ZX Heater Snag

Hi Folks!
Any help with the following would be greatly appreciated:
Heater motor failed instantly. Fuse ok so assumed motor failed. Checked motor which ran ok connected directly to the battery. Supply voltage was constant around 1.2v regardless of fan speed setting, voltage was 0 in 'off' position. Removed fan speed switch via centre console (shocker of a fiddly job but gave me the opportunity to replace a few facia bulbs!). Switch ok so assumed resistor under scuttle gone. Have just replaced that (nice qiuck job but the reassembly looks a bit fiddly getting the scuttle trim under the windscreen rubber), to find that upon reassembly the blower is still not working. Next step obviously is to go through loom checking for connectors and earthing but before I get down to it I wondered if anyone has been here before and could give some top tips, electrical stuff is not my fave and I hate wiring diagrams!
Now it's all back together again I find that I have also managed to bypass the facia lighting rheostat completely and given that function to the heater fan switch (bizarre but vaguely pleasing!)and my temp gauge won't budge so it's all going to have to come off again!
At least doing it myself is all saving money for Mrs G's next handbag or shoe purchase. I wonder how much a weekend is worth any way?

PS Anyone at Andyspares know of a good & cheap Citroen mechanic in the Reading area. I had some suspension work done by a guy last year
who was reccommended by a bloke who worked on the counter at Andyspares but have lost his number.

Sudden and total loss sounds like it could be a broken wire somewhere - nightmare!
On the xantia the ingnition switch carries all the current for the heater blower, and is a well known weak point - maybe the same is true for ZX's - anbody know!
There's Cleaver Cars in Reading - on the industrial estate behind the battle hospital, and there's also the place in Wokingham - Citromech or something they're called - they will collect the car, and last time I had any work done met the price Cleaver's quoted. Mind you, I haven't lived there for 18 months so it may all have changed now!
