Xantia Hdi 1999 total lighting failure

Post by nobbi1977 »

I have just been given a Xantia HDI 90 1999 with 96k on the clock by my Dad who owned it from 6 months old.

I was driving along at 7 in the morning and when I went to dipped the lights everything disappeared.

The indicators and brake lights work but nothing else.

I have stripped and inspected all the electrics I can get to and can’t find a fault. The plugs all test as 12v or ground so I suspect the switch is U/S.

Is this a common problem with S2 Xantias? I don’t want to spend £40 on a switch to find that is not the problem.

Are there any tame dealers / breakers on here that can do a better deal than Ebay?

It certainly points to the switch so your diagnosis sounds right.

Just one thing to watch with the replacement switch is it's compatibility with
your car as there have been various permutations most significantly with the
estate models with the rear wiper being controlled differently to the saloon.
If the image on the auction matches you could very well be fine though.

I have matched the part number from the switch here

http://www.autocarspare.com/catalog/col ... 25375.html

so I hope it is correct. Looks the same with the horn on the wheel not the stalk

Switch was not the problem

I got an autoelectrician in the end. He bypassed a bit of faulty loom and its all good again.

Just need to finish sorting thr brakes now
