Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Looking at the Citroen website, the V6 petrol has vanished from the C5. Does anyone know if its going to be replaced? It is in the top band for tax so I can see why they got rid of it. Perhaps not enough were sold to allow further development?
I can see its still available on the C6.

I have taken the below from a previous thread which discussed lowering a ZX. It was questioned if it was a good idea and generally seemed to get a negative response. Then this was written and seemed pretty solid rather than just opinions. I am not really up on joints when lowering but can well imagine lowering can create problems. So, not trying...

Every few minutes the indicator relay starts clicking very rapidly even without moving the stork to indicate.
I replaced the relay with a spare and exactly the same thing happens.
Could it be the contacts on the stork or dodgy wiring that is causing this

Yep, it's the indicator switch causing it. You should find it will stop if you wiggle the switch up and down. If you're lucky you might also get a burning smell and some wisps of smoke out of the switch :lol:

hi all
im removing fan assembly from my 1996 1.9d xantia and need to get front bumper off
have followed haynes (bol) manual but cant get to front bumper screws/bolts as i dont have fog lights and book says to get to them i need access through front fog light space in bumper
my bumper does not have holes for fog lights any panels are not pop out...

After getting my car back from the garage, I noticed the bonnet did not shut properly and one side was not flush with the wing. I couldn't face going back to the garage to complain so left it a few days untill it bothered me enough to have a look. Found a screw driver down one side in the gap where it shuts. Shuts fine now.

Though we didn't exactly gain the tool, we did have a similar situation with the CX.
Mum took it to the dealer to get some parts for the Dyane and when she was about to leave the CX wouldn't start.
The service manager as a gallant gesture rushed out, cleaned the plugs and slammed the bonnet down.

A nearby friend has a '95 or thereabouts 1.9TD Xantia and he commented today that there is a slow leak at the rear of the engine somewhere above the turbo (is this right? Is the turbo at the rear? I thought it was in front?)

Anyway, he reports that the leak drops a small quantity of oil onto the exhaust and provides the typical resultant smell. I...

a good idea would be to gunk the engine and powerwash it, then run it to find out where the leak is. Normally it is the rocker cover gasket.

My 2002 Xantia Hdi 110 has a couple of problems I am hoping someone can help me with. The first is that every now and again the steering feels ever so slightly heavier than normal when turning on fairly slow tightish bends. Update to this is that the Citroen specialist was indeed spot on. New column U/J fitted and steering is back to like new. I had a look at the old U/J and it is fine in one plane but almost solid in the other hence the tightening up as you increased lock. You live and learn at least the LHM fluid has now been changed after 6.5 years.

hi guys,

on my second xantia now, and time has come for new front tyres and tracking, got them done, but for the love of god, why can't these 'mechanics' do the friggin tracking properly?? ok maybe 'technically' the tracking was ok, but when the steering wheel was at 1 o clock before they did it, and 2 o clock after the did it, and then still on...

TIP OF THE DAY: tyres may look good, and be at the right pressure, but there are some weird hidden problems that may give a false alignment reading!

apaologies if this is a rerun/crossover of other posts but here goes

i am now aware that my xantia 1.9d lx has anti-sink which at present is not working. :roll:
i have checked with local dealers and the spec says it has anti-sink and they very kindly gave me a quote for the 2 rear spheres and the anti-sink sphere :cry:

if its soft to push down it is more than likely fine, when spheres are partly or fully flat the suspension will be firm or hard dependent on how flat the spheres are, so the more they are flat the less movement you will feel

I know this goes against what I've read on this forum but when I bought the car the ABS light did not illminate at all (I didn't even know it had ABS!) until I replaced the fuse :shock:
Now I find the light comes on permanently and stays on until the ignition is turned off, indicating a fault.
Using the helpful posts here I unplugged both front...

ok i am trying to help a friend with her zx

its a L reg 1.9 diesel without power steering

thing is it has a strange metallic 'scruping' noise coming from the nearside front..... the noise usually occurs on overrun and goes away if you accelerate or brake

the noise occurs whether the car is in gear or not and is occuring from 40mph upwards...

hi guys

once again my sunday peace has been shattered summoned to diagnose a fault on a friends car :(

this was easy to find....there is a huge fuel leak coming from the area around the fuel pressure regulator....i checked the pipes and replaced the hose clips but that hasnt cured it.....

before i take my big socket set to it can anybody give...

today was working on citroens day......turned out it was just a pinhole leak in the pipe but i have ended up replacing both hoses from the tank to the engine (thinking being that if that bit of hose has started to go the rest could follow)

my local car factors was selling fuel hose at £17 for ten metres (pearl parts) so its not a dear job...

Sadly it seems to be the sensor itself. I cannot get any reading at all with the meter at any point down the lead. Even taken it back to the final clip holding it in place near the disc.

Looks like a replacement one at some point but definitely worth a try and thanks for all your help on this one

Hi all. My M Reg Xantia 1.8i has just failed its MOT on a couple of things and I hope that someone can help me source the parts I need. The failure points are:
1. (front of gearbox) fluid suspension unit leaking.
2. Rear fluid suspension unit leaking.
3. Nearside front steering rack gaiter split.

Please can someone tellme where Ican get the parts...

5 seconds for the rear to rise is a bit quick - there is actually a delay mechanism built into the height corrector to prevent too-rapid movements. If all seems OK then its probably of no significance.

Glad to hear regulator and height corrector are not leaking. I got an advisory on a leaking height corrector on my BX - which was spray grease on...

First attempt at adding a pic so forgive if this doesn't work first time.

In the middle of the picture (between the heater hose left and the airfilter box right, held on by one of the (bellhousing?) bolts) seems to be an unused metal spade tab which looks to me like it may be an earth connector but I cannot find any loose leads to re-attach to...

Its time to change the belts on my xantia.I have done the aux belt before and will be doing the auto spring tensioner as well( i think my belt the last change was too small and has pulled the auto tensioner off line again, expensive mistake).

I thought it would be good to do the cam belt at the same time, so with my haynes to hand does anybody...

Do you need to get the pulley off the crankshaft? - you don't on a TD BX but that doesn't have a damped pulley. You do have to remove a small plastic cover held on with 2 bolts and then the belt can be maneuvered out and in without excessive twisting.

Just got our recently aquired A1 condition Xasra spot on with all jobs up to date.... and someone in a Vectra runs into the back of it tonight as the good lady was stopped at a pedestrian crossing!

Anyone know Whats the difference between a N17010, a N17018 and a N17024 water pumps, mechanically ??

Do they have different pumping capacities or different design in shape etc.

I know it should be a N17018 for my ZX, but why are 3 pumps listed at GSF for a TD.

I had no problems whatsoever removing the bayonet clip, or (after geasing it up well,) was it a problem to reconnect.. What did cause megga problems was the pesky O ring on the end!! The new one was too big to go in!! Even the old one was too hard for me, :oops: fortunately Stewart (oilyspanner) was strong enough to get the pipe back in for me.....

Newly registered user MikeT who recently bought a used Xantia and is extremely confused over proper identification of model/engine/injection etc.

V5 says '98 Xantia 1.9 TD Tempt 2 which is the year they changed the model :?

Haynes (BOL as you call it) says it's a MKII because the intercooler is in front of the radiator....

It is recognised there are Phase 1 models, Phase 1.5 models and Phase 2 models. There is also a Phase one and three quarter, of which mine is!

As the Activa and the Td have finally both died :( and I recently put new Michelin tyres on the Activa I thought I would keep the alloys for the HDi when it needs new tyres.

Is there any reason this is a bad idea, The tyre size is the same.

One of my rear spheres wobbles, its not in any danger of falling off the car, but I'm just wondering if the garage is going to fail me on it, its not leaking LHM or anything, and the pipes all look fine.

In the estate that I picked up over the weekend, it looks as though there was a large LHM leak into the passenger footwell. Unfortunately it's stained the carpet :(

I haven't tried cleaning yet, but is there any point? Will it actually come out? If it will, whats the best thing to clean with? Or is it a new carpet jobby?

This is my first post to what I have found to be a very good forum. Can anyone help with this. I am installing a portable sat nav unit into my C5 (EXC HDi 2005) and while looking around I found that the std roof aerial also contains a satellite aerial with a lead disapearing into the head lining. I have looked behind the radio but cannot find it....

OK so coincidentally (I hope) since I had that tyre fitted and both front wheels balanced, on slight left or right turns of the s wheel when maneuvering what is best described as a momentary impolite noise can be heard from the steering system (power).

Thanks to this forum I've identified a loose pipe that should go to the EGR valve - which explains why my car always idles a little high (appx1000rpm). From what I've read, it's ok to NOT have EGR but is it ok to have the pipe unplugged (will it cause any problems) or should I seal it off with a bung or something?

Hi Gregg1100, I have an engine silhoutte light with an asterisk I think, in the middle that comes on with the ignition and soon goes out. It has never lit up out of turn on me even when I had both ABS and airbag on constantly. Does that mean something to you? I'm not sure what should or shouldn't trigger the engine management light though suspect...

Well, as you may have noticed, I have sold the Activa, and bought an estate.

Swings and roundabouts really. The estate is newer, more economical and more practical than the Activa, however it's not as fun to drive and has virtually done 3 times as many miles as the Activa had done. On the bright side however, it's my brother that now has it, so...

Hi All,
I have just removed the cog box from my Xant. I managed to get the lump out without removing oil tank and all the other stuff sitting over the gearbox mounting. How I get it all back is another story.
My main comment is: WHAT the hell advantage is a pull clutch.? That is just plain over the top. Trust my luck to get a car with one...

I found an advert for clutches on ebay, that points out that TD's use a pull clutch as well as the 16v Xant. And I have just bought an S reg, series 2 Xantia, the 1.9 TD, --and you have guessed it, bloody pull type clutch. Three of the things in same family. Aaaarrrrrhhhhhhh. Hi,

My 1996 Xantia 1.9TD is experiencing intermittent functioning of the IR remote fob. Sometimes it will lock a few times before just failing to work, other times it will work once and then an attempt straight after will produce nothing and it will stay that way for multiple attempts until later on it'll work again.

If it is the same as the 306 then you can do the 2 different keys one after the other and it will remember both.

i.e.
Turn on ignition
Press & hold key 1 a few cm from the sensor
Press & hold key 2 a few cm from the sensor
Turn off ignition

However, you will need a 3rd key to do the ignition part for this.

Just to put back some of what I took out of this forum.
I consulted a Citroen techie about my airbag light staying on and he told me 90% of these are due to the connectors under the seat. He suggested cleaning and reseating them ( batt disconnected and left for 10+ mins first!) several times if necessary but this only fixed my fault for a few...

Hi everyone.

I have recently purchased a 1998 1.9TD Xantia estate lx. (S reg). Anti-sink, A/C, etc. etc. 160K. on the clock. Seemed a bargain at £650 ! :D Especially as it had new tyres, new radiator and water pump, recon. head, new timing belt... Little did I know what was in store for me!!! :(

I recently did them on my Activa, allowing an hour each side will give you plently of time.

Likewise the rear arm bushes were worn, the new arms have made the Activa feel 'fresh'.

An hour each side for a competent machanic, that means I'll have to set aside a day and a half. :lol:

Looks like I'll have to invest in a decent ball joint...

I'm toying with idea of getting a 3.0 V6 C5 Exclusive to complement my Citroen Xantia 2.0i Turbo Activa (no i am not mad!)

My questions are

1.) How often are the cam belt changes? I have seen some bargins with 44,000 miles on a clock, i do not want to spash out on an expencive cam belt change as soon as i buy one.

Mine's a 2.2 HDI and I changed my spheres at 70k, and they needed it. Gone for 'comfort' now and it's a big improvement. I seem to remember in Cit's blurb the spheres should last 5 years or 125000 miles!! Incidentally, I do tow a caravan for about 3000 miles a year and that might have helped knock out the back ones, they were the worst.

Another problem on my newly acquired estate - one of the rear seats is stuck. Looks like the catch mechanism is buggered.

The problem is, that the release button is stuck down, the small indicator button beside it is missing, and the seat won't release. As far as I can see, the only way to get to the internals of the mech is when the seat is down...

Has anyone had to change a powersteering ram on a BX? Mine has been leaking for a while now and I wondered how easy the job was. In thery and according to teh haynes manual it isn't that difficult; although haynes only shows pictures of a left hand drive.
Looking under tha car the two pipes look a bit arkward to get to as the exhaust front pipe...

I am being quoted anything from £270-£300 (£650 main dealer!!) from various garages to have the cam belt,tensioners and water pump replaced on my Synergie 1.9td. I have been told that it is about a five hour job. However I have found a mechanic that will do it for £200 on his day off.

If not already done - replace the fuel hose from filter to pump with a clear one which will instantly tell you if air bubbles are present. Air is not allowed in diesel engines fuel system.

Not sure if the fuel consumption would go up, you'll feel more power because the turbo will be working better lower down the engine range, whether this means more fuel consumption i'm not sure (i doubt it will break the bank), but it will be more 'efficient'.

I have recently fitted a set of cheap glow plugs that I bought off ebay.
(£13.00 for a set). I found that plug no 3 was non operational.

Initially the start up was much improved. However now I need to preheat the glow plugs around 3 times to get a good clean start. (Or she smokes very badly)

Can anyone say if a TDC sensor taken from an early 1.8 petrol Xantia is the same as used on the electronic Bosch equipped 1.9TD?

I'd be 99% sure it would be fine - as Alan says, a magnetic/hall effect pick up sensor should be the same; it doesn't know what fuel the engine runs on!

Only difference could be the length/mounting of the sensor itself, but F**d use different housing castings rather than different sensors for pretty much their whole range of late 80's and early...

My AX I got £175 from Admiral inc business cover. In fact they lowered it from the renewal quote when I rang to add business cover in.

The Saxo I've stuck with M&S as you get the full breakdown cover included, and that was £250ish.

Both have £250 excesses.
