French Car Forum

With cars like Cits and Pugs, the number of people one feels confident relying on for spares and service, can be pretty small.

I was in need of parts to repair the crashed Alfa, so I called my local French car parts mob. Sadly, they'd been excommunicated by the Cit importers - who also do Alfa.

However... As with all decent businees, they had...

Well for the 2nd time one of the nippers has been sick in a Xantia i've owned :(

Now i've tried washing with disinfectant but it still allows the smell to come back after a few hours, tried dettol spray and just leaving the spray to soak in to try and kill the germs but still no luck.

Is there anything else i can use in the car to get the smell...

Chaps, do any of you running WVO actually get complaints...

My colleague here has said she can tell when I arrive and leave the carpark :D I asked her if it was a problem and she said I stink  (this morning she emailed asking why I hadn't come in, but I had driven in using some horrible VW bora petrol thing)

I asked her if I should...

Guys,

As you may have seen on another thread in here, i will be attending the DS/SM rally this year in the Xantia (until i win the lottery and buy a DS)

If you need any parts and can hold on a couple of weeks then i can bring them to the show where you can pay special show price which will be a decent reduction over GSf retail ...

I was searching for Xantias used by the police and found this one:

Now I know I'm ill at the moment, but tell me I'm not seeing things and there are 5 wheel nuts?
It's a 2.0HDi

Quad valve DOHC Cadillac V-8 with FWD transaxle and the wiring harness...

Yours for USD$3500 plus freight. What a sleeper it would be with LX badges and Activa hydraulics!

Made out of a Ferrari 355 Maranello??

Isn't it great what you can do if you have €180,000 lying around?

After nearly 4 years of Frenchcar ownership (zx and 406), I’m leaving the fold. The Citroën was weighed in before the front suspension made an unwelcome appearance through the bonnet and the Peugeot is going as “part-ex” on the wife’s new Yaris.

I’d like to say thank you for all the helpful advice, it’s saved me a pile of money and got me through...

Guys, GSF have just got in some new hand scanners which are very good and aimed at either DIY mechanics or garages.

There is one specifically for french cars and from what ive seen from the equivalent VAG scanner they are awesome bits of kit, and perform a massive range of functions. I took one to a garage the other day and they bought it on the...

Correct me here if i'm wrong, but was 1997 generaly the change-over year from MK1-MK2 ? , after this the vast majority seem to be MK2's, thats untill i recently spotted two Xants, a T & V plate both definatly MK1's, the V plate being listed here seem a little strange MK1's popping up nearly 2 years after change over ???....
Incidentally has anyone...

Is it just me ?
Every time I try to use Google.com I end on on the Mozilla Home Page telling me to download the latest version of Firefox. I don't use Firefox at the moment. I thought it might be a virus on my laptop but it looks more and more like the Domain Name Server is redirecting me to Mozilla.

Anybody else having this problem ?

When I moved into my house about 2 years ago, we had Sky broadband, with a download connection of 14Mbps, this slowly dropped over time to 8Mbps.
About a year ago I changed to O2 broadband, and was getting about 7Mbps down and anywhere between 0.9 and 1.2Mbps up (which is great as I run a web server).
Phoned them up at the weekend due to a few DNS...

I have a circuit that is switched at both ends - i.e One on the positive side and one on the negative side. Is it possible (I'm sure it is but I can't get my head roud it) to have one LED show when the positive switch is on but the negative switch off and then a second LED to show when both are on?

Or possibly not:

I’ve got a ’96 406 Executive DT with an XUD9 motor. It has the semi-electronic IP, which is the reason for my post.

1) What does the electronic bit do?
2) What symptoms/behaviour would a fault with the leccy bits demonstrate?

The car used to belong to my parents and I’m sure that when they got it it had much more umph (had around 90k on the...

Wafting across the roundabout in Christchurch, coming from the A337 going onto the A35 Saturday about 17:50. Dark blue colour, looked like it was on the sea rather than a road. It fair glided past me, so smooth.

I think the last three reg were UCX - anyone here?

Guys and girls,

Next weekend is the Citroen Car Club National Rally at Wetherby Race Course.

Anyone going?

If the boss doesnt have me rota'd in for anything i will be going up early sunday morning in the Xantia from Oldham :)

Starting to get psyched. The tow vehicle - a 2001 Falcon ute

The journey.

It's a couple of weeks off yet, but the necessary arrangements have been made (bookings etc). It's quite a hike! I'll update more in the coming week...

It's official, my missus doesn't like the Scenic. She reckons it drives like a van, and that my Xantia with the dodgy pressure regulator and thirst for oil is a dream to drive in comparison.

The Scenic's not exactly spacious in the back just now with one full-size child seat and two baby seats. When the twins graduate to full-size child...

Title says it all ... gear box seems very notchy when engine is cold. It's reluctant to go in gear without pushing the clutch all the way in? Once warmed up seems fine, any ideas? Not sure when the last service was, I think the oil and filter were changed at 98k now on 101k. Thanks.

Do make sure that they are for your car and not some visiting Belgian one :!:

Hi,
Just seen this on aol---a 2CV quiz-don't know if it will work here, but here goes;

Greg

Re picking up the TD, could you please respond to my PM/Call me to make arrangements please, thanks.

Gareth

Hi,
After a few faults with Fart Punto, I have decided to get my finger out and get the work done on the Xant. First up is heater plugs, then alternator belt & tensioner and cambelt. Then a brake bleed, followed by a radiator.
The heater plugs will be the easiset, as I have a small cranked ring spanner, which is perfect. Why don't Beru supply new...

Did anyone watch it at all, was a repeat on Dave from a few years ago mind but was very well compared to a 5 series bmw :)

Looking at this I am pleased to be suspended by spheres!

(not sure if image works on ebay)

I brought a set... £13 delivered for 4 good quality chrome spanners in a tool roll..

these are v. polished..

They look fine to my eye, especially as they wont get much use..

I couldn't find a 13mm single spanner for much less than £6 on ebay, so four spanners for twice that isnt too bad..

the shop has about...

Well they have updated the Golf to have amongst other things a lip on the wing mirrors to get the rain to run away, air bags for the knees, etc etc.

They have also included (fog) lights that turn!

Now I wonder where they got that idea of lights that turn from?

Imitation is the most sincere form of flatery!

i see pug have sold citroen out to the german's

50mph limit for rural roads

The speed limit on single carriageway rural roads is to be cut from 60mph to 50mph under government plans announced yesterday.

The lower limit is to be enforced by a new generation of average speed cameras capable of catching motorcycles. It could be imposed by next year.

Roads minister Jim Fitzpatrick said the move...

I've just bought a newer ZX to replace my wife's older one. Transferring the insurance I was asked if the car had been modified, I said it hadn't but asked if I fitted Citroen alloys would that count as an alteration. The reply was that it would and that the premium would increase by £54!!!

I think I'll stay with the steel wheels.

PS. I've just...

The above 406 can transform into this below!

Found while surfing the net.

What's all this about?

Is it for real?

I'll be damned if most of your friends won't drool all over you when they see you in this stunning Ferrari 360 Modena Replica, made by Extreme Cars. Judging by the photos, these guys seem to have done quite an...

Dunno if this is the right section for it, but reg'd yesterday and thought id say ello n share some pics with my wi french monster.

Quite a few years ago bought a 306 TD and after sometime it got too slow so ripped the engine out and bought this.

then did this

and turned it in to this

The project is still on going but nearly...

A few months ago we had the Xantia with the identity crisis wearing both early Mk1 and Mk1 chevrons on the front.

Take a look at this one, its almost ashamed to be a citroen

eBay itemn number : 260376503070

Just been having a nose at insurance groups here:

My 1.9 TD LX is insurance group 12, the VSX model appears to be only 10?

Hows that

Also something I've always wondered, what is the (AC) about?
I used to think it meant AirCon :D
1.9 TD LX 5d 12
1.9 TD LX 5d (AC) 12

Have you seen the road tax reminder advert?

It pays homage to the Citroen robot advert, with its transformation, but this time into a phone

Not mine, I hasten to add.

This is for an internet friend in the land of the Kiwi, who needs advice on how to clean his currently off-the-car turbo.

The car wasn't born in France, unfortunately but I'm sure we won't hold that against him will we :)

Kerosene has been proposed but I wonder how the bearings will like that treatment?

Also, when...

Hi all.

I've had so many Citroens I've lost count. Started with a GS Club Break back in 1974. Followed by many more Gs and CXs. Including a BRAND NEW CX familiale 2.0 reflex (which turned out to be the least satisfying Citroen I ever had).

More recently I've had a couple of XMs but have just discovered how brilliant a diesel ZX is a town car....

Hiya Folks,

I know this old chestnut has been roasted over and over agin in this and many other forums but why on earth when the cost of petrol is slowly falling is the price of diesel going up.

Around where I stay and work, Lanarkshire & Glasgow, the price of petrol has fallen slowly to about 94.9p a litre with a few week back diesel down to...

Look at this :D

Spotted in Padworth, Berkshire. It's certainly unusual

Can anyone give me some info on what the HDI engine is like to drive, and to live with.

- Does the computer managment cause problems?
- How is it compared to the earlier XUD engine?

TIA.

Here's a link to some (random) pictures.

Apart from my front accumulator sphere, I tested fuel rail pressure. Also helped several other people with rear Xantia spheres - got a slight trick for getting off the rear centre unit (removing the distribution block bolt for more wiggle room). Plus there was the cooling fan removal; sadly the motor...

While out the other day a Berlingo pulled up in the lane alongside me at the traffic lights, so while waiting for the lights to change I took a look sideways.

The vehicle had tinted windows, although not at the rear, only on both sides as I found out after we turned right through the T junction.

The thing that stood out while taking that glance,...

Which fuel pump is better? I heard somewhere that the Bosch ones are stronger, and more reliable and will last longer, and are the only ones that you can put veg oil through. Is this true?

I won't be surprised if the above is wrong ... can't remember where I heard it.

Thanks.

I hope our Australian members and their relatives and friends have managed to stay out of harm's way during the bushfires which have devastated the southeastern state of Victoria. Today Australia observes a National Day of Mourning to commemorate the loss of more than 209 lives in the worst bushfires in living memory which ignited just over two...

Would anyone know of either possibility below:

A site equivalent to service.citroen, but for Alfa, or...
A source of factory parts manuals (CD) to suit 147

Not a repair guide as such, just diagrams and reference details like SC has. I want to price the possibility of repairing our bent one.

Thanks, Adam.

Just wondering if anyone has some flare nut spanners they could lend me for the weekend. Would really have to be somebody local...

I need to do my brake hoses and I do not have any flare nut spanners, don't really want to risk rounding the unions off.

I just cannot afford to spend ANYTHING more this month so can't buy a set myself just yet.

If...

As mentioned in my blog I've just fitted a new radiator to my VSX Xantia which I intend keeping for the foreseeable future so I in order to preserve the cooling system and in particular the vulnerable heater matrix I''m considering whether its worthwhile using one of Forte's cooling system products (or any other recommended product for that...

Ok heres your chance to show off your heavy oil burner engines,i guess the win could goto anyone with the PSA groups 2.2hdi with 170hp but im talking older engines if possible with modifications or newer engines into older cars.
Purpose of the thread is to see who's done what and wether it works or not, pictures and sensible advice wouldnt go amiss.

as you all know there are a lot of different makes that use the same base car for several different models ,so can anyone point me in the direction of a web site of forum that can tell me what towbars fit different cars.
the reason i ask is i have a couple of people wanting me to fit bars for them and because they are as tight as me will not buy...
