Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

According to Takata, the chemicals in the airbags’ explosive charge can...

Disruption to Parts Service

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

Citroen ZX Turbo D Injectors

by sooty » 04 Apr 2003, 02:08

First post

I've a ZX td with 116,000 miles and had a (F**d E****t with 260,000 miles no problems). It still has its orginal injectors, fuel encomony good, performance good, starting no problem, no black/blue smoke.
I think, its time to worry about changing or servicing them if you fail the MOT or suffering from heavy fuel consumption etc.
Leave well alone...

Last post

Hello.
My ZX has currently got 86000 miles on the clock.
Whilst running and performing as well as ever, I remember reading that the injectors should be overhauled by an Diesel injection specialist at between 90,000 to 100,000 miles.
Does anybody think that this is necessary? Or perhaps get them done when I have problems with running and smoke...

Doseur valve and sinking suspension

by tomsheppard » 03 Apr 2003, 21:56

First post

Random faults are often due to muck in the system. You could try flushing it.

Last post

Hi all (again)
Xantia been in for wheel alignment and guy said I had 5000+ miles left in my brake pads. (I'd been assuming poor braking performance due to them being near end of their shelf life, wrong again).
The suspension is doing odd things (all 5 spheres changed, not anti-sink though). The car will sink sometimes when parked up. Sometimes in...

Xantia starting

The First thing to measure is the voltage across the battery when the plugs are heating. If this is 10 volts, battery is kaput. If the voltage across battery is over 12.6, leave the negative meter lead where it is and measure Positive lead directly to the top of the glowplug having first made sure that you are connecting to bright and shiny metal....

Last post

Can anyone tell me where the relay/timer is located on a 96 1.9 Xantia
The car is very slow to start from cold .I want to check for poor earths etc. The batt shows about 12.6 volts on a volt meter but the same meter only shows about 10 volts reaching the plugs during heating. Could this be the cause of the problem or is this normal?

Changing spheres and leaks (oh, and brakes)

by AndersDK » 03 Apr 2003, 07:56

First post

Well Rob -
It's quite a project you have invested in
The greenblood leakage from the acc sphere is most likely cured now, but notice that when replacing spheres, the (new) O-ring seal must be greased, either with LHM or (better) with universal mineral based grease.
Spheres are allways ONLY tightened by hand like an oil filter.
There are no valves...

Hi all
Ive a 94 xantia non turbo diesel, have owned it 4 weeks and am slowly (with the help of here) fixing the numerous problems it has.
The brakes were shot and pulsing like a good un so last weekend I put new disks and pads in and it felt much better. I have only driven 10 or so miles since then.
The other problem was a constant ticking from...

Oh joy - another two weeks off the road !

by mbunting » 03 Apr 2003, 01:50

Well, the constant maintenance requirements ( and my mechanical knowledge ) is increasing rapidly.
Picture the scene - travelling at a nice 80mph on the M1, put my foot down to overtake ( Xantia TD ), the car responded by staying exactly where it was, and 'smoking' a little from the back .
Cruised past my normal junction deliberately to go to the...

Excellent, informative review - hope the C5 serves you well. I also had a test drive in the 2.2 HDi and was mighty impressed but it was outside our price range so got a Xantia HDi exclusive instead - but in a couple of years when good second hand ones come on the market......

Last post

During the forums enforced absence, I decided that I had better go and get a new car as I wouldn't have anywhere to air the troubles my old Xantia might throw up
I had a look round the Citroen website at approved used C5's, I was looking for something about 12 months old with about 10-12k on the clock. I went to a dealer about 30 miles away as I...

Xantia Rear Calipers

by AndersDK » 03 Apr 2003, 07:13

This is also a very common problem on the BX.

Last post

This is only for advice based on recent bad experience:
I had to replace the rear discs and pads on my '96 Activa because one of the discs was badly scored.
Upon removal of the caliper from the trailing arm to allow the disc to come off, I noticed that half of the caliper had been left behind.
The caliper is a cheap aluminium casting and the...

The internal movement alarm is faulty / too sensitive. Can it be adjusted or, possibly better still perminantly disabled. I know it can be disabled temp using the button on the dash. The fault prevents the use of the remote locking.

ZX Steering Rack

by Jon » 02 Apr 2003, 14:53

First post

I can't see that the 306 rack would fit. I also had a quick look on the microfiche and see various options for power ZX racks as well. You need a rack from a similar car, a ZX D or TD RHD with PAS is the only one that will fit. None of the Peugeot genuine numbers tally up with the ZX ones.
By the way, before you decide to change the rack, very...

I have a 1992 ZX 1.9D with power steering. There seems to be play between the rack and its housing on the left hand end of the steering gear.Is it possible to get the bush that the rack runs in?Also,if I need to replace the rack, would the rack from a power steering Peugeot 3o6 be a direct replacement?

Xantia, no brakes

by tomsheppard » 01 Apr 2003, 20:17

First post

I don't think that you are supposed to set off as soon as the engine fires because, hydractive or no, there needs to be hydraulic pressure present. If you are losing all brake pressure overnight, you may have a dodgy accumulator sphere. Most of the old hands on this site advocate changing it with the others.

Last post

M Xantia 1.9TD VSX, Hydractive, A/C, 160K)
On starting after being stood, sometimes for not long, and you set off as soon as the engine fires there are no brakes. Pressing the pedal results in enough time to think Oh my ***, death trap and then you stop abruptly. To me, it also feels as tho' the back end is 'hard' altho' that might be paranoia....

Food for thought though; if I drive me BX 16 Valve the same way, dya reckon it'll go as far?
Just as well this one's a diesel; can you imagine driving a BX 16 valve at 3000 rpm? I hit more than that down my driveway.

Yes, its true.
Its a blue B reg BX 19RD, Mk1 showing just over 900,000 miles at the time of writing. We've seen it, its owned by a chap called Cliff from Bracknell, Berks who also owns a Xantia estate.
The BX was bought new by our man, and was used to commute from Bracknell to Bradford and back on a daily basis!!!! Its now in semi retirement...

Fuel Flap stuck -helllp!

by tomsheppard » 01 Apr 2003, 18:14

Maybe it is gunged up with mud or road salt has caused rust and siezed it. If you can get anything behind it then scrape the muck out. If it will open part way then try a kettle full of hot water poured over the hinge then penetrating oil (WD40 or suchlike) followed by working the flap back and forth until it frees up. DO NOT PANIC! Diesel Tuning

by RichardW » 01 Apr 2003, 15:16

Gavin,
There's a guy Stefan that posts on the Q&A forum from time to time that has modified his BX TD quite a lot (more boost, timing, injectors, camshaft, bigger turbo, straight thru exhaust etc). I believe he is getting around 110 bhp now. Try sticking a post up there asking for a contact with him.

Does anyone know of any links to info about tuning the citroen diesel engines. I'm looking for info beyond just inceasing fuelling and boost pressure. Looking for info on gas flowing the exhaust - lowering the compression ratio a little and changing to a larger turbo.

ZX radio prob?

by Jon » 01 Apr 2003, 14:27

First post

First of all, do you have the correct code? If you do, turn the radio on and you will see 3 lines _ _ _ which means a wrong code has been entered. With the ignition on, and the radio showing _ _ _ leave for approx 35 mins and the 3 lines will clear, and the display will read C0d. Now you can re-enter the correct code.

Last post

How come you can get a subject that 3 people have responded to yet nobody has read?
Could it be that they knew what the problem is without even bothering to read the message? Gee! things just keep getting better all the time.
