Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

My boot will not open , was intermitttent now almost permanent.
I reset the BSI and it worked for a while.
Tested the switch and motor driven lock, both function fine.
I have also repaired the tailgate window and this now works.
see onclick= window.open(this.href);return false;

This fix involves putting a power line on the rear window switch....

Hi everyone,

Can you help with this one? C5 estate will not lock now and tailgate will not open at all.

Got into rear of vehicle and clicked the little aperture and got in .

Was initially locking and opening normally, used internal dash lock button then went haywire.

Then was opening normally except for tailgate.

Now cannot lock doors...

Hi,

While investigating an intermittent lack of power on my C5 (2.0HDi, 57 reg) I noticed bubbles in the clear fuel pipe between the fuel filter and the pump.

Firstly, could someone confirm that this definitely isn't normal (I can't think why it would be but I'd hate to waste time chasing a non-existent fault).

On Mk 11 xantia V6. The sphere assembly to the nearside of main radiator, inside front valance. There is a large brass hex nut that is leaking on that assembly.
There will be an O ring in there? Anyone have a P/N. I have some seals for H/P but this looks bigger..........maybe a sphere seal?

Hi - the old Synergie 1.9td has over the past few weeks started to chuck out grey smoke and is rough on idle when starting from cold. This only lasts for a few seconds then runs fine after that. Is it possible to change the centre hub flange on a ZX 1.9D without damaging the front wheel bearing? By hub flange, I mean the round bit in the middle that the brake disc and roadwheel bolts to. I've heard people say that one half of the inner bearing race remains on here, and you should pull it off with a bearing puller. Do they mean a standard...

hello everyone i have just become the owner of a 95 xantia vsx td, and as allways im a new member after help.
the car had a leak from the pump, it was leakin from the 19mm headed houseing for the threaded type fitting nearest the pully, so i removed it put a new seal on and put it back together, new fluid but now i canot get the system to...

My brother has a relay van an it sound very knockey on idle until you rev it, Is this normal, i have read other places that a software update may be needed.

Also i belive it is the tdci engine from ford, How reliable and what type of mileage can you expect out of them?

Not really, the new transits with that engine eat EGR valves, ford have tried lots of things, modified valves, adding water cooling to the valves, software updates but they still seem to suffer from EGR...

New one to me.

My feed hose is leaking where the flex crimps to the hardline just under my pressure regulator.

Without pulling it down, can anyone suggest if the hardline is likely failed, or just the crimped collar end of the flex hose?

$150 (£97) later ( :shock: ), I have new flex line with a toughened outer weave. Hose bloke bumped the pump end fitting on the ground and marred its bubble - I polished this up with P800 and rinsed clean with solvent.

Upon inspection the old flex was both heavily abraded and cracked.

Of course being who I am, the wheel well had to be cleaned...

Been talking to the Old Man tonight and he mentioned that he has an intermittant fault with the rear wiper, basically the rear wiper works of it's own accord and for no apperent reason, he can open the car and the wiper will work........ he can switch on the hadlights and the wiper will work....... he can open a window and the wiper will...

Hi there, new member here. I've just recently bought a Xantia HDi Exclusive estate, and been fairly impressed so far (coming from a 5 series BMW). The only problem I have found is above 70 mph there seems to be a constant vibration. Below 70mph it's very smooth. I thought it might be that the wheels needed balancing but the vibration is not coming...

Being pressurised by the raising costs of living I'm moving across to WVO.

1996 Xantia 1.9 TD Estate, Bosch injector pump.

Regarding a second tank set-up, any one know where's the easiest place to tap into the coolant lines and simplest way to do this?

I'm planning on making a separate heated fuel tank, possibly out of one...

The veg and coolant lines are running all the way to the bulk head inside the car.

I'm still able to leave the car switched on straight veg when I get to work and start ok at the end of an 8 hour day without purging. Veg tank after day shift sits around 45oC.

Picked car up today from its MOT and one of the advisory's was that the aux belt had tensioning issues, and the head garage owner said that the belt was flapping up and down a bit. It had a brand new belt and tensioner about 8 months ago and according to the garage the tensioner is fine and the belt is in good condition. The garage said...

On an 02 2.0 hdi c5.....It's sluggish under 3grand and thought i'd.disconnect it to see what happened, I disconnected the battery for a hr or 2 to see if it reset it but did bugger all. Dont tell me i need to go to dick turpin to get it done

Chances are it needs a new MAF.
EML should reset after you have run it a while - it can take five runs before it does though.
If the MAF is shot, it won't reset - or not permanently anyway.
Check for leaking vacuum pipes and leaks in the intercooler/hoses.

Best of all, find a member local to you and negotiate a Lexia diagnostic on it, by far the...

Hi,

After carelessy managing to snap off the filler flap on my car (MkII estate) a while ago :( , I have now acquired a secondhand matching replacement.

Does anyone know if it is possible to remove/replace the flap from the outside (and if so how the plastic shield around the filler neck is removed) or do you have to go in from the wheel arch...

Re C5 2.2Hdi 2002, underpowered and will not rev past 3500 revs and going through a lot of diesel.

FAP cleaned out.
Eolys topped up and reset.

Lexia says Air flow fault and air temp flow fault.

Tried a new MAF sensor - still the same. Possibility one of the vacuum pipes is on wrong?...

I was examining engine last night when I saw a small pool of diesel at one of the injectors.

This seems to be a leak under high pressure.

Could this be the cause of the problem?

Ran Rattiva II down to Somerset this morning. Started off with a full tank. Didn't hang around much. Did a load of running around in Somerset and topped up again.

54 to the gallon :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D Wow.. and on an HDi at just and just under 200K....

Now I've fully fixed the boost leak she goes like a good 'un....

Hi, I'm not and never have been a mechanic but I must have rebuilt a dozen motorcyle engines over the years so not completely useless. Have a decent set of tools and a brother in law who was a toyota mechanic who I can call on if I get too stuck. With regards to the head I was going to see what it looked like first, signs of corrosion etc.

Hi all,

Have been sorting my Xantia over the last few weeks. New Cam belt, tensioner, water pump, crank shaft pulley and aux belt. Then on Sun we replaced the front pads.

The car is going well and all seems fine except it has been bouncing (on bad roads) on the front. I have looked through the history it has and the rear spheres were replaced...

^ Thanks for the advice, the car is sitting far too high on that normal setting so I shall check the height settings then, I will have to get down my mates yard with his 4 post ramp and have a look, so this sounds like its more of the height problem rather than the spheres and to be honest, the two front spheres look brand new from the outside.

Hey, so here is the HP pump on the Xantia (picture shown at bottom of post).

There is a leak from between the bottom nut and the pump.

I've got the O-ring.

I know to watch out for a spring and ball bearing when removing the bottom nut.

I was just wondering about the LHM fluid.

I presume I lower the car down to it's lowest setting to...

i find if you clamp the main suction feed rubber pipe going to the pump you loose less citro blood (LHM),

also try not to disturb the spring and plundger under that pipe union,

I've noticed over the last couple of days a noise coming from the offide front engine area (sounds like a blowing exhaust) but the noise is only there on tickover. Research indicates that it is likely to be the crankshaft pulley - car has done 115K. Question is can I continue to drive until I get it replaced during the week and should I replace...

It can also be the upper spring tensioner getting weak... A crank pully will be noisy at all engine speeds were as the tensioner is only noisy at idle... Have a look down from the top with the engine running and just behind below the PAS pump you will see the top tensioner... See is its bouncing like a rubber ball...

Now that the nights are pulling in its really starting to bug me how bad the headlights are on the Xantia. My C5s headlights are superb, not in the slight patchy and very powerful. Driving the Xantia after being used to the C5 is like driving with some glow worms attatched to the front bumper.

To get some idea of the amount of voltage being lost due to duff wiring, with the headlights turned on measure the voltage at the back of the bulb and compare with the battery voltage, if the difference there is any more than 1/2 volt the relay mod is the best course of action, fitting new bulbs isn't really going to help that much as they won't...

Hey guys

Only 2 weeks ago I replaced my nearside sidelight bulb and everything was hunky dory. As I've not been out much in the dark I've barely used the lights but yesterday I had a look at the nearside bulb when it was on and it seems to be burning out - it's dull and the bulb is a bit black.

Are problems like this common? What should I do to...

As I said above, it seems a problem with C5IIs as the bulbs are different. C5Is use normal sidelight bulbs and they don't get through them any quicker than other cars. If you touch a blub with your finger and leave grease on the outside it does shorten the life of the bulb.

Anyone had success with fitting (Citroen, correct part #) front mud-flaps to a mk.1 C5?
Been trying, and cannot see how they'd do anything to stop water / grit still forcing its way back along under the plastic sill-covers anyway.
Given up for today, with the passenger side one looking a poor and not fully secured fit ... maybe better luck with...

They are a bit of a pain to fit arn't they!

Its much easier if you get someone to give you a hand. Get someone to hold the mudflaps tightly against the sill while you put in the screws.

If you set them in the correct place (top of the mudflaps should sit just below the swage line on the sill trim), get a bradawl and pierce in some holes. Then...

hi guys 8-) well i finialy got round to getting the leaking fuel pump fixed but while the pump was in the shop the fitter asked me if i had been into the pump as according to him all the settings had been messed about with and wernt set to factory settings so therefore i was charged more to set it up and pressure test it............ while he was...

..... unoficially... :)

By this I mean, any ideas how to remove locking bolts when the Bolt Key is not present???

Ive tried the Belt a socket over the bolt and try tactik, but that hassnt worked..

Will I have to make something to fit in the holes... Judging by the 3 other bolts they arent excessivly tight..

Ideas???

Hi All,

Does any one know if the bottom arm P Bush is available on its own to fit an arm??? Flea bay only seem to list the arm complete for £100 Plus EACH SIDE! :shock:

I need to do both on a car thats come in part exchange...

The Next Q is, are they heated on, or do they just push on??

i have looked at several MK1 and 2 Xants on service citroen
and the only one out of the modles i checked that shows the P bush on its own are the 90 and 110 HDI's, also it doesnt show any HDI's under MK1at all, but only MK2's,

and they both use the same bush but are handed

A friend has given me a Manual Boost Controller that was used with his Cossie in MK 2 Escort.

He reckons it's a waste of time as after 3500 rev it cause's power to drop, he tried it on his works Dyno.

Any how a few mentions about these on Activas this Forum I thought no harm giving it a go :)

Any one out there post a pic or give me some advice...

The best tip I can offer for the elbow is to do as Chris and I did to separate his. Work at it from both ends using two people. split the old matrix at the inner flange joint and with one holding the elbow in the engine bay the other one...

Hi Guys, have a bit of a problem with my C5 climate control. intermitantly (but getting worse) the passenger side blows hot air constant, temp set at 16 but still hot. When the car has been standing for a while, it will reset and work sort of fine (still warmer than the driver side).

Hey guys

I'm leaking screen wash, can only see it when it drips from the bottom of the bumper, beside the offside wheel.
I'm gonna have a look at the screen wash bottle and see if it has a crack in it or anything.
Where is it located? There's a ton of plastic on the underside so I can't see anything really.

Oooh, i'd like to know this one as well, my bottle only holds 2 of the 4 litres without leaking!
I reckon that if the car has headlamp washers it'll the seal around headlamp pump on the bottle as it's located halfway up the reservoir to avoid draining the tank so much that the screen wash doesn't work.

No headlamp washers, standard halogen...

Had a guy out yesterday to to a remap but he couldnt get power from it to his box or tricks or laptop, he checked the fuses under the socket but all were fine, I checked them under the bonnet and were also fine. Would someone for some reason have disconnected it (socket) because something was faulty and bypassed it.

Can't answer this for a C5 but i had the same problem on a MKII Laguna and it turned out there was a fuse underneath the gear lever gaitor hidden in the depths that had the lights, climate and OBD port on that circuit. Replaced the fuse and everything worked again. Have you checked the reverse side of the OBD port to see if any wiring has been...

The ELM327 readers on eBay are compatible with all petrol cars from 2001 upwards, my car included and they can do things like read stored fault codes, reset the service/management light, display sensor data, live logging etc. Only £14 mine cost! Then I used it with my laptop and some free OBD II software :)

As the subject line, I've broke one of the hardened inserts off me moles.

Shot out and bought the nearest I could see to try to get the job away, but the jaws are as soft as a soft thing by comparison.
They don't grip, and the serrations burr off so theres no chance really.
Anyone know where one can buy the genuine thing with hard as bullets...

Dear Bereft Kevin, do not take it too much to heart with the demise of the insert on your molies.

Have you considered the timely repair to most damaged tools - welding? Why not clean up all the plating around the offending parts and either mig or gas weld them back together? They may not be as good as when new, but we all get a bit decrepit as...

I am in tumoil.

I have seen a 55 plate C5 Design which i posted about last week.
Went to see it and straight away the Mrs dont like the interior as it's the wrong colour and too bland..Dark glasses spring to mind for her..

The car is good looking.
