Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi all,

As I posted a few weeks ago I'm after another Citroen, I current have a skoda octavia diesel that was damaged but repaired in December and I have since fallen out with it! I can't really afford a new shape C5 And I don't really need a big car as I don't have kids or a dog anymore so I'm thinking of a C4 now. Which engine would be better...

My Xantia 2,0 HDI has now 260 000 miles (418000km), and still runs like a charm. (Knock on wood..) :-D
Burns NO oil. After 6000 miles since the last oil change, the oil is still brown.

I have blinds in my rear windscreen so my downward pointing exhaust may have meant I missed all the action.

Thinking of getting a caravan, but not sure how large a one the C8 (2ltr hdi) can handle. I know the weight limits for it, but as i'm new to the whole caravan idea, i dont really know how those weights translate to the real world.

I've recently purchased a C5 V6 exclusive, here in Australia with an RPO number of 8891.
From the literature I have, it would seem to be an early RHD number.
The workshop manuals I have all refer to RPOs after 8631?, which I'm assuming are the ealriest of the C5s.

Are there any fellow train spotters out there who are able to confirm or...

I was getting the car ready this evening to take the aux belt tensioners out for examination and took the ECU out for easier access. Being nosey as I am I unclipped the large connector on top intent on having a nose at it.

Lo and behold, several contacts have corroded and it looks like a couple others having been doing a bit of sparking :o :o...

I always assemble all my connectors with a liberal application of Wax Oyl and apply liberally around the assembled connector, pretty well guaranteed to keep moisture out and keeps rubber boots etc. supple for not a lot of cost.

i saw someone setting of to tow a BX years ago with no drive shafts fitted, Laural and Harddy came to mind as they turned the first corner both wheel bearings collapsed, what a fine mess :twisted: :shock: :roll: ,

these bearings are only held together by the CV joint being in place...

I know from experience that looking to identify a particular component from the Haynes' BOL is next to impossible, and so it is true again this time...

I have been told that the 'LHM pump' is leaking on the Xantia, but am clueless to even know where to start to find it - and to assess if it is something I might replace/repair myself.

Looking at (possibly) adding another oddball into the fleet - A Citroen C3 Pluriel.

The one issue this car has is a non-functioning drivers window. Now if this was a Renault, I'd actually be more surprised if the window worked , but broken electric windows aren't really something I ever associated with Citroens. There's no regulator...

Hi all.

I've got a perfect condition non hydractive strut top in my garage, and I'm not convinced the strut tops I have bought are 100% as the car makes a strange vibrating noise that can be felt throughout the car, and the steering wheel, and almost anything front suspension related. I can film the noise later on today as it does it all the time...

Wifes car c8 20l hdi 07plate 66k,

Don't even think about wasing £70 on a steel OE - you won't be able to fit it in any case! Note, you probably can't buy one from the factors, as it needs a Citroen flare on the end, not a std one, and most won't have the tools to do it.

Hi,

My otherwise healthy 98 Xantia 19.td failed its MOT, mostly on issues to do with corroded or leaking suspension pipes. I'm wondering how easy this lot might be to fix or if anyone can point me to a link?

The MOT wording states
Nearside lower (under front of engine bay ) fluid suspension unit leaking
Nearside rear fluid suspension unit...

Can anyone help? The pipe leading to the edge of the bonnet has snapped so I cannot attach a new one. Worse the other end has disappeared and I cannot see how to trace it forward from the washer bottle at all. Everything seems to be hidden. If the looms and plugs are there under the seats and there's two yellow plugs under the console oddment tray for the heater rheostats then you have all you need to fire up the seats...

Yes, you could use V6 struts on any Hydractive Xantia although you may find them a bit stiff unless you have an ES9J4 and HP20 under the bonnet...

I have at last sort of got my Lexia going, thanks to a member sending me a disc that works, the Citroen C5 side seems to be OK but the Peugeot side seems to be fussy about what car you have, it comes up with 'connect' on some cars but unfortunately not on the 406 , it says I need a download but will not give it to me because it says my customer...

hi there hoping someone can point me in right direction with my 03 xsara.

The (factory fit) imobiliser does not inhibit the fuel pump so i would rule an imobiliser issue out, you would generally get a warning on the dash to say the key is not recognised.
If you are getting no spark & no fuel pump operation I'd be directing my attention 1st to the double relay which controls the power going to the coil & the fuel pump....

Hi -

Recently I purchased 4ea brake hoses for my present runner BX with ABS.
I got them from a UK Ebay seller advertising them as brake hoses for BX with ABS.

Did'nt bother to check the Motaquip part no, to be sure it was the ABS variant type of hose up for sale.
Which I should have done of course #-o
The hoses are Motaquip VBH832 - no longer...

A problem i have noticed on my car is that the rear pads are only using about 1/2 the disk , anyone know what s wrong ?? I am going to replace the discs and pads anything else i will need to do ???

We've all come up against that problem at some point.
Copaslip works well and is what I use, copaslip though not copper grease which doesn't halt the galvanic corrosion. Some people favour a paper gasket which has many reports of success.
Swapping the sides is a good solution if you can, it was reported some time ago that a member here found that...

Hi All Whilst setting of to drive this morning to the local tesco get my paper and bottle of milk i noticed a weird warning on my dash it flashed for a while then went off its a weird looking warning light sort of like a walking stick with 2 little lines on it. Top row far right.

Never had a problem with any of mine and I only use fully synthetic oil, must be a duff sensor in your smoker Jim.

That would not surprise me Richard :lol: After nearly 204K I can live with it (for now... :roll: )

One more thing sorry. What is the best oil for these engines?

Hi,

I started a conversation a coupe of weeks ago about running my xantia on veg oil. It was extremely helpful but i've got a another question which relates to my cars current mpg, which I need to solve before running the engine on either veg oil or diesel.

Using a rough mpg calculation it looks like the car is doing about 27mpg, which is...

.... Have a look at the turbo outlet pipework to see if it's showing signs of oil.
It's sure too because the engine breather will blow a certain amount of oil mist into the turbo inlet (this is a TD). If you have noticeable oil consumption and you're worried about the turbo, I'd suggest several checks on how much oil is collecting in the bottom...

Disconnect the MAF sensor plug and see if it goes any better.

The MAF can certainly cause this and it's understandable that the garages cannot diagnose it as the MAF sensor does not generally pop up a nice, easy fool-proof fault code. The only way to see a duff MAF is to use a pukka Lexia diagnostic and observe the live data from it. A duff one...

well lads
yet another problem the brake control valve has sprung a leak
so major that all LHM fluid has leaked out
how hard is it to change or is it likely that there is another problem.

sorted it today a better look with bore scope it turned out to be the top pipe fitted a new piece of pipe and pushed the plastic pipe in it. awkward to get clip off wasn't able to get a new clip on but have been driving a bit and seems to be holding

esp and depollution faults come up,have to stop switch off and on ignition and its ok it randomly have had it on diagnostic an it comes up with fuel pump relay switch,anyone had same problem an was it fuel pump relay switch

Hi,

Just replaced my Xantia hazard switch for a new citroen one afor its MOT. Alas the switch worked perfectly but the indicators stopped working? It was the correct switch for the 98 model and reg so the Citroen dealer said.

I had to put the old one back, which was an MOT fail because when pressed sometimes it only activates the right hand...

My air bag light is flashing, and Lexia tells me it's 152C - Seatbelt trigger 2 open circuit.

Anybody got any useful thoughts - eg is it driver or passenger side, and which bit to dig around in?

2001 Xantia HDi.

A month or so later, I finally got round to looking at this. Nothing obvious, so I played with the connectors a bit and it's no longer complaining. Rather less of a disco light effect on the dashboard :-)

Hi, your absolutely right i'd forgotton that we had mostly used a punch to chip away at the bolt and tap stump and a then a rotary carbide file (several) mounted on a drill to very slowly burr a hole through the tap and then break it down, taking care not to loose the thread.

1995 ZX 1.9D non-turbo

Looking at the gasket and wondering why it failed, I've just noticed this. There is a lip on the edge of the fire ring where it seems to have folded over into the thin coolant channel on top of the block. None of the other rings are like this, nor is the replacement gasket.

Any thoughts anyone...?

The main causes of gasket failures on an XUD are overheating or gasket corrosion.

Overheating, apart from the obvious failed fans can be caused by coolant change neglect too, this then starts to restrict / clog up small passages. The return pipe (with the bleed in it on the thermostat housing, worse on ones with a brass bleed screw and a stub)...

Happens when going to pull off sort of a second delay before anything happens. The accelerator cable seems to have no slack, fully serviced, egr3 cleaner used only use shell fuel.

Car is all standard and elloys fluid and filter all seem fine.

I am still having problems with the fuel system on the Xantia TD.

So far I have replaced the leak off pipes, the fuel pipe to filter connection clip and the 8mm fuel line from the filter top to the diesel pump. It was fine but this morning it almost cut out again and was really not willing to go. It never actually died though and nearing the...

Yay! Well, mine now runs very well but takes serious cranking to get going from rest.

I think that would suggest that your glow plugs are dead or the glowplug relay is not doing its job.

It's quite strange because I am not sure it would even run that smooth if the GP or relay was not working as after the initial heating of the combustion...

Front D-bushes are secured by the bolts on your wishbone P-bushes.

Took my recently acquired 2.2 C5 for its first longish run today to Bristol and back about 160 miles, fuel consumption on the motorway at a fairly steady 60 mph was 49.6 mpg as against the 406 2.0 Hdi on the same journey doing 60.1mpg. Normally a bigger engine driven under the same load will give a better consumption, what is it about these 2.2s?...

the unit thats attached to the sphere on the front of the car.

according to haynes manual its the hydraluic regulator but according to citroen dealer its the anti sink valve

any way its leaking and getting worse so can anyone tell me if there is a seal kit for or can you get seals to fit.

Hi all..

Does anyone know the M size of the 1.9 XUD Crack pully bolt???? Someone has had one snap on them in the crank shaft on a 405!! Ive advised they drill the remains out and re tap it... So need to get the correct tap..

I own a citroen xantia 1.9 TD (1994) Hydractive. I have owned it only for the last 2 years, so i have never seen the hydractive system properly working since the spheres were almost gone when i got the car.

I live in portugal and here it is very difficult to find gassers for spheres or even buy new spheres. And my good old xantia rides really...

Bear in mind that these sphere's are standard specification for a non Hydractive Xantia using a 1.8 engine and as stated earlier in the thread using standard TD/2.0 sphere's with a 1.5 damper will apparently give a firmer ride than a non Hydractive Xantia so I can't help thinking that 1.65 damper hole sphere's will suit your purpose perfectly....

Today it has started to rais suddenly at the rear quite violently while moving at speed. Did not think Citroëns rusted like that.

Most common place for a Xantia to rust is on the lower rear wheel arch, especially in the rear door shut sill area.

Ive seen much worse than that, its usually on very late estates too. I saw a late Exclsuive estate recently which was much more rotten, both in that area but also higher up on the rear...

i think the rh top engine mount is gone i am not sure. its 99' Xantia 1.9TD with 190K miles

there seem to be a lot of play between the rubber and car body. there is a vibration in the car.
I've done all bushes, balljoints Track rod ends and drop link arms. 6 new spheres done the tracking and balanced the wheel and t vibration is still there....
