C5 Headlights Randomly switching on & off?

Hello,

Its probably been asked many times before, for which I apologise in advance.

But my c5 2001 hdi estate has a re occurring problem.
Even when the light switch on the stalk is off, the lights will come on for random periods. I'm not too bothered, but the other day they came on as I was approaching a junction, and someone mistakenly thought id flashed them to exit. Close call!!

Any idea why, this is happening and how it can be remedied?

I'm inclined to think that the fault lies in the comm2000 unit.

My 2002 estate had similar symptoms - the autolights became increasingly erratic and the headlights would do as yours, mainly when turning right.
I was pulled by the police one day. I had been following a police car for a couple of miles when he put his flashing lights on and pulled in behind me when I stopped and asked what I wanted - he thought that I had been flashing him to get his attention.

Never did anything about it as the car was damaged shortly afterwards and replaced - it is still running around but I have no idea if the problem was ever addressed.

My auto lights do work but they are not consistent, sometimes they come on when its not very dark and don't when it is but mostly they work OK.

Fault wont be in the COM200 unit, i'll put money on the headlight stalk....

Try pulling the end of the stalk out gently or tweeking it without clicking it into different positions

Just wear and tear i think as they get older

By pulling the end out do you mean the whole stalk or the bit at the end. What do I do when I've pulled it out?

Is there a way of setting the light level at which they activate?
