Citroen AX 1.0 Driveshaft Problem

Unread post by barlowm »

We have just replaced both the N/S and O/S driveshafts on a Citroen AX 1.0 from the orginals as they had worn and started to knock. 2 re-conditioned shafts were fitted which were purchased from Citroen main dealer.
The one on the O/S is fine. The one on the N/S did 20 miles and the cylinder exploded and came a part. This was replaced by citroen as we though these were faulty parts the 2nd one did 170 miles and again exploded and the cylinder near the gearbox came a part. Citroen have now replaced this again after about 5 miles the car started to vibrate we now won't drive it just incase this one does the same.
Does anyone have any ideas if this could be a problem with the car and what we could possibly check or if we are being really unlucky and have had faulty drive shafts. We have know ordered a genuine part which should arrive tomorrow.[|)]

Even using a genuine Citroen garage - wo'nt guarantee you quality parts.
Obviously your Cit garage has a recon driveshaft vendor, which do not perform on quality....
Most likely the driveshafts for the AX can not withstand remilling during recon work, without weakening them. Or the recon work is done badly.
A more severe possibility is that your Cit garage simply use brokers units, NOT recon units (as they claim), which allready are on their way out....[:0]

I had to have new driveshafts last year and got new from GSF at fraction of cost of Citroen dealer, and just a few £ more than reconditioned ones.
