the problem is the return fuel pipe to the tank is blocking, he says that if i run it on just diesel it will be fine again ! Has anyone else...

hi,
sorry for posting this in here but it's the busiest place and very helpful.so, I have a peugeot, yes I know im in citroen, but it's a 2.0 hdi and I bought this fuel saver from e bay 190524061185.... It says to fit directly to the fuel pipes but my knowledge is zilch..... under the engine cover the fuel filter appears to have a few pipes going...

The stuff I used was made in a factory unit on the estate where I work. It was initially produced for that company's own vehicles but offered for sale at a heavy discount over standard diesel to people working on the estate.

Initially made from WVO but later from SVO (Rapeseed oil) when WVO supplies became problematic for the volumes...

Just A-B'ing my car and a C5 wagon today in the course of some Lexiation, it seemed the steering wheels looked and felt remarkably similar.

This could be my solution for the daggy grey one, covering of which is getting a bit soft and twisty on the rim steel, as a similarly plain leather bound unit is on some facelift C5s.

Any thoughts on...

Hi All

I did post this on the aircon forum, but dont seem to get replies there.

as follows:

I have had problems with my Citroën's Harrison V5 1135253 compressor. The original was leaking from the joint between the two halves. So last year I replace it with a second hand one- which had the same problem!!

This year I bought a brand new one for...

You cant really unless you illegally let the gas go by opening the valve... Same as a tyre valve... I guess thats no different to a leak... They would vac it out first anyway to determin a leak anyway....

As per my apologies thread , looking for some help regarding the non working horn on my Xantia.

Checked the horn and its working, just not getting 12V required to make it work. The volume controls on the steering wheel work, so hoping its not the ribbon with the wheel itself. (but looking to remove the steering wheel this afternoon - battery is...

Due to being sideswiped by a non-stopping driver, we need near-side door trims with chrome inserts (front and rear) and wing mirror for our '97 1.9td LX Xantia.

Is anyone is scrapping/breaking a Xantia, (pref. dark red, but anything accepted) with these parts intact?

If you don't manage to get the 'chrome' bits, there is a guy called Brian Pimmer that supplies new stainless steel side trims.
He is always at the Citroen meetings and frequents the XM forums IIRC.

Went in for replacement windscreen yesterday, since picking car up, I've noticed wipers are defaulting to about 4 seconds on the Auto setting.

Tried pressing hard against screen, no joy, held against mirror and all worked well...

Ideas?

It needs bonding above the air intake to prevent water running down the screen from running under the panel and straight into the air intake and thence straibght under the passenger footwell carpet...

There is a special deflector above the air intake on the trim...

I'm thinking of getting myself a chinese clone Lexia 3. The kits are variously described as including CD/DVD for the software. I have a likely contender for the laptop, being an old Windows 2000 machine, but without a DVD drive, only CD. I can install the software from a network drive but what I really would like to know is if the software...

I'm working on that at the moment.

I originally tried to reprogram a S/H key fob after getting a blade cut and changing it over. That didn't work of course as the transponder chip is a one time programmable device.

I managed to buy a new transponder chip but in the meantime my beloved wife...

... the main accumulator can be checked by listening to the interval between pressure regulator ticks when the engine is idling. Anything less than 30s between ticks means the accumulator is a bit low...
It was long ago when I checked the intervals and last weekend checked it.
Four consecutive readings of 24 secs made me buy a new accumulator...

On my 2001 Xantia's AL4 gear selector, the knob is disintegrating, the outer black layer has fallen apart and now there is the inner core of it. I would like to ask how do I dismantle it from the metall rod that it is installed on, so that I will be able to replace it?

You have to pull it quite hard but I did it with bare hands, without use of any tool, so I think that the 1/4 turn is avoidable.

So I had an entertaining trip back from my friend's place today.

Not much happened when I put my foot down, and there were really noticeable surges in power at high revs. Only just got up to 70.

Initially thought it was down to the 20 litres of WVO I bunged in there on top of the diesel fumes I had left over and the pump having a hard time with...

My theory was correct, new fuel filter and she drives like normal again.

So there we go, good example as to why you should always keep a spare fuel filter and tools to change it in the car if you're wanting to run on some nice smelly fuel.

Should probably check the pickup mesh eventually, but I'll add that to my I'll eventually get to mending...

Is there any actual purpose of this being fitted to the car ?

Yes, it was fitted as standard and I believe (no proof) that it was an emission control device to guard against exactly what you like - rapid acceleration. This will make the car produce more smoke under some circumstances and the damper will, to a degree, suppress this.

The w/screen washer water bottle on my V6 seems to need a clean, it does not fill easily,.. & it smells, is there something on how to remove/ clean the bottle on this site or can someone explain please?

A tip I picked up;- To stop the smell occuring in the first place, dilute the screenwash as little as possible. I chose ones that can be used neat.

Right, I'm going to just get them all out in this thread... Minus the Rad-Fan one which has a thread of it's own!

Yesterday, I was in second gear and stuck my toe down expecting the usual jet-plane thrust as the rev counter touched 4,000RPM... Nothing... The car virtually refused to move... I was half way past a slow moving car when it happened...

Ride height:
Make sure the height corrector linkages are well lubed and not seized, also that the dog bones are tight and you're not able to wiggle/rock/roll them.
Also make sure the pip on the side of the manual adjust linkage is dead centre of the square hole on the corrector arm. If it's not, slacken the 8mm bolt holding the clamp on the manual...

Thanks for the help on this thread the basic subject of which was removal of a power steering rack from my Xantia

Xantia ressurrection? the difficult bit

I have already taken a rack out of the xantia I have just dismantled.

Having half the car dismantled helped make the job easier-the steering column for instance just came out in one big bit...

The steering rack is off. Took off the wishbone, bit of a pain to get the anti roll bar end to pull away from the anti-roll bar and the subframe. Tried to get away intitialy with taking the bolts out of the inner end alone hoping that I could drop this down to get the rack out, but had to free the ball joint and remove the wishbone completely in...

1.9, 2.0 or 2.1.

The way I see it with my limited mechanical knowledge is:

1.9 for:
sturdy, bullet proof, easiest to work on, plentiful supply of cheaper parts and will run on bio/veggie.

against> a bit agricultural now, noisy..ish, ponderous...ish, not as economical.

2.0>for: Quieter, more economical,quicker, reliable.
against> Doesn't...

Hi, While driving my Xantia 1997 td . today , I had a sudden loss of power ,
The accelerator will go straight to the floor with little power . when you get it up to 70 m.p.h. it s fine and drives ok . could it be the accelerator cable or maybe the turbo ! any help gratfully received

Yes there should be a circlip round the cable end which allows you to take out the slack, it fits in the appropriate grove for your adjustment. You cna possibly make one by cutting the side out of a washer.

Hi, been thinking the clutch on the c5 is a bit high at the biting point. Am I correct in thinking there will be no adjustment? It's not slipping but done 100k, I have had car for 3 yrs and done 50k of these miles, a few of them towing. Am in the middle of a debate whether to change this car, or keep it forever. Depends how much you like the car and how reliable / good its been to you. :) , I'd say keep it for a few more years myself.

I would advise a replacement solid flywheel if possible though as you'd probably need a new (expensive) DMF at clutch time anyway, it is reasonably likely. A solid one should not need changing again where as a DMF one might...

I would not normally recommend kwik fit, but they have a regassing service that is around £50. If the machine finds a leak they do not charge, and also if they do not improve the system by 10% they do not charge either. As long as the operator puts the correct car details onto the machine its does all the work, leaving the grease monkey well away...

The clutch pedal on my daugters 03 reg 1.4 petrol C3 is sticking for a second or two near the top of its travel when released. The pedal is generally smooth in action. While it is temporarily stuck the accelerator can not be pressed which originally made me think of a broken pedal box but on inspection the accelerator is electronic and seperate...

Most places like kwik fit charge £45 but if you can wait til the autmn/winter it is only £25
They're fine if there are no leaks or problems, and they won't charge if they find a leak, but they aren't able to rectify any faults.

hi all have a problem with c5 estate back of the car seems to hop to the left when turning off of a roundabout near to me not going fast ie 20mph feels like the back comes unglued from the road cant see any leaks from hydraulics spheres are as old as the car 10 years old 132000 miles tyres are ok and replaced arm bearings both sides last year am...
