does not start when not locked staight away

at the moment my citroen synergie plays up.if i am talking at a mates door step i get out of the car but don't lock it after a couple of minutes i go back to the car but it does not start it sounds like the imobileizer has not switched off no mater how many times i try it just will not start.on occations i have left the car ther and walked back the next day where its started first time.has anyone had the same problem and how did they fix it

Not personally and not with a Citroen but my eldest daughter's Mini and youngest daughters Saab both immobilise themselves automatically if the keys are removed from the car for more than five minutes.
