Xsara Picasso 2.0 hdi, 2002 90bhp crank bolt enquiry

Post by avamotor »

Hello FCF,

I have recently been fortunate/unfortunate to be a passenger in the Picasso that belongs to "er indoors" and noted the ticking noise from what i suspect is the crank pulley.

I asked how long it has been like this and the reply was "oh it been rattling for a good time now but i just turn the radio up!" #-o

Have been out and purchased timing belt kit, drivebelt kit, crank pulley(doesnt appear to be a new bolt with it either) and water pump too.

I have replaced belts on XUD's and my 1.4 HDI but is it necessary to replace the pulley bolt too? if so does someone have access to a Citroen Service Box and would they please be kind enough to gave me the part number for the crank pulley bolt please.

39356937 are the last few digits of the vin number. [-o<

Thank you Garry

From what I can gather doing speculative research it should be a DM pulley.
It seems (in the early years, late xant - early c5/picasso), cars without a DMF were given the DM crank pulley (90bhp included), whilst those with a DMF use a single mass crank pulley.

I know my hdi engine requires a replacement crank bolt on reassembly, so for piece of mind you might as well change it whilst you have it apart.

Ive never changed a crank bolt on any HDi Ive done belts on...

but MAKE SURE while the locking pin is in the TDC hole behind the starter, of which I use a GOOD strong allen key, Tighten up the crank bolt with the fly wheel locked and use locktite on the thread!!! They WILL and DO rattle loose on the XUD and these, and you dont want that either!

I ALWAYS locktite the bolt, and tighten it with an allen key in the locked hole, with an extension bar ...
