HELP!!! XANTIA MK2 BLOWER DEAD, BRRRRRRRR

Post by tylerbode »

Citroen Xantia 2.0 HTDi, W Reg 2000

Blower and Heater stopped dead but Heated Rear Windscreen working ok.

No Power from big Red and Black wires going into Blower Unit under glove compartment. The Red and Black wire touched at some point by accident.

Blower Unit works in other Xantia.

Checked Fuse 21 and was blown, replaced it but still no power.

Also replaced Green Relay above Accelerator pedal

Can anybody help me please.

Thanks in advance

Tyler

PS. I've read all the posts on this subject but without solution.

Sorry to ask a stupid question, but has the new fuse also blown ? , if so you must have a short someplace- if not, it must be an earth problem.

Pull the relay again and check that you've got 12V on the power feed. Then check what voltage you have got on the switching feed with the igniton on - you may well find this is well below 12V and hence the relay is not switching. This seems to be somewhat of a common occurance on the MK2 - running in a new switching feed cures it. You can test by making up a short piece of wire and bridging the terminals in the relay socket. Don't forget when testing that the fan will only run when the engine is!

Did it spark when the wires touched ?
Does the relay click when the key is turned to ignition ?

Just to add:
The relay socket power feed is Pin3, this should be live at all times.
The switching feed is Pin1 (fed by F12), this should only be live with ignition on.
Pin2 should be earth
and Pin5 should have continuity to F21.

Alternatively, a quick test that the relay is working and getting the correct feeds; test the F21 socket terminals (fuse out) for a 12V feed with the ignition on.

Hi Richard. What and where is the switching feed?

They didn't spark when touched. The Relay doesn't click.

I experienced this problem around 12 months ago....

Took me AGES to get to the bottom of it...

Here's the thread I started:

http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... highlight=

Turned out I had two broken wires in the dashboard.

Do you have access to a multi meter?

If so, check the following as this is what I did (from memory!)

Check for continuity between Fuse 21 in the fusebox above the drivers right knee and one of the wires going into the socket for the air con switch (I can't remember which one).

On our Xantia there wasn't anything there so we scotch locked a new wire in running from the fusebox to the switch,

On the other pin on the A/C switch check for continuity between this and one of the thin wires on the motor. Again, we had nothing here so we had to scotch lock in another wire running down there.

As you'll see from the dates in that thread it took us 4 months on and off to get to the bottom of it.

Thanks for you're help there mate. How do I get to these wires? Also forgot to mention that my Air/Con light doesn't come on.
