LHM reservoir level

Post by Dommo »

I've got a quick question about the LHM reservoir..

I read somewhere that someone had enough LHM in their reservoir to be able to cover their index fingertip when they put it in the reservoir on service high, but I can't reach the LHM with my finger, and my guage says my LHM is full. So is it wrong??

Thanks, Dom.

Give the glass that houses the float a firm tap.

They can get stuck

Are you sure they didn't mean on low?
Perhaps you're like me and don't have piano players fingers :)

I do remember it saying on service high, but if you're not supposed to be able to reach it then that's fine! Although I may possibly have put some in to see if the float would move, and to see if I could reach it with my finger... Maybe possibly

Is too much LHM bad??

Cheers, Dom.

It's only bad if you like a clean resevoir.
Any excess just gets sloshed around and can spill out a bit.

Ahh, well in that case I probably did have too much in as the top of my reservoir is always wet, I just assumed it was a dodgy seal to be honest.

Thanks Xac. Dom.

I always thought my float was stuck until my rear ram started to leak. Now I know it works! (And the STOP light warning). :(

James, what news of your ram?

I've now done a repair of a leaky rear one and it's back on the car awaiting test... Just got to do the front one now...

Have you seen the reams of words about repairing them in the Activa area and my blog?

If it works, the cost is less than a tenner and about an hours' work (after removal from the car).

I've been following your progress with interest Jim. Mine has stopped leaking for now (so I think it's definitely something to do with the exceptionally cold weather). I'm going to get my Activa spheres regassed, probably by Westroen, and hope that will prevent further leakage when it gets chilly again. MOT time is November, but I'm tempted to go for a summer one instead.

Your repairs sound encouraging though - a much better solution that the original! I may be needing your help at some point... :)
