Morette headlamp conversions

Unread post by davewithington »

Anyone ever used or seen the Morette twin headlamp kit for the Xantia. It looks good to me, and would probably solve the poor lamp performance.

The difficult bit would be finding a Morette system as they are no longer available for Xantias and the cost of the lamps were/are prohibitively expensive.

I had been working on a set of lamps for converting Xantia headlamps albeit using more cost effective Hella or Ring sealed lamps. I lost the prototypes in the workshop fire but I will be looking at remaking the system again in the future and if it works well I will consider offering conversion kits using more modern technology.

Wash the headlamps
Fit the relay mod
Fit decent bulbs
Adjust the beams

What poor lamp performance? :)

I don't think I've ever seen any in the flesh, or pictures of any in the UK. Here's some I found on Google:

Don't know what's going on with that hideous car above...

No morettes, but this caught my eye - IMO looks a smart car...

Still think this XM is such a mean looking car with the grille and lights...

Got a couple of sets of CX Morrettes here, lights were very good when fitted too. Didn't use it much at night though.

Moretts are the business in my opinion, far better lighting than any standard Xant or XM no matter how much spit and polish you throw at them, and of course, they look cool 8-)

I've love to get a set of morettes for the XM Prestige as they'd look great. I've been keeping a look out on Leboncoin/eBay.Fr but they are very expensive on there...

If you don't mind me asking Dean did you opt for the buying through Morette or get lucky on eBay.Fr?

Regarding this XM grille as well...

Looks like they've removed the centre bar and chevrons, anyone got any other pics of this car?

No, back in the days before mortgage and child i went direct to morette, couldnt find anything secondhand, i did make up a grill like that but it looked a bit wrong somehow especialy with the number plate fitter and from a higher view point like standing up, they ave tried to make that black one look better than it does i suspect by removing the plate and taking the picture from a low angle.

I thought you might have done Dean... I'll keep an eye out, some normally crop up in the end...

Interesting, and I see what you mean. Something to bear in mind... Thanks.

As Xac says, wash them and do the relay mod.

I wanted a set of Morettes for my first XM. It was a series 1 and the headlights were woeful. I found some, but the cost was more than I paid for the car!

Got plenty of voltage at the headlamps, and have fitted Osram bulbs, much better, but only adequate when compared to a pair of 7" Cibie Iodes !

I must say the lamps on this Xantia are much better than the last one, which had relays and decent bulbs as well.

There just isn't enough spread with the original lamps.

Morette will make me a set on a three week delivery, at £335, which really isn't a bad price in comparison with other cars - the four headlamp conversion for my wife's MX 5 is more than that.

I'll probably have a set when my pension payout comes through.
