Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

According to Takata, the chemicals in the airbags’ explosive charge can...

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

Does it crunch when you stick it in reverse, if it does the clutch is dragging, not freeing properly and still rotating.
Are all forward gears difficult to engage or just 1st and 2nd, if it goes in to reverse ok and the prob in on 1 and 2 it could be weak syncros, or if its all forward gears it could just be linkages.

Just a point brought up by someone in Oz a couple of weeks ago.
The 19 TZi and TRi of the 1989 onwards vintage, seem prone to using oil.

Accurate fuel gauge ?

by reffro » 25 Nov 2002, 17:26

First post

Compared to my Xantia's fuel gauge, I'd get better readings of the amount of fuel in my tank by sticking a wet finger in the air to see which way the wind is blowing.

by Jon » 21 Nov 2002, 21:28

First post

nah, take the AX ones back or sell 'em.
Zx mudflaps, now let me see. Ah yes, you can get contoured or blade type for the front on a ZX, the blade being ye olde traditional ones, the countoured sort of just come out a bit from the wheelarch, but look better. At the back, you have to tell the dealer whether its a 3 or 5 door and if it has 13 or 14...

Last post

Who knows if AX mudflaps are compatible with the ZX? I got a bit bored with the mud sprays up the side of my AX and purchased some mudflaps (two pairs for front and back) from the Citroen chaps. Well, being a lazy moo, I never fitted them and now I have sold my AX. Do you think they would go on my ZX or should sell them to some AX owner and start...

Xantia - unbalanced braking.

Different make of tyre ?
Wrong size compares to the rest ?
Under / over inflation ?
Tracking & Balancing ? ( alters contact angle with the road ).
OR simply a tyre which is worn a little more than the others..

Was driving in some pretty extreme conditions today, and found that the N/S front wheel would skid extremely easily when braking, the braking effort required being only slighly more than that for a normal stop.
Admittedly there was a lot of water on the road, but even so it should, I felt, have had more stopping-power than that. I tried it in the...

idiots guide to wheelbearing change please

by Xantia786 » 21 Nov 2002, 05:39

First post

Is it your front or rear wheel bearings? fronts on fwd cars can be a pain while the backs wont be too bad to change.
best bet is to get the haynes manual for the car although its never that clear in the manual it will give you a good idea of where to start etc.
You will need a large socket to undo the hub nut which you will probably end up buying...

Need to change my wheel bearings as the noise is very loud now and vibrating at speed....... can you guys tell me what I need and what tools will do for the job and is there anything else I should change at the same time?? No experience necessary I hope!!

A garage i've used in the past and who are quite good are called cps.
They are located in finchley and their website is www.citroen specialists.co.uk. They service and repair all types of citroen and peugeot so they should be able to help you or at least point you in the right direction.

xantia radio code and wipers

by higgy » 21 Nov 2002, 03:08

First post

I had the same problem with the radio code on my xantia.Give the dealers the serial number off the radio and they can get you the right code. Can't help with the wipers though.

Last post

Well, at first it was just the common problem of a broken clutch cable clip. But eventually I have got to the stage of having a working clutch but NO MUSIC!!
After reconnecting the battery the radio wanted me to input the code, but I didn't have it. My local Citroen Dealer (Newport I.O.W. - very helpful) looked it up through the VIN, but it didn't...

xantia bumper inserts

by Xantia786 » 21 Nov 2002, 05:49

First post

Depending on what size they are you could do what i did and seek out a coachtrimming firm who has stuff like that in various sizes that you just stick on with 3m tape in place of the old ones.
Failing that a good citroen breaker should have them at a modest price.
Sometimes you can find inserts at motor factors as well although having said that...

Xantia running hot!

I don't think that's too hot actually. And if it is I have a problem too
My car constantly runs around those temps too, never overheated not even in summer with 30 degs outside sitting in a traffic jam. My car does however take too long to heat up so I shall probably replace the thermostat soon.
Enjoy,
Niek.

Last post

Have just acquired Xantia 2.0 SX 8v 1994.
Engine runs consistently hot at 80-90 degrees. Assume that this is way above the norm.
Any particular things/known problems that I should be looking for.
I intend to change the coolant following the 13 printed pages of advice from ShaunTheSheep's post

Xantia - funny noise

by nick » 20 Nov 2002, 05:45

First post

When the accumulator sphere was going flat on my Xantia I used to get a sort of rattling noise when the engine was revved. Just the hydraulic system repressurising, which it has to do much more often if the accumulator's flat.
The noise you get on Xantias seems quite different to the straightforward 'click' BX's make when they've got this problem....

Last post

1994 Xantia 1.9 TD
It runs and drives OK but when I rev the engine beyond 2500 - 3000
it makes a funny noise like a resonant flapping/drumming from the
engine. It sounds like maybe the intercooler plastic pipes are
vibrating on boost or something. On the odd occasion I managed to get
rid of the noise, but I don't know what was causing it. I...

c15d steering/ possible unavailability of parts

by alan s » 19 Nov 2002, 02:53

First post

My guess would be that the flat holds it in position, the splines locate it at exactly where it should be and also take the vibration/wobble out that outside forces would exert on it which in turn could cause the flat to round off & become ineffective if not firmly held. In other words, the splines stop radial movement whilst the flat holds it...

Last post

This is a question that may have many throwing their hands up in horror, however. If a splined shaft which had a flat area where the clamping bolt passed over still be safe if the splines were worn, the joint being very tight. Are the splines for location? I do realise the splines probably may contribute to a non slip situation but do the lack of...

Xantia Wheel Bearing 2.0SX

by JohnD » 18 Nov 2002, 23:20

First post

If it is a shot rear bearing it will rumble a bit before you can detect any movement. Jack it up and give the wheel a spin. Surprised it wasn't picked up at its last MOT.

Last post

Have just acquired a 94 2.0 SX Xantia.
There is a rumbling noise coming from the rear near side wheel that gets louder as you pick up speed.
I suspect that this is a shot rear bearing.
If this is the case and I jack the car up should I expect the wheel to wobble slightly.
Also I have already got some quotes from various spares shops. The prices...

Saxo Radiator-what make?

by Jon » 19 Nov 2002, 13:39

First post

The only original equipment radiators fitted to Saxo Mk1 are VALEO or ORDONEZ. Indeed these 2 companies supply the vast majority of radiators fitted to all Citroen and Peugeots from the factory.
Ordonez radiators seem more common on diesels and turbo diesels, I don't know why.

Just wanted to check, what make is the standard factory radiator on a mark1 VTR? I'm sure it's Valeo but a guy on another forum says it's a make beginning with O. My original was Valeo and I have just fitted a new one I bought from a Citroen specialist, this too is Valeo. I also took it to my local Citroen dealer as it was slightly different to my...

xantia ecu removal

by Dave Burns » 19 Nov 2002, 00:53

First post

Bad news I'm affraid, the pump has to be removed from the engine, then the shear head bolts that hold the steel (gold coloured) security cover on have to be driven round (unscrewed) by punching them with a hammer and a punch, that is the most common method, or if that doesn't work they have to be drilled out.
It is impossible to do this with the...

AX : battery or alternator fault?

by mbunting » 18 Nov 2002, 17:33

First post

Sounds to me like your battery is not being charged due to a problem. Normally all the electrics run off the alternator directly, but evidently that is not providing power, so they are taking power from the battery - which is not being re-charged by the alternator !
If it was working before the flood event, then one would suspect water problems....

Right, firstly a big thanks to the guys that helped me out before, with the idling probs/ cutting out. i did as you all said and changed distributor/ rotor arm, and all is fine....

I would have thought air in the system was a little unlikeley, especially with the back brakes being linked to the suspension.
Is the ride like this when the rear is empty ? How about loading up the boot ?
The trouble is, having supposedly good spheres may now highlight other problems which were being masked.
When was the last time you changed the...

Hi Guys,
For the past two weeks I have been suffering from really hard rear suspension on my R-reg Xantia 1.9TD and joined this forum to try and explain what was up.
Having established that this is caused by duff rear spheres, I took the car to the local garage (who do quite a bit of Citroen work) for their opinion - which was that the rear...

Fox II,
Hello mate, with what you say i would maybe check out the wiring around the heater motor for bad connections/corrosion, might also be worth checking the same for the heater motor resistor which i think is somewhere very close to the base of the heater motor. Anyone else any suggestions?? Let us know what happens!
Regards, Rich.

This is doing my Head in. The ventilation system is playing up big time! A while ago I had to change the A/C ECU as this was knackered, and since then it has been fine. But recently I have been having problems with the ventilation system not blowing as it should. When I fiddle around with a few wires under the glove box, it will return to normal....
