C5 Aircon flap motor - long spline

Post by KevMayer »

In the photo below there's an aircon flap motor with a long splined shaft.

The standard motor is the one on the right which has a short spline.

The motor with the long spline is a mod and can be fitted if the splined hole in the flap chews up and the flap stops working.

So, does anyone know where the long spline version can be purchased. Citroen tell me it's not listed on their system.

The long splined motor replaces the short one, and may have the same part number, :? but the old short ones have to go first.

Judging by the plastic mouldings in the picture, it's not just the spline that's changed, the insides have been re-engineered as well.

Are they from the same OE manufacturer (Valeo?)?

The new motor 6447 TK is £69.01 + vat from Citroen main dealer.

I've ordered one.

Thanks Clogzz and Wheeler.

editted: Eventually realised I'd done a typo on the part number. the one above is now correct - sorry for confusion

Long spline motor fitted and the temperature control on the passenger side is now working properly.

This is interesting, as i have been wondering about these motors and their failings.

Ive noticed with most C5s ive had that with the climate set to the desired temp after a while the temperature fluctuates, usually getting colder. I had thought this was to do with the flaps not working properly, but im not so sure now?

Ive also had one C5 with the above problem, the passenger side would be on extreme heat when the climate is set to 16 with AC on and the drivers side is nicely chilled. So this fixes that, but what about the climate control not keeping its set temperature?

I have the same problem on my C5, a 2007 model, only cold air coming through on the passenger side.

I've removed the glove box to gain access to the flap control motor, only to find that there are two identical motors fitted, one directly above the other.

Which of these operates the temperature control, and what is the function of the other one?

The lower right one as seen through the glove box does the temperature.
The top left one does airflow.

Is this actually the case, or a subjective impression? There will undoubtedly be some fluctuation due to hysteresis in the control system, but that should not be noticeable. I wonder if it's more a case that one appreciates the nice warm air initially, then gets used to it; as the set temperature is reached, the system reduces the temperature of the airflow to stabilise the cabin temp, which is then perceived as a cooling effect. The best way to check would be with a digital (for fast response) thermometer.
Bear in mind, though, that Citroen specifically state that the displayed settings are not intended to represent temperatures, but 'comfort levels', which sounds to me a bit like a getout!

I finally got round to investigating the fault with my C5 dual zone heater only to discover that the flap control motor was ok, but that the splined plastic recessed part, blue in colour, which operates the flap had sheared off and dropped in to the heater box when I touched it.

Is this part replaceable or is it an integral part of the heater box?

If it is replaceable can it be done in situ or does the heater box have to be removed and what does this entail?

Don’t know if the flap comes separately, picture of the heater box in this topic:
http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... 12&t=37424" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Seen a story that the flaps are openings in a cylinder turned by the spline, and has friction from foamy air seals.
Picture of a dash out job, with the heater box firmly fixed to the tunnel.
