I don't have knowledge of the Peugeot, but the issue of a loose connection is known with several makes of car.
I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

Hi Matt,
At a rough guess; how about using a bead of clear silicone sealant. I once used it for this purpose as it allows the membrane to peel off easy in the future if ever you need to remove it. Failing that, have a look in a good accessory shop as they usually stock sealants/adhesives for every job imaginable.

hmmmm,
well there is a support bearing on the RH driveshaft where it runs through the lower engine mounting, and this can get noisy.
To eliminate the g/box from your enquiries why not get up to speed and knock the car into neutral and see if the whining noise is still there? If it is, then it may be the shaft bearing or a wheel bearing.

135,000 miles is not to bad for a clutch, some folk can reduce them to scrap at a lot less mileage than this, all depends how they are driven.
I don't think a new cable will make much difference but when the clutch is finally replaced you will want to complete the job with a new cable anyway, then you have at least the same miles to go before it...

Hi,
As a rough guide, most people seem to reckon if you can fit three fingers between the tyre and the arch lip, then the height isn't too far out - I can just manage this on mine. Although this does depend somewhat on how big your hands are!! ;-)
Every one I see on the road seems to ride at a different height though!!!

The reason that you can't remove the instrument panel is that the speedo cable sounds like its still attached to the the back of the speedo. I generally carefully remove the air vent on the RH side of the dash and get my (little) hand through to detach the cable, but someone else may have a diffrent method.

Hi Phil - Although the repair kit for a rear arm is only in the region of £22 (providing the arm isn't beyond repairing), £150 sounds a familiar price that others on this forum have ben quoted for an independant garage job.

drivers rear window

If it were me and the nearside window still operates ok, I'd go look at where I'd been messing about, i.e the console switch/wiring area.
There's no relay in the door just the motor and the switch, there is a relay to dissable the rear function via the dash switch, but you can just about forget that because the other window works.

i checked my central locking relay yesterday (the one under the central console), had to remove the console including disconnecting of the rear window switches, now the drivers side rear window will not move .

Lowering the suspension on a hydrocit is easier than on any other car, if that's what you want to do, all you need is a spanner to loosen the clamp/link on the anti roll bars that control the height corrector's.
Front suspension, the top of the clamp needs to rotate towards the front of the car to lower it.
Rear suspension, the top of the clamp...

What is the clutch like, if its heavy in operation or allready seen long service it may be wise to replace it at the same time, also check the crankshaft rear oil seal is still good.
Don't forget the front of the car needs to be high enough to allow the transmission to be removed from underneath.
The gearbox end of the engine has to be supported...

1)Sorry to be a pessimist, but it sounds like your front spheres need regassing (or replacing) (again). If you can't bounce the front of the car up and down at least six inches then there's something wrong. Can you raise and lower the car without any trouble? (indicates that the front struts arn't sticking).

On a similar quest trying to sort out an intermittent cutout problem.
In reply to your question nothing should happen. the stepper motor will only do something if the load on the engine i.e. air conditioning cuts in, or lights get turned on (may be), changes or drops the idle speed, stepper motor will then bring it back to norm.

Tinted windows light transmittance

Anyone knows how much the side windows of a Xantia 1.9TD 1996 are tinted to? What is the light transmittance cause I want to tint it further but must comply with state regulations. Is the front and back glass tinted at all? I stay in a very hot and sunny place. Too much sun in the tropics, get cooked without a good air con and good tint.

I believe you just need to remove the two rubber gromits facing you and use a screwdriver on the two screws. Once the two screws are out you should be able to pull the unit forward and out!

What they may have meant is the Battery was connected in reverse, effectively making the car positive earth. It would have meant most of the voltage critical items would have had current running through them in reverse. Most earthing circuits within components have diodes to prevent the reverse flow of current/voltage through them during normal...

The car I just bought has recently had a new battery, alternator and starter.
I was told that the battery voltage reversed and damaged these components, it also seems to have blown any fuses to the stereo and taken out the stereo head unit.
Has anyone heard of reversing batteries before? I haven't!

what engine in xantia??? it sounds like a clutch problem to make pedal stiff (could be lucky could be cable) brakes need checking one thing you can be sure withxantia brakes working properly they are instant without much pressure (could be air in system).

There have been quite a few threads on ABS in particular Xantia ABS so if you go to search and put either ABS or Brakes in I think you'd get plenty of advice to read on this subject.
To me, it sounds more like something not telling the ECU that it's supposed to be working rather than it not working! I'd personally begin bt removing the road wheels...

I have had this problem. The only thing that worked for me was replacing the drivers side door lock. It's a bit tricky as the adapter is different from the original. You will need to splice the new wiring into the existing loom. Xantia 1993 TD SX still going strong 140K miles

Hi Chris, I think you can forget all about stud extractors of any kind, if the bolt wouldn't unscrew and broke, then an extractor has got no chance.
Options as see them are 1, take the arm off and take it where the bolts can be removed, 2 get it recovered as you say to a garage, 3 drill the bolts out which will be a bit risky as you might damage...

xantia rear height measurement please

i have finally sorted the rear height on my xantia shes no longer doing a hotrod act! can someone give/tell me the correct height from the rear (centre of) hub nut to the wheel arch lip (at 12 o'clock) please
also should the car be empty or some weight in it?
the xantia is a 1.9 td on a 1993 l reg hatchback

if it is out of line take steering wheel off and adjust on splines(?airbag) if you cannot get perfectly straight take vehicle to be tracked they will get it right. if all dash lights have gone it may be all bulbs gone over period of time or could be fuse or could be light rheostat. when taking clocks out careful not to break speedo cable. if doing...

1.My steering wheel is off center (not aligned properly)Does anyone know the approx cost of rectifying the prob.

I suppose it could be a bit of end float on the sun gears but it would be a big drama to haul that out to check. I had one on my BX 16V that turned out to be the circlip on the CV that hadn't been pressed into its groove properly allowing the shaft to float when I turned right, particularly if I accellerated at an intersection. It was a strange...

Pros : Ludicrous power & cornering
Cons : Bad ride, noisy, not a bit like a Xantia

Talk about throwing the cat among the pigeons!
I'm no engineer but I know that the Xantia eats up bumps like nothing else and that I'd sooner do a DIY sphere replacement than mess about with coil springs and shock absorbers. As for unreliable, I've done 90,000 miles across two Xantias and never had a problem.

As an engineer I can't help wondering if the Xantia (and similar) suspension design isn't just a bad idea. If you cast your eyes down the forum every day, the majority of posts are concerning problems people are having with their Xantia / BX / XM suspension setup. Having never driven one...

Hi, I bought a Xantia Activa a couple of months ago. It was registered in November 1998 but built in 1997. When I first went to see the car at a fleet car centre in Leeds, it couldn't be started because they didn't have a code for the immobiliser.
They then sent the ECU off somewhere for decoding or reprogramming and called me when it was ready....

Every two minutes the electrovalves thump away about once a second, and the car seem permenantly stuck in hard mode.
Has anyone else come across this before?

I'm very confused about the spheres on s2 Xm's. I have a hydractive
so it's 1 acc. sphere in the engine bay, 2 for the front wheels, 1
front center (hydractive), 2 for the rear wheels, 1 rear center

All Citroen Zantias that are fitted with the anti-sink feature are fitted with a centre sphere on the rear subframe. The anti-sink valve is bolted on below this sphere and has several steel pipes coming out of it

The rear on a Xantia goes up first and comes down last because its lighter than the front.

Had a problem with that relay on a family members TD Aura, awkward to get at.
The spade connectors to the relay went bad , started arcing got hot melted relay and wiring, eventually no head lights at all.
New relay and wire connectors, problem sorted.

1. Can you get a metal clutch clip?
Not as far as I know, unless you make it yourself! The clip failing is a sign that the clutch is too heavy which is caused by either the cable or the clutch itself. The clip is reportedly a git to change, but ignore the doom mongers who say you need to strip the dash out. Most DIYers rekon on about 2 hours, even...

was the rear height correcter set up correctly by the garage when they replaced it?
the dropping in height might be caused by worn spheres on the rear?
or a worm acc sphere?, how many times odes it click a minute?
have you changed any other spheres on the car?
has it had a lhm fluid and flter change?
