Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

As we all probably know... I've had no end of troubles with these little blighters... So, here's the story.

With the engine running, up to about 95'c the fans don't work... There's a lot of stop light flashing with the temperature light, but nothing else. When the engine reaches about 100'c, the passenger side fan would come in, on short bursts...

Hi, the tyres on the rear of my Xantia are wearing on the inside edges . They have never been on the front of the car . What would cause the wear on the inside edge ? Cheers Terry

I'd go for rear arm bearings as well. On my BX it was very obvious that they were on the way out, on my Xantias no so. The last time I changed a set there was no sign of the / \ effect and it was only a tyre wearing in a funny way like it does when you have a faulty shock absorber that alerted me to a problem. Have just done the modification to the tailgate wiring on C5 estate and now the micro switch incorporated in the latch release housing has went defunct,,does anyone know if the switch can be sourced from anywhere other than the main stealers?

Ive seen one for sale locally, its an HPI 2.0L Exclusive hatchback with 80K miles I think on it, its an 02 plate.

it comes with plenty of MOT, so its only just passed it in the last couple of months.

Should I avoid the 2.0l hpi? Ive just been doing some searches and people dont like them. they cant all be bad can they?

When I switch any of my indicators on, left, right or hazard warning... There's sometimes a delay in them flashing. Sometimes, they stop flashing, then start again.

Is this due to the hazard warning switch?

Try breakers yards too, I'd imagine 806/Despatch/Expert from the same year and before would use the same system, but I'm not certain.

Hi guys, wonder if anyone can advise me? I have a Xsara Picasso 2.0 HDI MPV and when i set off in first gear the car judders. I have put the handbrake on and tried driving off whilst its still on and the clutch does not slip. When it's driving it seems fine between gears but it seems to have a little vibration when the clutch pedal is pressed in....

Hi, recently I noticed that my radio was becomming difficult to tune.

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of this problem in their xantia?

some one has suggested that the aerial lead may have pulled out of the back of the unit but I am confused as to how this would happen unless it became dislodged when I recently changed the heater...

Hi all,

Are petrol and diesel zorst back boxes different?

Bought one off ebay ages ago for £7 all in,as no one else bid.
Upon receiving it the box is 4 shorter and a lot thinner than my humongous hdi jobby..(couldn't tell in the ebay pic). Oh well, not fussed as it was for nowt really!

After putting all the rear bits back together I took the car out for a spin on Friday night. It still seemed to have strange things going on at the front. So I thought I'd remove and strip the front HC to see if there was gunk in it or if it was rusty or I'd rebuilt it incorrectly.

As per the title, yesterday afternoon the C5 wouldn't start for my wife when she was down at the shops. When I came home I tried to start it and, after nearly flattening the battery, failed so we towed it back home. Left the battery on charge and tried again this morning before leaving for work and it still was nott playing ball.

I really don't know what starter it has on. What you're saying, however, chimes with an observation I've made that the engine doesn't seem to spin over as fast as the Xsara's does. And, although it's not been a pronblem yet, I get the feelling that repeated attempts to start on the C5 would exhaust the battery quicker than Xsara.

Xantia diesel 1998 the front is much higher than the rear when engine is idling when you press the lever the front comes down but front rises

Hi Guys,

It's around 2 - 3 years since I last changed a set of Hydractive Spheres...

It was on our Series 1 Xantia V6. I remember having problems removing one of them from the car. A centre sphere rings a bell but I might be wrong.

In the end our local indie changed it for me. He did something to depressurise it and it unscrewed easily by...

Hi, I have just fitted a new gaiter to my steering rack. What a job ! After much effort, I squezzed on the gaiter but cannot get it to sit on steering end , I get one half on then the other slips off! so Iam unable to cable tie it . Anybody got any ideas, cheers Terry

Hi All,
Managed to remove these little wire b's with a pair of pliers and a screwdriver but how the heck do you refit them? Haynes describes the use of water pump pliers but this is not working for me - polite suggestions please!! These were obviously not designed for ease of removal/reinstallation so I have given up for now & and enjoying a...

Hi guys need your invaluable help once more.

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere, had a quick look round but couldn't see it mentioned?

Rear ARB clamp has broken, well the thin metal rod has corroded and snapped.

Couldn't figure out why the car would only sit high (in jacking pos) or low with no other inbetween positiosn available on the rear....

Got round to sorting this issue out yesterday.
Ordered a new ARB clamp and height corrector rebuild kit from Martin @ Pleiades. Kit includes diaphragms, sealing rings, and dust covers.

Haven't quite got the ride height spot on (little too high), but the main thing is the car is now functional again.

What is the manufacturers fuel consumption figures on this car mine is a 97 P reg model, but i am getting between 58 and 61 mpg on a long run, any ideas, thanks :shock:

That's very good :D I don't know the official fuel consumption figures but back in the day when I had a 405 1.9 GRD (normally aspirated) 55 mpg was easy and the norm. If I really tried I could get it down to 52-53mpg.

My undertray was held up with bolts fixing into metal moveable thingies. Alas fell off on the rlad barr one. Thing is the replavements look like flat push ins which I can't see working.
What are the fixings I should use?

The original fixings are the push in pin type things. Turn them one way and they fix (kind of) and another they will come out.

All too often after I have had them off I hear a pinging down the underside of the car as one pin falls out.

I have since bolted them in on the 110 C5, I take it off every 6 months to do an oil change so they dont have...

Now, I'm not a small lad, and I seem to have lead in my bones*, at over 20stone (but dropping slowly) when I sit in Cassy's driver's seat (set at high), it drops down half way.
Both screws on the side of the lever are tight as can be.
Anyone of a similar mass have the same issue, or better still not have the same issue?

Hi, just wondered if anyone know the procedure to remove a synergie climate control panel. The backlighting has died so the temperature display is unreadable. I'm assuming it's a standard panel lamp that I need (any idea what type?). But until I can get the panel off without breaking something I'm stumped.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing! :shock:

The multimeter will tell you the alternator voltage output and read the voltage condition of the battery but these are only indicators.

You need an ammeter to read the current output of the alternator and a discharge tester to tell you the condition of the battery under load.

Hi,

Time is finally running out for the flashy airbag light on my Fathers Mk1 Xantia 1.9TD VSX Dashboard, he has decided that he would like the airbag light distinguished for good and is not prepared to fork out to repair the airbag system.
I have the instructions ready from BXman to extinguish the airbag light as I have already done on my Mk2...

Car is a year 2006 C5 HDi VTR Estate. The undertray eventually shed all its front fixings and local speed bumps have done the rest. There are a few C5s breaking on eBay but mostly 2002-03. Before I ask them if they have the undertray does anyone know if it will fit my car or were there any changes with the 2004 facelift?

A 'trapdoor' a la Xantia would have been great, can't imagine why they weren't designed in.

Also, they should slot in at the front, less air resistance to rip them out.

I thought I had cured this leak but it has come back to haunt me.

I have a leak from my bottom right outlet port on my Bosch EPVE pump 0 460 494 427 601 - 2. I have replaced the copper washer and swapped over the outlet port to another one as a process of elimination. I have tightened it right up with a ring spanner to the point I don't want to...

Hi all ive had an ongoing fault with my 2001 c5 hdi where it has suffered from poor performance and used maf after maf ,at its last fault reading an egr fault showed up.
Would a bad egr valve ruin my mafs? After clearing all codes it did the usual and went back into limp mode after a while,my local garage said citroen would sort it by there usual...

so should the vacuum be there from start up and should the egr be closed until 1000rpm?
Also do egr valves tend to fail mechanically or is it likely to be full of carbon etc ?

Well without knowing how the engine is mapped one can't be 100% sure but I believe that at 1000 rpm the valve will be closed or very close to being closed....

In a sudden outburst of enthusiasm I decided to investigate the rear underside of the XM which I hadn't seen. Hopefully it wouldn't be too rusty and I could check over the spare & cradle, change the Hydractive sphere, oil the H/C linkage and give it a coat of Waxoyl.

I took this photo because I thought it looked good on the ramps with the bonnet...

cheers for replys guys found it,o ring was leaking on valve block under oil tank five minute fix,had one ove them weeks while under car gave it a once over and found exhaust rusted through,lucky got a spare car here as a breaker with 2 mth old exhaust so that went on cheers again/steve

And if its rusted badley its an absolute PIG to do, and you either cit the damm thing, or use mole grips to hold the joint while you undo it..

It varies depending how rusty the threads are and how well you clean them up....

Does anybody know where the loom for the front seats ends up?

From the seats, it disappears under the carpet towards the front of the car.

I've just had a look at swapping my Activa seats for leather to find that the loom is not in place in the Activa, I only have the wiring for the electric height adjustment.

I was rather hoping a short bit of the loom could just be replaced. Saves messing with splicing and soldering. But yes, I could just do that. I could probably just tap into the existing wiring under the seat as the Activa seats have electric height adjustment.

I don't know if the heater elements work. If they don't they are easily enough repaired...

I had to weigh the car in due to substantial rear end damage... however, the car still records as unlicence'd...

Slowly getting to the bottom of the Xantia's niggles, however I do have the following issues;

When going over a speed hump (suspension set in either NORM or SPORT) at a pace fast enough to make the car go into hard mode, when it resumes its soft state, the bum of the car feels like it drops (or lifts - cant remember now) slightly when the change...

Hi Regan,

Yes, engine off and doors open will keep the suspension in soft mode. A leaky valve can cause sinks.

Try the same thing with the Hydractive system forced hard by removing F8 from the engine bay fuse box. If the sinks don't occur then the electrovalves are suspect. Also, unless you have proved otherwise, the Hydractive centre spheres...

I need to remove the seats on my 97 ZX hatch, ive done plenty of BX seats but not ZX ones, are they the standard torx screws? If so what size!

If they are the same size as Xantia Ones then they will be a Torx 30 bit...

Im sure they are laid out the same as Xantia seats with the bolts facing downwards through the runners...

Hi,

Doing a favour for the father-in-law whose Xsara Picasso 2.0 HDi 2001 had stop lights and overheating messages pop up the other day during a long drive. AA man came out and found coolant was gone but no leaks anywhere, and said looked like head gasket failure. He apparently put some stuff in the coolant tank that he said might gum up the bad...

Don't know if you can but rev it and look in the coolant tank and if you see a flow of small bubbles then headgasket. Mines when like champagne.

Also doing it yourself, you may need to get the head skimmed. I did.

On the rear electrovalve block on the Xantia there are two hydraulic supply pipes which I believe come from the antisink valve. What would be the effect of connecting them into the wrong way round? And can anyone tell which way round they are supposed to be :oops:

I managed to strip it right down but it ended up that it was the horizontal adjuster and not the vertical adjuster.

A judicious spraying of Ultra 2040 loosened it up. I didn't get flashed on the way home last night so I must have done something right. :D
