Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I have just returned from a few days in France (Dordogne) visiting a sick friend.
Saw loads of Citroens as you would expect - masses of most models, including 2CV's - but strangely, in the five days I was there, only a handful (literally) of Xantia's.

Do the French know something we don't ........... ??

As a Dordogne resident (retired Brit), I can say that there are loads of xantias around here. I own one and love it. I may sell it this year and get a 4X4 to handle the snow in the winter as I was snowed in for 3 days in January!
I owned Citroens in the UK too, 2 GSAs, 2CV, CX DTR Turbo2, BX TZD Turbo, XM Diesel and a C3 16 valve HDI. Shame they...

well as the heat has pushed in my zx is showing some signs of cooling problems which I obviously want to have sorted before things start to get heated, warped and damaged.

Hi all i have a peug 406 2.1 turbo dies 12v 1996 which i believe is the same as the xantias.

turbo boost while driving is fine from 2000 to 3000 revs but after that seems to pull on engines own power rather then the turbo doing the main pulling

is this something normal to expect ?

also just changed rear brake pads now when i brake pedal seems...

Hi,

I have a 1995 N reg dimension 1.9td and a 94/95 M reg Sx 1.9td - lucky you i hear you all shout :D

Heres the question, the dimension runs on 15 inch steel rims & the SX runs on 14 inch steel rims both 185/65 (I think - ok its raining and dark outside).

Does anyone know why they are different or is this a really stupid question? :roll:...

The Xantia wheel size changed in the UK from 14 to 15 on late N or early P registration cars with tyres going from 185x65x14 up to 195x60x15 as I was looking at a few of them a few years back.

Having said that my current Xantia has 185x65x15 tyres, as listed on drivers doorpillar, so when they changed again I couldnt say.

Went to go home from work last night and my xantia was making some awful clicking/cracking noise every now and then and the engine would shake just as it cracked.
Off down the road and then at the end the car just cut out, it then would not start. Would only turn very slowly.
After trying to start again today, it was slow to turn and made some...

H all, i have recently bought an 1.9d 02 berlingo with 20k on the clock the problem i have is that the clutch bites very high, it dos not slip and gear change seems fine.
Is this normal for citroens and can i adjust the clutch manually?

for a good 6 month now i've been going through a long winded process of having to prime the fuel system to start the car. Obvious thing to check was the piping for air. Thoguh issolation it doesn't seem to be the supply pipes return pipes or leak off pipes, i've also changed the priming bulb to a brand new one!

I've finally tracked down the approximate location of a fuel line air leak. On sitting for a while bubbles slowly start appearing from the line going into the Lucas injection pump. I've tried replacing the copper washers on the banjo pipe connection and wrapping the bleed screw with PTFE tape (including covering the hole on the shaft), but still...

If the non return valve has worked it suggests the leak is after it. I bet it is the fuel filter itself. But who cares it is fixed now :D

Don't think so: you could watch bubbles come from the injection pump going back towards the filter, so the air must have come from downstream of the filter.

hi all
i have a 2002 C5 2.0hdi sx.yesterday on the way back from a long run i was checking the fuel consumption on the trip computer when it locked up when i got to overspeed on pushing the end of the wiper stalk did nothing.when i got home i disconnected and reconnected the battery which cleared the trip and returned it to time date and radio...

That's interesting stuff. I got my first C5 (HDI 110 SX) two weeks ago. Pushing the end of the wiper stalk does not get me to the trip computer either. Also pulling it forward does not activate the screen washer, and occasionaly when using the indicator stalk to turn right it does not operate.

Therefore I am suspecting I too have a dodgey...

Hi. Would appreciate any suggestions....have recently developed a rough idle... reminicent of a missfire on petrol mtrs... goes smooth as soon as I increase revs above idle, I havent done anything to cause air in the fuel system, in fact havent done anything except change oil and filter in the last month :oops: Clues please :)

Problem; Rear suspension refuses to rise on engine start. Rises, albeit reluctantly,after one minute or so when cabin adjustment lever set to high.

I have noticed that when i first start the car it takes about 2 minutes for the stop light to go out and the car to rise to normal position. This also occurs when i put it to 'high' - often taking maybe 3 mins.

I agree with Mandrake, the softness/hardness of the ride is controlled solely by the spheres, the only way it could be different is different spec spheres. Maybe you have non hydractive ones?

On the slow rise problem, another thing to check is the hydraulic pump drive belt tension, they can look tight but still slip.

As I've said before, I have a 1.8 16v petrol W-Reg Xantia, it has climate control air-con, would that mean it has a pollen filter, if so where is it? and how often does it need changing?

If not can I fit one, I'm really doing a good impression of the Tunes bloke at the moment (you know the one cad I hab a virst cladth dicket do...

One addition to Alan's description:
Some cars have the pollen filter cover screwed on as Alan described, but others (later?) have a cover that unclips when pushed to one side (to the right I think). If you pull one of these covers stright down, you will break the plastic clips.

I'm in the middle of doing the heater matrix on my Xantia hDi Exclusive.

Someone's been here before, and messed the job up, so I'm trying to do it properly and fix as many problems at once as I can.

The Blower motor has had all it's wires chopped at some point, and only some of them refitted.

I think you can lower a Xantia without any real problems and indeed I think the Activa lowers itself when it detects its running on straight fast roads like motorways. This is to improve stability and lower drag.

My nice shiny new (W reg?) Xantia (see the other new here thread) is a standard petrol variant, and I was wondering about the general opinion about LPG conversion.

I have found a website that claims to have a kit/unit that will bolt straight into the injection system, and so doesn't need the head to be drilled or whatever, all you need to do is...

a petrol Xantia @ 30mpg covering 10000 miles a year with fuel at £4.40 a gallon will cost £1452

the equivalent diesel Xantia @ 40mpg will cost £1100

if the Xantia petrol was converted you could expect say 28-29mpg due to the lower calorific content and also approx
15-20% drop in power but with LPG at £1.81 a gallon...

My 93 VSX 1.9 Td has developed a fault,Car starts and rises to normal level,on moving off the rear suspension dips about 3-4 inches (also if brake applied soon after moving ) then recovers and may not do it again all day, just when moving off after leaving the car and the suspension has sunk
I think and have been told it may be the accumulator...

Hello,
Been a while since I last wrote (no problems!!). However, I was pulling my caravan last weekend and thought the C5 was down on power - runs OK but when peddle to the metal - little acceleration. Only had the car for a year but I swear it had more go in it then than now. Anybody else out there had similar experiences? Tried it again today...

Try to clean the air flow sensor. It's the first plug on the inlet manifold after the filter box.
Take it apart carefully and aplly a degreaser for electronic components that leaves *NO* residues.

Well, today is a sad day.

I must report that our beloved AX 1.5D 5dr has given in to the rot, and gone for a meeting with the crusher today.

Alas, it was only last friday, that after having some DIY repairs done, and with about 267k on the clock, she was to go for the MOT - but when jacking up the front to tighten some bolts, the jacking point...

Just received telephone call from me' BIL updating me regarding the ABS intermittent dash light.

He took it to a local garage (where he's been a couple of times) for a read out on the faults for the ABS. The chap said that their appears to be 3 abs fault read outs which he suggested is through the life of the car and that they have never been...

Have been doing a little more investigation. My new car is a 97 Xantia with air con. The blower seems very weak. It works on all speeds but does not seem as powerful as the one on my old non air con car. The air con needs re-gassing but I'm not bothered unless that is something to do with the weak fan.

The car also has ABS as the ECU and control...

If the ECU displays a fault then surely thats a fail!
If theres no warning light being displayed and no faults are checked then surely its a pass!

I was wondering if people could offer some good advise when looking at a car.

I've a MKII Saxo 1.1 that's done 172,000miles and for the main part it's been pretty good.

The problem at the moment is that it runs fine until I get between 3500 and 4000RPM and then it starts to stutter. It also runs fine above this RPM.

My initial thoughts were the spark plugs, but they look fine (light brown deposit). I've let the car tick...

I bought a cheap fault-code-reader which identified a problem with injector 3. I've wiggled the wire and the problem has finally gone away!

If you want a cheap reader for your car check this link: . It works fine for post 2000, but you could contact the dealer for a suitable reader for pre 2000 cars (All dependent on make and model).

Can anyone confirm that it is an EOBD OBD2 type fault code reader that I require to help diagnose my poorly Saxo?

I know the port is different to MKI Saxo's, but wansn't sure if my assumption is correct.

Well, I finally took the plunge and bought one after talking to the nice people at . They suggested that the U480 CAN-BUS ODB II model was most likely to work and for less than £40 it was well worth it. This model works with a 2001 Saxo, but covers such a wide variety of protocols I guess I’ll be using it here there and everywhere!

Hi all, can any of you give me a hand as one of the bulbs on my C5 dash has gone. It’s the multifunction display it only lights up on one side now so I was wondering if any of you have changed the bulbs in the unit yet and how did you do it. :?:

Hello All,

I have seen this mentioned on the site before and it caused a bit of a stir as no-one else seemed to believe the claimant.

My ABS light started going on and off today so there is plainly an intermittent fault somewhere.

About 2 months ago, the ABS kicked in at walking pace(after just being started). It turned out the rear caliper was leaking on the kerb side.

Hey all, I've changed my Xantia again, this time for a new style, 133K 1.9TD. It's rather nicer than the earlier models! It's had a ton of work done in the last year too (head gasket, abs sensors etc).

Thanks to all for your help. After new oil today and a good run with injector cleaner it's quite clear the turbo is working fine afterall :)

The electrovalve connected to the cold-start diaphragm is open circuit, so I'm looking for one of those. Connecting the vacuum pump direct to diaphragm somewhat slows the idle speed.

Internal blower fan failed completely just when you need the ac in this weather!. Ignition switch contacts and relays were fine. Took the fan out to investigate and found the brushes were almost non existant. The forcing spring were about to kiss the rotor.
Scarppy sells the fan for £60 (dubious history) and autofactor shops are selling...

While you’re inside the fan motor, take the brushes to an auto electrician, and ask for a pair of brushes ‘like these’. :?
If they’re not the exact same, you can file them down to size.

Hi,
I changed my idle speed stepper motor (if that's how it's called),
how can i reset it?
What should i do now? the enginge still shut's down on idle speed (mostley when the RPM's coming down from around 3000-4000).
How can i check if the idle speed motor is working?
Also there is a small bold on the throttle wheel, that can raise the idle rpm,...

Rechecked system with multimeter at ABS multi pin connector (everything checked out OK. :)

My 2000 HDi started to become very bumby at a point where it could actually jump the front almost (like american pimped up rides). I changed the spheres - both front ones leaked with the wrong size seals so used old ones. All fluid leaked out, the rear ones were very hard to get off and the whole strut dropped with a splatter of fluid on the ramp...

ok guys heres the script.

The suspension is quite bouncy but not in a hard way, if the car is parked up you can also bounce it with your weight easily at the front (not tried back) end to end of strut. Also looked at the invoice and there is a problem with the Amtek Spheres:

GSF No N45366 (rear)
GSF No N45332 (front)

Are these the correct ones...

1997 TD Xantia. I have had this car for 6 years with few problems until now.

Just be sure that the piece you've fitted has enough flexibility in it to soften the stress between the engine and the firewall as we have had a couple of those that have snapped the plastic fitting that comes through the firewall from the matrix.
It seems that due to a combination of heat and age, they get quite brittle and if there's any stress...

My 1994 1.9 TD has developed a small oil leak running down the back of the engine.

I cannot see anything from the top looking down and its very difficult laid on your back looking up.

What oil pipes are traving round the back of the engine bay and are there any know problems with leaks here ?

Rocker cover leaks run back there as well as the left hand side oilway (head gasket) I have a slight leak there too, it can wait until the engine comes out really.

Steering... after standing for a couple of weeks, with no previous fault: on starting and subsequently, steering feels 'assisted' most of the time but 'unassisted' occasionally - it seems esp. just after braking. In essence, 'tight/slack' as steering wheel is turned - but not consistent, so I'd guess hydraulics not seized balljoint etc. Any ideas...

I own an S reg Xantia V6 Exclusive. It does not have a keypad immobiliser, it has a remote key plip that is RF not IR. If I lock the car with the plip (lock & deadlock) it all seems fine but a few minutes after the alarm will sound and continue until I press the open button on the plip. It has only recently started doing this and it doesnt matter...

There are two common faults with the Xantia alarm system.

One is water getting to the control unit under the seat.

The other is faulty ultrasonic sensors, these are fairly cheap and easy to replace.
On the Mk 2 xantia the alarm is controlled by the CPH unit which is located behind the glovebox so i think we can rule the water fault out.just...

I followed primo's advice and give it a tap with a hammer! which got the fans spinning again.After a few more taps!! with the hammer the fans now comes on when it is meant to

It looks like a real pain to get the fan moter off from the front so hopefully it will be OK.

I think I have drag. The only sympton is when selecting reverse, if I do not push the clutch right to the floor hard (into the carpet!) there is a grate when selecting reverse. All other gears are fine when stationary or moving. I have tried adjusting the nut on the end of the cable but no better. It is as if it needs to go that bit further beyond...

My 2 button plip stopped flashing the red led so I thought it needed new batteries but after replacing them still no led and no remote locking :(

Well I used the WD-40 in August 2005 and the plip is still working very well.

If your getting annoyed with the range of the plips then you can buy one of these RF (Radio Frequency?) boxes that you add to your wiring which vastly improves the distance (even better than this brand new Fiesta) for opening the car, although you obviously have to use...

my m.o.t on my xantia is now due and one of the problems apart from a faulty abs sensor is the drivers door, the hinge has come away at the weld on the door and also the door handle is bust so i've got a Replacement door, i've tried to remove the door pins but they seem very tight i was wondering if anyone has any tips for removing them :)

If this is what's panning out to be the case on my latest acquisition what can I expect? Is the best course of action a total engine swap or do I lift the head and repair the valves - aren't the bottom ends stronger than the valves anyway? Not sure about bore damage that's the only thing...
