Berlingo 2005 diesel pump

Post by Greer746 »

Hi guys
I have a 2005 berlingo van 1.9d that as been diagnosed that the diesel pump is faulty, had the pump removed and sent to a pump specialist and they have said its nacked, my question is can I buy another pump with the same code as mine (R8445b350b) and away I go again or do I need to get the pump coded to my ecu? Will any pump work on this van? Any help would be much appreciated
Regards

Another pump should work however the module will need coding, on these its part of the stop solenoid I think (its a funny tube with electronics in rather than a module inside the cover)

Suitable donors apart from Berlingo's are Partner and 206's. Note it was only fitted to the 206 up till about 2000. Some T plate 306's have this unit as well but not that many.

There are two types of DW8 pump fitted, early models are mechanical advance with no ECU for their control (only up to about V plate if that) and later ones are electronic control.

Personally, I'd attempt to obtain an earlier pump (you *must* have the high pressure pipes to go with the earlier pump if doing this as their 'sequence' is different) as its less hassle but you'd need to de-armour it.

You'd need either pump to be coded to the ECU or you could remove the armour and have a conventional solenoid fitted which would give no immobiliser.

Depending on what is actually wrong with your pump (please reply and say what they said was wrong with it if you know) before going further. The module could be swapped to the 'replacement' pump which would mean no coding needed.

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply regarding my problem, I actually sent a friend there with my pump as he had time to take it for me so unable to say exactly what's wrong with it just come back with a faulty label on it.
So if I was to get another pump ie early or late does the code on my pump need to match?
How do I de-armour a earlier pump?? Should like this is there easiest option.
Thanks again for your reply!!

There are several ways of sorting this.

A pump from a similar year may well pop on and just be coded in, although you could swap the module from your old pump and then you'd in theory not need it coding as the 'code' is in the module on the pump side (well part of it is but that's irrelevant) , the "problem" I have here is I'm not 100% if you can re-code a 'used' module from one vehicle to another. A new one can be initialised but I've never tried to re-use one, I've binned them previously and done away with the immobiliser.

The armour removal is not too straightforward as it involves slicing through some armour casing on the pump and (without swarf ingress or damage) replacing the module and / or replacing it with conventional solenoid. The slight problem here is a standard one does not always have the correct 'reach' although some members have found suitable ones after a search, I'd have to check as there seems a few types.

Please wait a bit for others to add their input if they wanted to.
