Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I haven't seen on here about it? Been told not to put bio diesel/WVO in an HDi or common rail diesel. and i know some people still try.
Also if you run on it heard on grapevine? and found out that heater plugs burn out alot quicker! as last year put new ones in beru ones and just had to replace them as some gone right through.

I hope you plusgassed those heatshield bolts! Also wire brush any extruded ends of the bolts as they may have grown since being fitted and they shear like butter after a few turns. When Toby seperated his rear caliper I didn't see any seals pop off or require renewing and they went back together ok. It's not necessary to split them anyway, is it?

While trying to drill out a bolt that sheared and left the stud flush in the hole, the drill snapped inside it, also shearing flush. It's a titanium drill bit and trying to drill it out with another titanium drill bit doesn't appear to work.

Is there a proven method to get out of this situation (preferred) or shall I just forget about it and try...

As noted by others I usually go for building up the bolt with a MIG welder set on a higher than normal setting but used in very short bursts. This has been sucessful on sheared bumper bolts on the XMs rear wrap around bumper. The intense heat certainly helps.

My Xantia start sinking a few seconds after i switch it off..?

Sometimes it can be a few mins but usually starts very soon after parking..It groans a bit like me when i get up in the morning.. :D

The Xantia I had, had a vibration at certain speeds. On looking through the service history it had been put down as a check point, according to the dealer the wheels were buckled. This seems to be a problem with alloys especially PSA and Renault according to some - even Car Mechanics mag commented that French alloys are 'soft'. The volvo ones...

All the images I have seen of these, show the green cam disc, which interacts with the 3 x microswitches, in a different position to mine.

Is it possible for Lexias and such like to read the gearbox ecu if it's removed from the car? The reason I ask is that last time Richard gave my Xantia a diagnostic his Lexia wouldn't talk to the gearbox ecu, although it seemed fine with the engine management ecu, and I'd like to get it checked for fault codes.

Last weekend my Xantia's rear window wiper stopped working. I have seen it made an attempt to wipe but the movement was like 5 cm and since than it stayed in that position. I checked it at the parking area. With the engine stopped, click sound of the relay can be heard when it's switched on.

Wiper motor is working again :D

The motor was suffering lack of lubrication and that caused mechanical problem. There were only some remains of a very clean and red colored grease. I think they didn't apply enough amount during manufacture because it can not disappear. It was well sealed and there were no leaks.

To be honest mate I would not bother with the aircon. My experience with fixing a compressor on an older car is that once done the pressure then finds any tell tale joints around the system, Before you know it you can end up spending a fortune on new joints and tracing etc.

Of course if you are in a place where the summers are unbearably hot...

My estate passed it`s mot today :) One advisory was rear silencer. It`s quite a big box.......but...is it needed? I suppose the answer is that it is.

However my understanding of turbo diesels id that the turbo it`self kills a lot of the noise and that a straight pipe at the back may suffice. I can fab something with welder. Anyone done away...

Not unless the power loss is when the engine is very hot as then it will be sucking in hot air (underbonnet) rather than cool outside air, other than that the issue is sucking in unfiltered air.

It's a CT turbo isn't it ?? That would make a tremendous difference to performance as all the boost pressure will be blowing out the split :)

Ok, so after the Waggel meeting in Holland (1000 miles) I need more speed from my AKSuper but without the revs but I want to do it properly and retro/classic as a Sidewinder should be by the experts.

So I have a specific shopping list of bits to get or things to do.

I now have a 5 speed box and 1 brand new drive shaft. Problem with fitting 2cv shafts is when you pull off the torque through the spined slidy bit causes the splines to twist and lock until you back off the power again...

All should be fine... thanks

we run a small fleet of these 03,04,54 & 55 starting out in 2000 with Y & then an 02 which have been disposed off.

the 03 has a mere 72k on it & is suffering from a lack of performance of coarse @ 71bhp they have never know fast, the way we work are 1st 3 yrs main dealer then servicing done by local garage this 03 does not smoke or vibrate, fuel...

I have pinpointed the fault to the switch (no short across terminals when pressed) and need to replace it - easier said than done!! Thanks for the tip - I will have a look for a manual. Perhaps I should clarify why I need to remove the wiper assembly in order to repair/replace the window opener switch - it is clamping the wires of the switch so I cannot remove them . Without removing the wires I cannot thread new wires from a new/repaired switch through the wiper assembly...

Hi gents

The titled autobox gave some trouble this evening although it may have been engine related i doubt it.
After coming down the dual carrageway at about 60 ish i came off on the slipway and upto the traffic lights where i stopped........and the engine nearly stalled, the warning lights all flashed up briefly then it idled away smoothly...

Both of the TCT engined cars I've owned are like this to a greater or lesser extent Dean. Seems almost to be a trait.

Sometimes I can watch the tacho needle swinging between 500 and 1000 rpm under such conditions. It soon clears and then...

Hi All
Had to do 2 airport runs, one yesterday and then one today (family not a taxi) then went to work after, on the way home i could hear what sounded like a very loose valve clearance, roughly half engine speed, not heavy but there when you drive past parked cars, 40 miles later when i got home, I had a look under the bonnet and exhaust smoke...

Looking at the tool it has an extension that goes into the hole for the injector port, doesnt say on the website about having to remove the head but yes the swarf would be a bit of a worry, was going to grind it with a hoover in the hole to get as much of the swarf as poss, plug if i greased the tool it should stick to the grease as well.

Hi Gang,

To start my Xantia I have to crank the engine over 25 to 26 times,then she kicks into life and runs beautifully. :)

But, once started running the key light flashes(immobiliser) and beeping sound starts.these disappear after 2 to 3 seconds. :?

I know this has been covered a few times, but was wondering if anyone had a deffinitive answer as to whether cruise control using original parts could be fitted to a 1.9td Mk 2 (manual) xantia?
Figured it will save me alot of foot cramp on the way to france!
Thought it would be useful to know before i start getting parts!

Hi All,

Malaysian weather are hot, i have heard two case happen to one fellow
all because of pipe touching, causing it to burst
and pipe having a hole which leak out lhm

so this mechanic of mine did modification to him
he uses bigger diameter pipe, no more problem to him

My question, anyone have experience this kinda failure

I assume your mechanic used a section of larger diameter pipe to repair the section that leaked. No, a larger pipe will not cause lower pressure, it will require more volume but a short repair section will have virtually no effect..

Okay. I haver a 02 plate Citroen C5I which now seems to lack power. I have no warning lights but particularly when on a hill the car basically dies and I am overtaken by midget cars.

On the downhill or falt it does build up the speed but and as soon as it hits 3000rpm it takes off (I presume the turbo kicking in)

I know nothing about cars but...

Okay, so the nise I methioned. I have just taken it tot eh Dundee dealer and he says the noise is coming from the powersteering pump. The belt on it is cracked a little (small cracks) and he is going to take it off and see if there is any play.

He also mentioned that the hydraulic pump was making noises. it soundede like a tractor for a sec when...

right nrarly got my c5 back to a1

only niggle i have is when changing gear sometime it crunches as though the clutch could do with tiny bit more movement

how easy are they to adjust??

The clutch uses the same fluid as the brakes, might even benefit from renewing that.

Does anyone know the AMP rating for the alternator for a xantia 93 1.9 TDSX?

95A? 115A?

I think one is larger than the other.

Mine has died and I'm wanting to source one from a breakers yard and want to make sure I get the right one.

i have a small problem

fyi, i changed magnetic clutch
then, i changed my alternator

bacause aux belt is due, squecking noise something (the tensioner bearing also show sign of failing)
i changed new aux belt (bando pk1700, not original teco germany)

my problem is, my new belt was eaten by the pulley (i dont know which one) on the outer side...

I was looking at a nice Xantia in a car park the other day and noticed that the back box was different to the usual turned down pipe arrangement. This one has a slash cut exit pipe similar to those fitted to the V6 twin pipe outlet but this one only had one large pipe. Is this a standard fitment or was it an aftermarket jobber? I think it had HDi...

Mike, that number on the unidentified part behind the bumper looks suspiciously like a part number. I will try and get the number confirmed as well as more detail about wire the loom goes.

That box is the airbag ECU, not sure about using the bolt as an earth but don't see why not. That's the airbag ECU trigger box, I can't see a problem with...

Only starts with easy start then runs ok for about 10 miles then engine light comes on and it loses power pulling the codes i have
p 0336 p 0500 p 0704 and p 1198 the last one i cant get a description for any help please
Also if you switch off while running and immediately try to restart it wont without easystart

I have found they do not like towing anything a little on the large size. This trailer is 500Kg and the contents were 200K at the very most. Never got out of 4th gear on the motorway. It struggled.

When should the cambelt be replaced on a C5 1.8LX. Car has 78k on the clock, I have managed to contact previous owner and he is not aware of it being done. Is it an easy job or best left to a garage? :(

Ive had a look in the Revised BoL with the HDi unit for Xantias, BUT theres NO wireing diagram for the HDi engine in it..

Was it too complicated for them??

Does anyone have a Wiring Diagram for a 110bhp Xantia Equpit car??

I have available, a pair of genuine Citroen Xantia Roof Bars, not sure if these fit the estate but do not see any reason why not but they do fit the hatchback model.

Also available, i have a set of Thule 451 Roof Bars complete with a fitting kit (Thule 193) for the Citroen ZX 3dr or 5dr??
Completely lockable with keys.

Right, my gaiter is hanging off and I don't trust the garage to do it again. The problem is getting worse and so I think I need to remove the rack and clean it before reassembling with a new gaiter.

As I see it, remove the wheels, track rod ends, disconnect all pipes, remove rack?

I know thats a generalisation but is that it? Are there any...

When changing from 1st to 2nd or from 3rd to 2nd I get a slight crunch - initially I added molyslip to try and ease the problem. However, opinion on this forum was that this was not a good idea, so I drained and refilled the box with the correct oil. This made the transmission quieter, however I still get the baulking on 2nd gear. I might add that...

Regarding yr rev counter, my '95 xantia 1.9td's rev counter playing up intermittently, by showing 0 rpm briefly, but mine not temp related. My car has a connector plug/socket located on top of the gearbox, & I suspect this may be the cause. Could be yr problem? I expect corrosion of electrical connections now my car's 13-14 years old....

I want to fit a new clutch kit to my 1998 S reg. 1.9 TD xsara but there seems to be several types, some saying pull type, which I am assuming refers to a cable operated version, also there appears to be two sizes, one is 200mm and the other one is 215mm, I think the one I need is the 215mm version but until I remove the old one I obviously can't...

but also if you inner cable is attatched to a fixed non moving bracket, and the outer is attatched to the moving fork actuater arm then it is definatly a back to front (pull) clutch,

the main trick in removing this type is remove the fork arm completely, as soon as you can get to it, and refit after you have re/engaged the fork...

Hello, Xantia NS rear door lock will not open, plipper and key, operates all doors exept NSR. Inner door handle works fine, moving all of the control rods. Door panel removed (that is a frustating job when you cannot get door open) all rods connected. Any ideas how i can get door open? It is an MOT failure not to be able to open door from outside...

Got a long metal rule down into the door down the side of the window (window open) and then tapped the lock while locking and unlocking with the pliper. Have no idea how these EV's are made up. Suspect they may have inherited some design from the earlier hydractive valves driven by a coil.

I just wondered if anyone could recommend one of the nationals that can properly balance Xantia Alloys? I tried three diffreent places with my last Xantia - and none of them could balance the wheels properly given they don't have a through fixing for attaching to the...

Your fitters probably pumped the tyres to the minimum advised pressure for your car. This will give an impression of riding more softly.

Go easy on the corners until your new tyres are broken in! A few hundred miles of mixed driving should ensure they are at full grip.

I recently changed a Headlamp bulb on my C4 Grand Picasso. Now oneside is slightly lower than the other. Checked to make sure new and old bulbs are seating correctly.

Although these are motorised for height adjustment.

Can they be adjusted manually to correct the error.

Has anyone replaced there Xantia saloon rear disc & caliper with ones from an estate? Do they fit? (They have alot bigger disc, pad & piston.)

(A site I found, not used them but has very useful info.)

That's an interesting idea. V6 is about 50kg heavier than TCT on the front, and estate is 45kg heavier on the rear, so it should not upset the brake balance of a TCT.

On a V6 the estate rear brakes might upset the balance, but I wonder if it would really make a difference. After all, the rear brakes take their pressure from the rear suspension,...

I don know excatly how they fail but its just a very fine coil of wire. It causes intermittant or permanant non start with the key light flashing, engine still cranks ok. The part is quite cheap & doesent need programing, just plugs straight in.

I know it’s not a Citroen but the in-laws Peugeot partner combi 2.0HDI 90bhp lost power on the way back from Blackpool last night then started pouring out black smoke. Thankfully they stopped almost instantly and called the AA who relayed them home but said it was probably a Valve and the car was only running on 3 cylinders.

Ok cars been sorted apparently one of the rocker arms had snapped so the valve was fine, also timing was out but not sure if that is what caused the arm to break or the other way around.

Either way all fixed and running good as new for £183 so it could have been far worse

The tailgate on my Xantia estate is slightly out of alignment and rubs agains the body. It needs to be moved about 1mm to the nearside.

Where are the adjustment points?
