Spare wheel - is it supposed to be secured?

Post by evoke »

Does anyone know if the spare wheel in the boot in a Citroen C5 MKIII is supposed to be secured in any way? Mine is unsecured with the tool kit in the centre. On other cars i've had the spare wheel had a long bolt through the centre, securing it to the floor of the boot.

The spare is secured by a strap across it. No threaded retainer. My wheel is very tight in the wheel well. Not sure if it is because it is a 19 inch wheel or not. I tend to fill any space round the wheel with rags, high via vests etc, once it is strapped in. Makes for good fit, and stops any rattles.

^ Thanks. I'll check the wheel well properly later today. I haven't had a good look since I got the car in February but I know there was no strap across it.

Found the straps! They were underneath the spare wheel. Also pumped up the spare wheel as it was at 24PSI.

I'd keep a close eye on that spare: it might have been unsecured because it had recently been swapped or repaired when you bought the car. Now it might have a slow puncture in it.

^ Good advice. Will do. I'll check the tyre pressure again after a week or so.
