Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

As there is no haynes manual yet for the c5 is there a procedure for taking the pump off,it is rattling badly but no problems with the suspension or steering yet but dont wanna risk break down and is it true its £1200+ vat for a new one or am i gettin flanneled a breakers yard wanted £300 with no warranty for 1 from a y plate bit pricey these...

Hello. I am changing the gearbox in a year 2000 Synergie HDi, and have a couple of questions.
1. The two bolts securing the hub carrier to the strut had to be hammered out. They were so badly rusted in. Has anyone had a similar experience?
2. I am having great difficulty getting the RH driveshaft out. The intermediate bearing does not seem to be...

Morning folks,

My '97 ZX TD is in for its MOT as we speak, but it has also started to display some clutch slip, usually in a high gear as the turbo starts to boost.

My question is, as the pedal is quite high (the lightest pressure will disengage) is there some way I can adjust the pedal/clutch in order to avoid having to giver Mr Clutch the...

I'm pretty sure all ZX's used a manual adjust cable. It might be possible to adjust it out a bit (the adjustment is on top of the gearbox). Don't go expecting to see the inner of the cable (where the adjustment is) moving though - it doesn't - on these pull clutches the outer does the moving and work :shock:. Try letting the cable out a few turns...

My BX was my first diesel and the guy I bought it off seemed to think all diesels were like that (with hindsight, the diesel Transit I used to drive wasn't although I never thought of that at the time)

The dear Bling blew it's head gasket just before new year - a week after having the clutch changed!!! Now at 184k I wouldn't mind but it's getting a real pain...

HELP!!

1. I cannot get the old water pump out. Its rear is cylindrical and stepped so I guess it's a tight fit. But it's solid. Presumably furred in with the stuff that sods up...

Thanks for your input guys. I've been away from a pc of late. I'll recheck the mechanical timing but I'm pretty sure it's ok. Keyways on the crank and camshafts were in good order so they are unlikely to have slipped. I'd have thought that if I'd put it back together wrong I'd have valve/piston contact problems. The flywheel was locked in the only...

My air bag warning light is flashing for a short while then stays on. Can anyone give me a remedy for this.

Ebay aside where can I source 2nd hand spares for Xantias? I've just bought a Xantia Exclusive Estate with a damaged rear wing, couple of non working electric windows and knackered indicator stalk. Hi Guys,

My mum has a 1997 R Reg (series 1) V6 Xantia Exclusive.

Whenever she starts the car to go anywhere, or even leaves the ignition on the 2nd stage before engaging the starter motor her fans are flying at full blast.

Have had a quick search and cant find anything. The problem i had was my fans wouldn't spin at all.

Is the 2.1 engine any good???
Is it the same engine as the 1.9 but bored out or what?

They are pretty well bomb proof apart from the head gasket, these tend to fail at around 150k. Make sure that car has plenty of antifreeze, you can test by dipping your finger in the water and tasting it, it should be very sweet, lack of it will cause premature failure. Also check the the cooling system is not being pressurised and that no water...

Ok im going to replace all the spheres on my xantia in the next 2 weeks after i'm paid(YIPPY!) and was wondering if its worth saving the £13 per sphere going for the GSF generic ones compared to the genuine citroen ones?

as it would save me £78 in total by going for the cheaper ones but if im going to end up replacing them in a year or so it...

Hi people,
I'm wondering if those more technically minded can help me here.
I'm thinking (if it works of course) of potentialy making the use of fitting an mp3 player to the jack at the front of the Blaupunkt 3030 rad/cass I have in the xantia. Is this possible?
Are there any drawbacks with applying this idea to this particular rad/cass player?...

Hi, although the car's always been lumpy at idle, it has definitely turned into a misfire. I'm intending to change the HT leads (I know the resistance has broken down on them as I got a bit of a shock from them the other day), the distributor cap and rotor and spark plugs. But I'm a bit concerned.

Haven't found a car I want yet so it is engine change time now.

Got a few questions though,

Haynes says engine and box come out together,
is that true? Can I leave the gearbox in the car?

Will there be any differences in fitting the new engine?

Before you get involved in an engine change there is a hdi for sale in the for sale section, for £250, it might be a better bet, as it is newer, the seller is over your side of the world, south wales. It is mixing oil and water, but a head gasket must be easier than an engine swap, and the hassle of swapping diesel pumps etc, worth a look.

I have 'rescued' a ZX 1.9 D leader estate (white) from my boss's garage where it has been sitting since October 2005! New battery and it started up fine. I have given it its first wash - although it has been kept dry it has been stored near the sea and got coated in wind-blown sand.

I got everything I needed bar the rear fog lens (it was cracked) plus some interior trim and a set of roof bars for 20 quid.

Did the usual oil and filer change this weekend (every 5,000) and for first time noticed TWO drainplugs on sump - one in the usual place and another about 3 cms above.

What's this for?

I've just made something similar for my Ford and it works very well. The danger is in the test load you use. An LED draws very little current compared to a bulb for instance, and drawing too much current will fry the output driver in the ECU, rendering it useless for diagnostics. Obviously you want to take all standard electric/electronic...

As I'm thinking about another Xantia at the minute Im debating these engines.

I've never driven an Hdi so am a little disadvantaged.
Before I go test drive them theres things I need to know anyway, it might not be a suitable engine for me anyway.
Veg oils not a factor, I know Hdi can't use it

Has anyone here had both?
If so what did you think of...

The only job that is substantially more difficult is the head gasket, but as you are unlikely to have to do it more than once, if at all, I wouldn't worry to much about it.

The XM's all had mechanically governed fuel pumps untill '96, it wouldn't be to difficult to fit one to a Xantia.

The heating blower has stooped working altogether in my xantia. The heating still works as I can feel it very slightly but the blower is not working at all. It started to die a couple of months back and would come on sporadically and then just slowly die away. Now its just dead and every time it rains the windows steam up and its just a nightmare....

Totally dead now is still the same fault, the switch has packed up for good.
A relay modification will fix that:

The normal temperature indication is 80ºC on most models.
When the engine gets hot, check that both cooling fans are spinning.
Air in the cooling system also causes overheat.

Sadly, I have to post that my 1999 xantia is no more :-({|=
My dear wife was driving it, when, two stupid women walked out onto a zebra crossing without looking. The car in front of my wife slammed on to stop, my wife slammed on, but seeing as it was in a hail storm, the road was ice covered and bang!!!!! The cars were doing no more than 20mph....

Have just returned to French cars by purchasing my third Xantia this time an HDI Exclusive Estate. It has a few little problems as expected..

The door trim that is clipped in to the outside door keeps un clipping itself. The trim pushes back in fine but quickly pops out again. This happens with both front doors. Any ideas please?

Hi folks. In the middle of choosing my first Xantia. It's the Forte model and doesnt have an arm rest. Does anyone know if it's possible to add an armrest from a different spec model or is the seat different (No mounting point?). Thanks for any help.

You can buy generic ones from ebay that you just bolt into the centre console on the xantia. Not made specifically for the xantia but im sure if you measured the centre console width at the mounting points the sellers would be able to tell you if it would fit or not.

You can't easily is the simple answer - the 'code' is hard wired onto the PCB by earthing certain pins on the chip. I remember that were some instructions somewhere on re-coding a BX remote - it involves a steady hand a fine soldering iron!

Hi Folks,
Hope you can give me some advice here.
Today for the fisrt time in ownership (I've had the car over 2yrs) the Xant

I've just looked at my MKII Activa and the centre lap belt is totally conventional and lies in an untidy mess on the back seat whereas on my MKI it stows neatly in an inertia reel. What a retrograde step :( The MKII seat does have a clip to stow the centre lap belt tidily when not in use on top of the squab but it's impossible to train the kids to...

Going up a BIG hill with the caravan on the rear last Saturday, and steam/ smoke started coming out of the fresh air vents in the centre of the dash (they were open at the time).

The temp started to rise, but I stopped it by putting the heater on.

On arrival at my destination some 5-6 miles further on, I notice water leaking out under the car....

same symptons when my matrix started going (though radweld held it until i scrapped the car).... the old bx used to suffer a head gasket failure where it 'blew' into the cooling system....thus increasing the pressure in the cooling system.... if you have similar failure it could have blown the matrix

tricky to spot as well as you dont get any of...

I have a Berlingo van on a 52 plate, straight 1.9 diesel (DW8 engine).

Done it!
I decided not to remove the clamp! I just undid all the bolts and all the wiring and pipes to it, also the clamp on the side of the engine holding the pipe down, and then just manouvered the air distributor around and worked around it!
Got all the new plugs in. It was only one that had died!

Morning all,

Friend of mine has a 2002 Xsara Picasso 1.9TD which died. He previously had a problem with the lift pump in the tank which was solved by banging the bottom of the tank. A local garage has confirmed that the lift pump has now died.

How difficult is this to change and whats the method ?

Aren't the Xsara and Picasso floor pans the same? If the Picasso rear seat will lift, why not get a Xsara plug from a breaker , take some measurements and cut an access hole.

I am just wondering if xantia sunroofs drain like BX ones, ie the water is allowed to drip down onto the headlining and then drains down via 4 tubes, one at each corner?

Does anyone know if the transponder for the immoiliser is in the key fob (blip) or the little bit of plastic on the key blade.

I need help on this because the QC at local dealers is doing my head in.

Hi all

there is a 2000 2.0HDi Xantia on ebay that wont run because it needs a new 'fuel pump'. I doubt I will take the plunge, but am wondering is this likely to be the diesel injection pump or do these have an auxiliary lift pump in the system to help out the injection pump?

Bosch systems use a low pressure in-tank lift pump that is prone to failure any time after 60k miles, but there is no lift pump on Siemens systems. It seems unlikely that anyone would list a car for spares / repair for failure of the lift pump, which only costs a £100 or so (not at...

I've just bought myself an insurance cat d 2004 C2Hdi 102K miles..with some low down front end damage.. I need to replace the rad and mounts and the front bumper/spoiler.
Does anyone here have any experience of the C2?

re-wire the radio with only battery live,ignition live & an earth (+ the speaker wires) connected to it,the problem is that the multiplexed wires are connected to the aftermarket radio but the BSI cant comunicate with it.
You will probably find that there is no ignition live at the back...

I'm just running alternative scenarios through my mind to decide whether

After a few days of intermittent starting o the old zx td, leaving work now (8pm) it eventually had enough. The booster pack didn't help either, so something somewhere must be killing something.

Been through something similar recently.

Foolish garage coudn't fid anything wrong & replaced battery for good measure. Wise garage found that that the earth strap was corroded WITHIN the connector - not outwardly visible (I had wire-brushed the terminal).

I also recall there are 2 earth straps - 1 to the gearbox & another somewhere?

I got a radiator fromt he scrappy

My pipes go OVER the radiator connector, and clamp

the radiator that arrived fits OVER the pipe. Obviously i have no way of securing as the radiator part is solid plastic

Any tips?

Do i need new pipes or can i get my current pipe to attach somehow?

the breaker obviously couldnt be bothered to take off the...

In the space of a day my newly acquired Xantia's ride has gone from perfect to uncomfortably hard at the rear.

Spheres are just over a year old and I believe they were regassed versions.

The height corrector seems to work OK, in that it reaches any set height after say 30 seconds. It is terribly rusty though!

The rear does sag quite fast once...

I'm thinking aloud so by all means ignore - but has anyone found a way to prevent corroded-on spheres then?

e.g. Copper grease? Waxoyl? WD40 regularly?

It seems to me the threads we're battling against are internal to the hydraulic system, so I'm not sure copper grease could be recommended - maybe a coating of PTFE-containing spray (GT85) prior...

I have a xantia 1.9TD estate

The last two time I have checked my fuel consumption it has only been returning 33MPG is this normal, I am fairly heavy footed with it but thought is should return more than this.

Any ideas where to start looking for faults?

A good place to start looking for sticky brakes is the rears. Crud (technical term), due to the reaction of the two metals, builds up between the suspension arm and the brake caliper. This always builds up as a wedge and forces the brake caliper out of alignment. First rubbing pad to disk, then rubbing caliper to disk!

Evening all,

Friend of mine has just rang. He has a 2002 Xsara Picasso with 1.9 engine. It will start and fire, run for about 10 seconds and then cut out. In the time it starts it will rev but then dies. He says he is low on fuel so I've told him to put a gallon of diesel in and ring me back. Suspecting diesel filter if the fuel doesnt solve it....

I agree it sounds like a LP fuel pump in the tank, unfortunitely you cant access it from under the seats its a drop the tank down job.
Get underneath it whack the lowest point nearest the filler neck with a rubber mallet whilst cranking it & it should kick into life. will need replace though with the seal.

Since replacing the crankshaft pulley & damper a worying noise developed and on inspection Jim found the crank bolt wasn't fully tight. I bought a new bolt and it's nice and tight now but the noise is getting worse, particularly on deceleration and idle. Hi, my 1.8 berlingo has an intermittent stalling/cutting out problem. On starting the car and in the first few miles of the journey, applying the brakes (either in neutral, clutch down or in gear at any rpm causes) means the revs die and the engine cuts out. This will happen a few times before it fixes itself and is ok for the rest of the journey...

Holy cow!!

My Dad reports exhaust has failed on his 02 Xsara HDi 90 - gone either side of the cat at the front. New section? £250 :shock:

Slightly worried, I looked up the price for the equivalent piece on my Xantia HDi 110. £360 :twisted: At least there is a repair pipe for the Xantia so if the long pipe goes at the back, it can be repaired...

After a quote of £140 to change the plugs i decided to go alone.

they have arrived.

So, any tips from previous experience, or should i get the one si can off and take anything in its way off aswell??

Going to soak the area in wd40 hours before too, even overnight

My only suggestion, apart from reading up the tips in the previous link is.

Warm the engine first, ally expands further than the steel plugs, this will help a lot, ok so you are gonna burn your pinkies on the head, but these will heal eventually and that costs nuffin! as opposed to cracking the ally around the glow plugs, this will not heal and...

I had that gasket fail and it led to fumes entering the venting system so if you have the fan on and smell fumes when statiionary for a minute or more you can be sure it's leaking.

I bought the OEM kit about £15 - gets you new bolts, springs, cups, washers and the original brillo pad. Reason being, I was told, is the pattern parts are not up to...
