Hi, hope your all well. I noticed this morning a bit of LHM in front of the drivers side front wheel on the tarmac, upon further inspection I found a leak in the elbow part of the strut pipe opposite the timing belt, there is a bolt that holds the pipe to the chassis and seems to be coming from there and finding the lowest point. Has any one experienced this, is it a difficult job to get hold of a pipe and fit it as it seems to run around the back of the engine!
Cheers, Chris.

Re: Xantia LHM strut pipe leak
This pipe was a very common leak item indeed and ive seen lots that have been changed..
the pipe is very awkward to remove as it was fitted first before other things were put in the engine bay.. i can tell you too exactly where it goes.. it runs along the back with the brake doser pipes to the right corner then passes through the brackets under the lhm tank to the K joint (as yurs is a sinker) that's right under the tank.
so you need to remove the lhm tank for that side.. You have a choice.. get a full replacement pipe (from me if you wish and your in the UK) remove by cutting each end of the pipe off as much as possible leave the middle awkward bit in place and fit another replacement pipe as best as possible OR
findsomeone with a citroen flare tool and cut the pipe at the leak section and flare in a new section from there to the strut top.
the last car i broke had this done to it..when i saw it i thought how neat.. ive obviously kept it when i stripped the car for spares and scrap..

Re: Xantia LHM strut pipe leak
Thanks for the quick reply and info, how much do you want for a new pipe as I don't have access to a flare tool, cheers!

Re: Xantia LHM strut pipe leak
Oh ok.. Im in North Wales..
The biggest issue is packing the pipe up to send, Ill look into that this week, if I can find a big and long enough box to put it in...
Probably around £25 quid POSTED...

Re: Xantia LHM strut pipe leak
there was a modified pipe supplied by citroen because of this very issue , the replacment pipe had a lot more length, which allowed it to move more freely as the strut top flex's with steering movement

Re: Xantia LHM strut pipe leak
Hi CitroenXM, 25 quid sounds fine, is it just a case of detaching the pipe from the sphere end and under the LHM tank, and attaching the new pipe? Cheers, Chris.

Re: Xantia LHM strut pipe leak
Yes.. but it may need some routing about or cable timing down along the way..
BUT before any undoing though she's a sinker to be safe put your height lever to lowest and for the sake of air ingress after replacement make sure the pressure regulator screw is undone to releave pressure and bleed air out after the pipe swap..
